I Just Wanted A Soft Life, Not A Demon Husband
Chapter 364: The Demon King's Unwanted Feelings
Chapter 364: The Demon King Had a Problem
“Watch her.”
Zorathys spoke without looking away from Elyn.
Dracolthar and Ignivar had been with him for the past few days, taking turns watching over her while he remained by her side.
It had been over two weeks since he had found her on the floor of that demons bedroom.
Two weeks.
Two weeks since everything had gone wrong.
And it was only now that she was finally able to take his energy without her body fighting against it.
Which meant there was only one place he needed to go.
Back to where it had all started.
The main culprit behind all of this.
Azerion.
Zorathys’s expression darkened.
When he let the demon bond with Elyn he did not do it so the demon would drain her of the little mana she had. If at all the bond should have made her stronger.
“Your Majesty,” Ignivar called out cautiously. “I know you are annoyed, but…”
“Shut up.”
Zorathys’s voice was quiet.
“Or I’ll come up with ways to keep you quiet, and you wouldn’t like any of them.”
Ignivar sighed.
He apparently knew better than to continue.
Zorathys’s shadows immediately enveloped him and the next moment, he was gone.
When the darkness disappeared, he appeared inside Azerion’s bedroom.
The Syrenthis demon was sitting on his bed.
He looked terrible though ho Zorathys, Azerion hadn’t suffered anything close to what his firefly had suffered during those two weeks.
Though the demon had become a shell of himself, his usual liveliness was gone, Zorathys did not care.
Azerion looked filled with regret.
“What did you do?” Zorathys asked him calmly.
Azerion swallowed.
“I…”
“Let’s get something straight, Syrenthis.” Zorathys said. “The only reason I’m keeping you alive right now is because Firefly may become sad if she regains consciousness and finds out you are gone.”
“And because it may affect her at this point if you no longer exist. So I’ll ask again, what selfish act did you commit that would make her suffer mana depletion to that extent?”
Azerion sniffled.
“I didn’t do anything.” Azerion said then just as quickly continued.
“I just…” He sniffled. “I tried to become stronger. I wanted to appear like a man to her and not a child.”
Zorathys stared at him.
For a moment, he said nothing.
Then he nodded slowly.
“So…”
His voice remained frighteningly calm.
“You mean you were draining her powers when you were supposed to be helping her?”
Azerion’s lips parted.
“And even with that, you had the audacity to use your true form for hours?”
“I’m sorry,” Azerion said in a small voice. “I didn’t t…”
“Oh shut up. You may be a young demon but you knew what you were doing. You were just blinded by greed which though it’s admirable, you did it wrongly.” His expression darkened. “You almost killed her because of your selfishness.”
Azerion lowered his head.
“I’m sorry.”
Zorathys nodded.
He didn’t say anything else.
He didn’t need to.
His shadows suddenly surrounded Azerion whose eyes widened.
Before he could react, the shadows moved through him.
They entered through his ears, his nose, his mouth, his eyes.
Azerion made a strangled sound though
Zorathys didn’t care.
The shadows continued moving through his body, searching every part of him.
Azerion trembled beneath the invasion.
Then the shadows wrapped themselves around his heart and his body went rigid.
For one terrifying moment, there was complete silence.
Then the shadows retreated and he collapsed on the bed. He gasped, his lungs filling with air again.
“I can’t hurt you because Firefly cares about you and for some reason, she looks after you like you are her own. But do remember this.” Zorathys said.
“If even a hair on her body is hurt again, I will make sure you cease to exist.”
Azerion froze.
“And not just you.”
The shadows around Zorathys stirred.
“Your kind too.”
Azerion only nodded. He had not been extremely scared of the king before but after this…there was a reason he was king. He was scary.
Zorathys gave him a disgusted look.
Then his shadows enveloped him.
A moment later, he appeared in his own bedroom.
“Everyone get out.”
He said it so icily that neither Dracolthar nor Ignivar dared question him.
The two exchanged a look.
Then, without another word, they walked out.
Zorathys turned toward the bed where
Elyn was sleeping peacefully. He stared at her for a long moment.
She was a puzzle to him if he was being honest.
He had never felt this way about anyone else.
Not even the previous queen-to-be.
But with Elyn…he was possessive. He became angry when she suffered. He felt sad when she git annoyed at him and would do anything to make her return to her fiery self.
And he couldn’t understand why.
She wasn’t impressive at least in terms of magic like demons had.
She could only perform petty spells.
A truth serum.
Making things fly.
A few other spells.
Nothing impressive by demon standards.
And yet…he couldn’t stop looking her way whenever she was in the same place as him.
It didn’t matter what she was doing.
She could be speaking.
Eating.
Sleeping.
Complaining.
Doing something completely ridiculous which since getting to know her, she did everything.
But it didn’t matter though, his eyes would find her.
He could not stop reaching out to her just to touch her.
He could not stop trying to get her attention.
Sometimes, he caught himself doing things simply because he wanted her to look at him.
It was absurd.
He was the Demon King.
He had entire armies that waited for his commands.
Demons feared him.
Kings feared him.
Entire territories knew his name.
And yet one human woman could make him feel as though he were a man starved of attention.
It made no sense.
Worse still…
He had become jealous of children who got to have more of her attention.
Anyone who received too much of Elyn’s attention seemed to irritate him.
He didn’t understand it.
But the weirdest thing was, he didn’t hate it.
He was rather comfortable with the thoughts, if he was being honest.
And right now, more than anything, he wished for her to get better.
He wanted her to open her eyes.
He wanted her to gaze at him clearly.
He wanted her to speak.
He wanted her to complain.
He even wanted her to insult him if possible.
Anything.
He just wanted her to be herself again.
He wanted to hear her voice.
He wanted her to look at him as though he were the most irritating creature she had ever encountered.
He wanted all of it.
He simply hated seeing her like this.
He didn’t understand these feelings but he did know he hated seeing her this way.
He sighed.
Then ran a hand through his hair.
He really was going crazy.
