Chapter 71: Chapter 67: I’m Too Embarrassed to Play
"Can’t take it anymore? You think you’ll give out after one more go?"
"Let’s head out for now. You go to the restroom, and we can come back and play after you’re done. The sitter is watching the baby, anyway."
"You’re so silly," Jiang Wanyi whispered.
"They’re getting full. I’m afraid I’ll start leaking soon, and that would be awkward."
"Didn’t you take care of that right before we left?"
"I got bumped a few times while we were playing, and now I have a bad feeling about it."
As they spoke, the two of them had already left the play area. Jiang Wanyi leaned close to Chen Yuan’s ear and whispered,
"After a little while, even if they aren’t full, a single touch can set it off, so I have to be careful."
"Makes me proud of my technique all over again."
"Oh, you’re so full of yourself. Here, hold my purse."
Chen Yuan took Jiang Wanyi’s purse. She straightened her hair and glanced around.
"Looks like there are a lot of good places to eat around here. What are you in the mood for?"
"I’m good with anything. It’s up to you."
"This is no time for ’ladies first.’ You choose."
"I’m so used to your cooking that everything else seems pretty average. I don’t even know what to pick anymore."
"When it comes to sweet talk, you’re better than ten men combined."
Jiang Wanyi was very pleased. For Chen Yuan to say that was the highest praise for her cooking.
"I learned everything I know from TikTok. No matter how good it tastes, it can’t compare to a real chef."
"Well, chefs have different skill levels. Some of them are probably not even as good as you."
"But I can’t cook for you today, so just pick something. We’ll just grab a quick bite. My mom isn’t leaving tomorrow, so you can come over on Wednesday, and I’ll make you something delicious."
"Ramen, then. Something on the lighter side."
"Okay."
The two went to a nearby ramen shop and casually ordered two bowls of noodles, a drink, and a few barbecue skewers. And just like that, dinner was sorted.
The food came out quickly. Chen Yuan tried a bite. The flavor was decent but not amazing. However, they were generous with the meat, so it was just about worth the 28-yuan price tag.
"Here, this is for you."
Jiang Wanyi picked all the beef out of her bowl and put it in Chen Yuan’s.
"You should eat some too. Don’t give it all to me."
"I’m at home, so I can have this whenever I want. You’re at school, and I can’t cook for you every day, so you eat more."
Jiang Wanyi kept picking out pieces of meat, even the little ones, and moving them into Chen Yuan’s bowl.
"It’s always good for a man to eat more meat, no matter what. There, eat up."
Chen Yuan was still a little unused to being treated this way by Jiang Wanyi.
"What are you looking at me for? Hurry up and eat."
"Mm."
He ducked his head and took a big bite of noodles, then had a sip of his drink. "You know," Chen Yuan said,
"You probably don’t get to do things like this very often, do you?"
"I only remember doing it once, during a spring field trip in elementary school. After that, all my energy went into studying, so I never really did anything like it again."
Hearing Jiang Wanyi’s explanation, Chen Yuan understood why she’d been so into it earlier.
’Since she’d rarely done it before, of course she’d be interested. That wasn’t something age could control.’
’Some things are just instinct. It’s like how an 80-year-old man will still enjoy looking at a pretty pair of legs. You don’t lose interest until you’ve had your fill and gotten tired of it.’
’Then again, from another perspective, her childhood must have been pretty dull.’
’If I get the chance, I should bring her to places like this more often.’
RING, RING, RING—
Jiang Wanyi’s phone rang. It was her mother calling.
"Mom."
"We’re still out. We’ll be back in a little while."
"Be a good girl, sweetie. Mommy will be home soon."
After cooing a few words to Mili, Jiang Wanyi hung up.
"Was the baby looking for you?"
"It’s almost her bedtime. Let’s head back as soon as we’re finished eating."
"Okay."
"Eat slowly, there’s no rush. You’ll get indigestion if you eat too fast."
"I’m fine."
The two of them deliberately picked up their pace. After finishing their meal, they left the ramen shop and headed to the second basement level.
"Get in, I’ll drive you home."
"We’re heading in opposite directions. Don’t worry about driving me, just hurry back to Mili. I can just grab a cab."
"I can’t do that. Get in, quick." Jiang Wanyi insisted, beckoning him into the car.
"Why not? It’s fine, just go."
"Then at least get in the car. I’ll drive you up to the street, and you can get a taxi from the corner."
"Alright, fine."
Chen Yuan got in the car. Jiang Wanyi drove him to the intersection and looked at him apologetically.
"We come all the way out here, and I still have to make you take a cab home. I’m sorry to put you through the trouble."
"What’s the big deal? Don’t be silly, why are you getting so sensitive all of a sudden?"
Chen Yuan opened the door and got out of the car.
"Wait, don’t go just yet."
"What is it?" Chen Yuan asked, leaning down.
"If you’re free Wednesday night, come over. I’ll make you something good."
"What are you making?"
"I’m going to make you oysters," Jiang Wanyi said with a smile.
