Chapter 180: Get Out!!
Chapter 180: Get Out!!
The battlefield started to shake once again.
At first, Raiden thought it was another attack from the Black Dragon, or perhaps one of the huge Platinum beasts behind it, getting ready to charge. But the tremor beneath his feet felt wrong.
It was not coming from ahead of them. It was coming from right beside him. More accurately, it was coming from Woolie. The little sheep had lowered his head so deeply that his horns were almost pointing at the ground, while the lightning around his body grew denser and denser until it no longer looked like ordinary electricity at all.
Violet and crimson currents wrapped around him together, devouring each other, fusing, separating, then fusing again, as if two different powers were trying to merge to create something new, something much more deadly.
Raiden felt every hair on his body stand on end.
The pulse inside Woolie’s body came again, only this time much harder than before, full of hunger and violence. For the briefest moment, Raiden’s vision blurred, and what stood before him was no longer a small woollen battle junkie, but the outline of something far bigger trying to crawl its way out from beneath that tiny frame.
The air around Woolie started to distort. The ground under his hooves split apart in thin jagged lines. The air itself started to break, as if some invisible pressure was pushing against it.
The Black Dragon noticed it too.
The monster, which had been gathering black flames in its jaws, paused as a look of caution appeared in its eyes. Its vertical pupils narrowed sharply, and the Platinum beasts behind it hesitated as well.
The horned sabertooth lowered itself instinctively. The giant mantis took half a step back. The armoured boar snorted and braced itself against the unknown feeling threat welling up in his heart.
None of them knew what they were feeling, but their bodies did. Predators recognised predators better than anyone else, and right now, the thing awakening inside Woolie was making every beast present feel deeply uncomfortable.
"Woolie??" Raiden spoke with a tight throat, his tone full of worry.
Woolie did not answer. His whole body was trembling. It looked more like he was struggling to hold something down. The wool on his body had started floating upward, charged with such violent force that small arcs of lightning were shooting off him randomly and blasting holes into the broken battlefield.
Crimson light gathered beneath his hooves, spread through the cracks in the ground, and started forming a pattern that looked nothing like any attack Raiden had seen him use before. It was not thunder or hellfire. It was something else entirely.
Then Woolie raised his head.
His eyes were no longer their usual bright, battle-hungry violet. They had turned darker, deeper red, and they were filled with a coldness that did not belong on the face of his happy partner.
"Awwoooo!!!
A howl rang out in the air that did not come from his mouth. It came from everywhere all at once.
The sound ripped across the battlefield like an invisible blade, and in that instant, every Terra Beast within hundreds of meters froze. The weaker ones collapsed outright, their legs giving out beneath them.
Some whimpered, some pressed themselves flat against the blood-soaked ground, and others started running without any care for direction, trampling their own kind as they fled.
Even farther away, soldiers and Battle Masters on the defensive line felt their hearts clench for no apparent reason as the howl washed over them.
John, who had just gotten help standing up, felt his knees nearly buckle again.
"What the hell was that..." he whispered.
Behind Woolie, a gigantic shadow began to rise.
It was not fully real, but not a full illusion either. A spectral figure of a monstrous wolf emerged behind him, so huge that even the Black Dragon looked smaller before it.
Its body was made of storm-dark mist, violet lightning, and crimson moonlight, with eyes like two bottomless abysses staring down at the battlefield below. Countless mural-like images moved within its body, as if they were reciting some kind of old and lost fable.
The moment it appeared, the atmosphere of the battlefield changed completely. The Black Dragon’s flames started to flicker as the rest of the platinum beasts stiffened.
Raiden’s breathing stopped when he felt his worst fears come alive.
That was not just bloodline feedback anymore. That was Fenrir. That fucking bastard took advantage of Woolie’s hard moment, and he was controlling his body now.
"You God Damn Mutt! Get out of Woolie’s body right now!!" Raiden charged furiously at Woolie’s body, but the wolf didn’t give him time as it moved.
The Black Dragon let out a furious roar, as though enraged by the existence of another creature daring to challenge its authority. It opened its jaws and unleashed the black flames it had been holding back.
The torrent came out wider and denser than before, sweeping toward Woolie like a river of corruption determined to erase him from existence. But this time, Woolie did not dodge, for he did not need to. The giant wolf-shadow behind him lowered its own head in the same motion as Woolie, and a wave of violent pressure burst outward from his body.
BOOM!!!
The black flames hit an invisible wall mid-charge. For a second, the battlefield became a tug-of-war between two monsters. The black fire pushed forward while the invisible pressure around Woolie crushed downward like a mountain.
The earth between them caved in first, then the shockwave exploded outward, hurling broken corpses, weapons, and even living Terra Beasts through the air.
Raiden raised an arm to shield his face and slid several meters backwards from the force alone.
Woolie’s hooves sank deeper into the ground as blood started dripping from his nose.
Seeing this, Raiden’s expression changed instantly.
That was the price. Whatever this awakening was, Woolie was forcing it out far too early, and his body was clearly not ready to contain it. The giant wolf-shadow behind him remained towering and majestic, but the actual Woolie underneath looked much smaller and much more fragile by comparison. His legs were shaking. The lightning around him was becoming unstable. The black flames had indeed been stopped, but only barely.
"You bastard!! Stop harming my partner, get OUT!!!"
