Chapter 60: Chapter 60: She Felt Something Was Wrong

Jiang Wanyi walked off triumphantly, taking the laundry into the bathroom.

Chen Yuan put Mili in her playpen and played with her, helping her practice crawling and exploring the world.

At the same time, he was chatting with Song Jianye, who was memorizing vocabulary in the library. They had also made plans to go practice driving together tomorrow.

"Bring the baby over, I’m going to give her a bath."

"Okay."

Chen Yuan handed the baby to Jiang Wanyi and went to the kitchen.

"There are drinks in the fridge. Get whatever you want."

"I’m going to make you something."

"Don’t bother. My supply is more than enough right now; she can’t even finish it all."

"It’s something to help you regain your strength. You seem a little drained right now."

Jiang Wanyi’s heart warmed. She smiled and said, "You’re such a sweetheart."

"Hey, hey, hey, no name-calling now."

"It’s a compliment."

Jiang Wanyi took the baby for her bath. Chen Yuan opened the fridge; he had already bought all the necessary ingredients. He just had to put them into the electric health pot in the correct proportions.

’The recipe for this lactation-boosting soup can’t be sold publicly, but if I were to sell this stuff, I could probably make a killing.’

After he finished preparing the restorative drink, Jiang Wanyi was still in the bathroom giving the baby her bath.

The mother-daughter duo seemed to be having a good time and didn’t really need him, so he went back to the living room sofa.

He had a message from Jiang Shuyi on WeChat.

She really was a woman of action. She had already spoken to Jin Yechao today about what they discussed yesterday. The two of them quickly reached an agreement, and they had even created the account already.

Zhonghai University of Technology External Relations Department

He followed it.

The next step was to create content. They agreed to have a short meeting on Sunday night to discuss the account.

’This is definitely going to be tricky, though. Building a successful account isn’t easy.’

’Otherwise, everyone would be striking it rich on TikTok. What makes me think I’ll be the one to cash in?’

After he finished chatting with Jiang Shuyi, he saw a new friend request on his phone.

Nickname: 7°

Message: Fang Youning.

’A very minimalist name, but not as good as my own, "The South Village Horde Mocks Me For Being Old and Weak."’

He accepted the friend request.

He was about to send a polite greeting when he saw the "..." indicating she was typing.

So he decided not to rush and waited to see what she would say.

「Building 11, Room 209.」

Fang Youning lay on her bed in her cotton pajamas, staring at her phone screen.

She saw that Chen Yuan had accepted her friend request and was about to message him about the results of today’s competition.

But after typing out the message, Fang Youning deleted it.

She pouted, puffing out her rosy cheeks. ’I don’t want to talk to him.’

’I dropped so many hints, and he still didn’t add me as a friend.’

Five whole minutes passed. The chat window was still empty; not a single message had come through.

’Why hasn’t he said anything to me?!’

’I was the one who added him! What more does he want?!’

She waited a few more minutes. Still nothing.

’Should I take the initiative?’

’I guess that would be okay, since I have something important to talk to him about.’

Fang Youning: [smile.jpg]

Fang Youning: "The round to narrow it down from 70 to 30 contestants is over. The results should be out soon."

One minute...

Two minutes...

Three minutes...

Five whole minutes passed without a reply from Chen Yuan.

Fang Youning’s mind started racing.

’We’re already friends, so he must have his phone on him.’

’I even messaged him first, so why isn’t he replying?’

’Is someone with him? Is it inconvenient for him to text me back?’

’His dorm is full of guys, so that shouldn’t matter, right?’

’Is he not in his dorm?’

’Is he with another girl?’

After turning it over and over in her mind, this was the only possibility Fang Youning could come up with.

’He seems so capable. He can sing and play basketball, and he’s so tall... When I stand next to him, I only come up to the corner of his mouth.’

’It’s only natural that other girls would like him.’

’I’m looking at what I sent, and it’s nothing scandalous. I’m messaging him for a legitimate reason. So what if someone else sees it?’

’Or... could that smiling emoji be misinterpreted?’

’This is so frustrating!’

"Yangyang."

The girl named Yangyang, full name Sun Mengyang, was the third roommate in their dorm. From the first day of university, she had been adamant about not dating in college, claiming that all men were scum, her own father included.

When someone’s willing to disown her own family like that, you really can’t argue with her.

"I want to ask you something."

"Go ahead."

"If you messaged a guy and he didn’t reply, what do you think the reason would be?"

"Could be lots of reasons. Maybe he got hit by a car, bitten by a dog, or his phone fell and got run over. Anyway, there are tons of possibilities. Why the sudden question? Everything okay?"

"Uh... No reason. I was just wondering."

Chen Yuan was, in fact, a little busy. Mili had finished her bath, and he had just carried her back to the spare bedroom.

He dried her off, put on some baby powder, and was playing with her with a toy before dressing her.

Just then, Jiang Wanyi came in, wiping the sweat from her forehead.

"Here, let me take her. I’ll feed her, and then I can get her to sleep."

Chen Yuan glanced at the time on his phone; it was indeed her bedtime.

He handed the baby to Jiang Wanyi, left the room, and finally saw Fang Youning’s messages.

Chen Yuan: "So, was I eliminated?"

Fang Youning: "I fought to keep you in, but Li Dongyang disagreed. If your name isn’t on the final list, I’m going to go confront him about it."

Chen Yuan: "Don’t. It’s fine if I get eliminated. It’s not a big deal, so don’t worry about it."

Chen Yuan was already completely relaxed about the whole thing. If he got in, he’d go on singing nursery rhymes. If not, it was no big loss.

Fang Youning: "I think you deserve to get through. If you don’t, I’m quitting the Arts Committee. I don’t want to be a part of it anymore."

Chen Yuan scratched his head. ’If she really does that, won’t I end up owing her a huge favor?’

"Honey."

He was just about to reply to the message when Jiang Wanyi’s voice called out from the bedroom, accompanied by the sound of Mili’s cries.

He put down his phone and went to the bedroom doorway. Jiang Wanyi had her back to him, revealing a sliver of her soft, full waist.

"What’s wrong?"

"She only had a little rice cereal and fruit puree at dinner and nothing since. I just tried to nurse her, but she won’t eat. She spits it right back out. Do you think she caught a chill during her bath? Is she sick?"

Jiang Wanyi was trying to soothe the baby, her face etched with worry.

"Don’t panic. It’s too hot for her to have caught a chill."

Chen Yuan walked over. Jiang Wanyi pulled her shirt down, and there were still some white, milky marks on her chest.

When Mili saw Chen Yuan, she started to smile again, reaching out her little arms to be held by him.

He took Mili into his arms and felt her forehead.

"Judging by her state, she seems fine."

Chen Yuan looked at Jiang Wanyi and said,

"She won’t eat at all? Is she acting strange in any other way?"

"No, she just spits it right back out. She even bit me."

Chen Yuan frowned, pondering the cause. He glanced at Jiang Wanyi again.

"I think I know why."

"Why? What is it?"

"You were busy giving her a bath just now, and you worked up a sweat. She can taste it, and she doesn’t like it, so she won’t eat."
