Chapter 73: Chapter 68: Close Family
"Uh... So how did I get better in the end?"
"After your acceptance letter came, your uncle treated you to a meal. We went back to the countryside for a few days, you helped your uncle with some work for a couple of days, and then you were able to sleep at night."
"You mean I just wasn’t tired enough."
"You were just idle. A few days of hard work and you settled right down."
"Emm... Okay, I get it."
After hanging up, Chen Yuan thought it over and over, trying to come up with a place where he could take Song Jianye to do some manual labor.
He thought about taking her to do some plastering, but he wasn’t sure if she’d be up for it.
He went back to his dorm for a short nap. When he went to class in the afternoon, he saw the Public Relations Department’s group chat had 99+ notifications. They were saying the account’s followers had broken a thousand.
’Did spending 20 yuan on a paid promotion really have such a big effect?’
’When did the capitalists get so conscientious?’
During his afternoon class, he received a leg pic. It was from Jiang Wanyi.
Jiang Wanyi: "Look how well it’s working. The gap is almost gone."
Chen Yuan: "That’s not the main point. Is it still leaking?"
Jiang Wanyi: "That’s mostly better too. I was organizing the fridge yesterday, and my wrist didn’t hurt as much."
Chen Yuan: "Victory is just around the corner. I’ll give you another massage this weekend, and that should just about do it."
Jiang Wanyi: "I think so too."
Chen Yuan: "Take a few more from different angles. I want to see how the recovery is going."
Jiang Wanyi: "Hold on, I’ll take them for you."
A moment later, several photos from different angles came through.
Tuesday, leg-viewing day. Everything was smooth sailing.
’Those legs, that figure...’
She was like a mature version of Song Jianye—absolutely flawless.
Chen Yuan: "Let’s keep up the good work this weekend."
Jiang Wanyi: "Okay."
Tomorrow was Wednesday. He’d already agreed to go to Jiang Wanyi’s place for dinner, which meant he could give her an extra massage and speed up the progress.
BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ—
Another message from Jiang Wanyi came in.
Jiang Wanyi: "Besides oysters, is there anything else you want to eat? I’ll make you something nice tomorrow."
Chen Yuan: "Anything’s fine, I’m not picky. As long as I can see Mili."
Little Mili was so soft and cuddly. If he didn’t see her for a while, he’d start to miss her.
Jiang Wanyi: "I even washed your underwear for you. You don’t miss me at all?"
Whoa!
’So even a mature woman like Jiang Wanyi asks these kinds of trick questions.’
Chen Yuan: "The child is my shield."
Jiang Wanyi: "smirk.jpg"
Jiang Wanyi: "Just kidding."
Jiang Wanyi: "Around what time can you come over? I’ll prepare dinner in advance."
Chen Yuan: "Between 5:30 and 6:00."
Jiang Wanyi: "Mm."
After chatting with Jiang Wanyi, he looked up at the blackboard. The dense writing was like a spiderweb, and a beam of light hitting it made it impossible to tell where it began or ended.
In a high school class, someone would have definitely raised their hand to tell the teacher and then drawn the curtains.
But now... no one cared.
The boring writing on the board was no match for the pleasant chirping of cicadas carried on the breeze.
He zoned out for the rest of the afternoon class, and the teacher left as soon as it was over, books tucked under his arm.
Chen Yuan sent a message to Song Jianye, asking what she was doing.
She didn’t have class this afternoon, so she’d gone off to practice driving.
Just then, the class president, Zheng Wenkai, stood up.
"I have something to say. Everyone, please wait a moment before you leave."
The students slowed down their packing and looked at Zheng Wenkai.
"Next week, the university is organizing a debate competition. It’s by class, so who in our class wants to sign up?"
The students glanced at each other, and people from each dorm started nominating their own roommates to compete.
This was the difference between university students and high school students.
If an activity like this were held in high school, everyone would whisper amongst themselves, then lower their heads and stay silent, not saying a word even if they really wanted to go.
University students were different. Forget a debate competition—they’d recommend their roommates go try a piece of shit if they could.
Amid the mutual nominations, a few people signed up. Chen Yuan wasn’t interested; he was getting ready to go play basketball with Liu Shiyu.
’If I just work a little harder, maybe I’ll be able to dunk and show off.’
"Chen Yuan, wait up."
Before he could even leave the classroom, the class president, Zheng Wenkai, called out to him.
"What’s up? I’m heading out to grab a court for basketball."
"Don’t be in a rush. I’ll just say two sentences."
"That was the first one."
"Huh?"
"Two sentences are up. I’m leaving."
By the time Zheng Wenkai realized what had happened, Chen Yuan was already gone.
"The hell? He’s fast."
Chen Yuan went back to his dorm to change, getting ready to go play basketball with Liu Shiyu.
Just as he was walking out of the dorm building, he ran into Zheng Wenkai on his way back.
"Yuan, about that debate competition I mentioned earlier, you should think about it."
"Didn’t you already round people up in class? How’d you end up coming to me?"
"I tried to rally everyone, but in the end, only three people signed up. We’re still one short. I think you’ve got a silver tongue, perfect for a debate competition. Want to give it a try?"
"I’m good at being absurd, but when it comes to being serious, I’m lacking."
"Stop being so modest. You’re quick on your feet; no one in our class can compare to you. Anyway, it’s settled. Besides, the debate competition is different from other activities. You can get extra credit if you place."
"Boss, I think you’d be great. Forget our class—in our whole department, every single person is hopelessly tongue-tied. When it comes to being a fast talker, very few people can compare to you," Liu Shiyu said.
"I suggest you find someone else. I’ve already entered the ’Top Ten Campus Singers’ competition. We should let other students participate in the school’s other activities too. It doesn’t matter if we win or not; it’s the participation that counts."
Zheng Wenkai thought about it and figured that made sense.
"Alright, I’ll go ask some other people and encourage other students to join. But if I really can’t find anyone, you have to help fill the spot. I’ll treat you to a meal afterward."
"Fine."
After settling the matter of the debate competition, Chen Yuan and Liu Shiyu left.
That evening, after playing basketball, he went to the hotel with Song Jianye.
