Chapter 16 - Untouchable Scholar
After having a manual battle with all the available opponents from the system, Angus found that the opponent's strength is based on what he knows and perceives. The stronger the opponent also yields more soul points.
The strongest opponent he could face is Princess Jayna, which gives him 0,000024 soul points for every 1,5 seconds. It means he will get around 1,3 points every day.
He also tests to fight with other students, but none of them could fight back even a second if Angus got serious from the start. All of this is because he always approaches the opponent fast before killing them with one punch.
Besides that, he also found another function from the opponent selection. It is called multiple battles. From its description, he could fight multiple opponents at once and get higher rewards of soul points.
The reward is quite huge, around 2-3 points if he decides to fight all the first-year students that are available at once. Unfortunately, he couldn't set the automatic battle with multiple opponents. Otherwise, he could harvest more points using this way.
Another huge discovery is that he could get an item from the humanoid opponent. He speculates that the drop chance of getting an item is very low.
He only gets the item by fighting the same opponents more than a hundred times. After that, he didn't get any kind of item anymore.
The item is a spellbook and stored in the inventory function that just opened. After doing various tests with the inventory, Angus found that only items generated by the system could be stored there. Besides that, no other things could be stored inside the inventory function.
The spellbook itself is called [1st Circle - Aqua Ball], which drops from the humanoid opponent Wylda. As soon as he touched the book, he got a question panel.
"Do you want to learn the [1st Circle - Aqua Ball] spell by Wylda? Yes or No."
After contemplating a little bit, Angus chose yes. At that moment, Angus gets a lot of basic information about Aqua Ball spells. He could even cast water ball spells as good as Wylda the moment he learns it.
Moreover, since his mind power is higher than Wylda, he could construct and modify the magic circle faster than her. Still, Angus didn't have water elemental affinity to cast the spell rapidly. However, it is an excellent function to learn spells/skills.
'No wonder I never got the spellbook item before. This function is too overpowered.' Thought Angus
Knowing this, Angus realizes that this is a very overpowered function that could make him learn any kind of spells/skills easily.
Angus speculates that to generate spell books, he needs to meet various requirements before it could drop. Otherwise, he will get another spellbook after killing virtual Wylda more than a hundred times.
'Either I am unlucky, or there is some special requirement. Otherwise, it is just a one-time drop item. Anyway, this has become more interesting.' thought Angus inwardly.
As time went by, three months passed in the blink of an eye. The time for the class tournament event soon comes. In the past months, Angus's combat capability has increased by leap bound.
Besides his power, he also got the title of Untouchable Scholar. Angus got the title as every student was afraid of him because of his bodyguard, Henry Dalton, and Duke Victory behind him.
Angus's father also makes his acquaintance's son/daughter to help and protect Angus somehow.
Since Angus is famous for being weak, many other strong students try to bully him. But, before bullying Angus, they always end up being forced back by Angus's 'bodyguard' across the academy.
Moreover, Angus seems to manage to 'avoid' all the bullies that come after him. Be it another student that tries to prank him or even a student that wants to challenge him.
Some students are bold enough to challenge him at a duel, but Angus immediately turns down by surrendering. A few days later, the challenger ends up being in the hospital after being challenged by another stronger student.
He also got a few good marks at his side course and is always found in the library during the weekend that gives him the moniker as scholar combined with the previous deed he became known as 'Untouchable Scholar'.
During the weekend, he tries to learn various spells and skills to increase his repertoire. Using his high intelligence status, he could learn some of them quite easily.
At first, he didn't have a place to practice. But, after 'manipulating' a little bit of manual battle function, he got himself a practice room with a living target inside it.
During the time Angus practiced spells and skills, he found the distinction between the two of them. Spells only increase the power based on the magic circle and its comprehensiveness. As for skills, they grow along with the user's proficiency and understanding.
For example, a first-year student doing basic skills [Bash] could only give a strong punch. But if a six-grade combatant is doing [Bash], he could easily obliterate a building. This is why skills are fewer in number than magic spells.
Skill prowess depends heavily on the proficiency of the user. The more often he uses, familiarizes, and masters the skill, the more potent its effect.
The royal academy gives some free skills and spells at the library. But to learn and practice it depends on the student themselves. The academy's teachers could also teach skills and spells for points.
However, Angus will never use these options to hide his real strength. He could learn the skills by himself using his past experience. As the strongest person in his past life, he could learn any skill as long as it is not too complicated.
While for Spells, Angus heavily relies on his own intelligence to learn it. Magic practically has the same way to cast and utilize it. The only difference is the magic circle they need to be constructed.
During these three months, he also found the rule for spellbooks's drop rate. Apparently, it drops only once with different kinds of drop chances according to the difficulty of the spells. He also found the same rules apply with skill books.
Although it only drops once, the books will drop again from the same person the moment they get enlightened or make huge progress at their respective skills/spells. All of this is on the premise that Angus already witnessed and learned more about their progress before.
He also found another item besides the book that the system drops, but most are categorized as materials. He said that because it always drops from monsters.
To familiarize himself with monsters, the student got a chance to look at a few live caged monsters during the monster studies course.
The first monster he sees is a brown wolf, a 2-meter tall wolf full of muscle. Its expression is very aggressive and full of bloodlust.
The moment the teacher shows them to the first years, most of them collapse or piss their pants from bloodlust. Only students with strong minds could handle their fear but still shivering heavily.
At that time, Angus pretends to be shivering and afraid that he is rooted in his place. He also manipulates his body to become paler than it is supposed to be.
To make some sort of resistance toward the monster's bloodlust, the teacher will occasionally bring students to look at a caught monster every month during the monster studies course.
Now, Angus participated in the briefing of a class tournament contest.
'Haa… when will this end?' thought Angus as he half listens to the briefing by teacher Elis.
