Chapter 172: Chapter 101: Daddy, She Hit Me

For a moment, Jiang Wanyi’s mind went completely blank. It took her a long time to come back to her senses.

She never thought something like this would happen to her at this stage of her life.

But now, it was really, truly happening, right in front of her.

PFFT—

Jiang Wanyi couldn’t help it; she burst out laughing.

’Only Chen Yuan could come up with such a harebrained scheme, using his own daughter as a little horse cart.’

"Come here, let Mommy hold you."

Bending down to pick up the baby, Jiang Wanyi’s heart hammered in her chest. She had no idea what to say in that moment.

She held the roses to her nose and sniffed; they had a faint, sweet scent.

Carrying the baby, she walked to the door of the guest bedroom. As she looked at Chen Yuan, a blush spread across her cheeks like fast-growing ivy.

"What made you think of buying me flowers?"

"When we were at the market, didn’t you say you wanted to buy flowers? But buying them for yourself isn’t as good as having someone give them to you."

"They’re beautiful. I love them."

"I’m glad you like them."

"I’m going to go feed her first. I’ll bring her back over in a bit."

"Okay."

With her heart pounding like thunder in a summer storm, Jiang Wanyi returned to her room holding Mili.

In the enclosed space, there was no sound. Jiang Wanyi could even hear her own heartbeat.

Gazing at the bouquet of fiery red roses, her feelings were complicated.

No woman can remain calm when faced with roses, and Jiang Wanyi was no exception.

"Aah aah aah—"

Mili’s cries broke Jiang Wanyi out of her thoughts.

’This isn’t the time to be thinking about this. I need to feed the baby first.’

She had originally planned to get dressed, but with Mili here, she could just untie her bath towel and hold the baby to her chest. Her attention, however, was fixed on the bouquet of roses, and she drifted off in a daze.

"HISS—"

Caught completely off guard, she was bitten by Mili. Jiang Wanyi winced in pain and gave her a light slap on her little bottom.

"How many times have I told you? Don’t bite Mommy."

Mili was a little startled and instinctively hit Jiang Wanyi with her tiny fists.

"You dare hit me!"

Jiang Wanyi’s eyes narrowed, her expression growing more severe.

"Her father!"

Jiang Wanyi shouted, pulling her bath towel tightly around herself as Mili started to cry.

Chen Yuan hurried over at the sound of her voice. He pushed the door open quietly, only entering after making sure Jiang Wanyi was wrapped in her towel.

The atmosphere between mother and daughter was a little strange.

Jiang Wanyi had a stern look on her face, while Mili was crying and reaching out for him to hold her.

"What’s wrong?"

Chen Yuan went over and took the baby into his arms, gently patting her back.

"Don’t cry, Mili. Daddy’s here to hold you."

Mili’s crying soon stopped, but large teardrops still clung to her long eyelashes, a heart-wrenching sight.

Jiang Wanyi, however, shot her a glare, her chest heaving with anger.

"Ask her!"

"She’s only nine months old."

Jiang Wanyi let out a laugh of exasperation.

"She just bit me. I said one thing to her, and she hit me. You tell me what to do about that."

"It’s just an instinctual reaction. In her world, those concepts don’t exist yet," Chen Yuan said.

"I bet she learned it from you, from when you hit me a few times while cleaning my ears."

"I don’t want to hear it. Just tell me whose side you’re on, and what we’re going to do about this."

Er...

This situation wasn’t about a mother and her child anymore; it was more like a war between two women.

"I’m on your side, of course. Does that even need to be said?"

"Then go discipline her!"

"Alright."

Chen Yuan left, holding the baby. Mili rested her head on his shoulder, and as they went, mother and daughter exchanged a look.

"Hmph!"

Jiang Wanyi put on a smug expression, as if to say, ’Someone’s fighting my battles for me!’

After Chen Yuan left with the baby, Jiang Wanyi picked up the roses again. She held them to her nose and sniffed. They were exceptionally fragrant, their color exceptionally vibrant.

She took out her phone and snapped several pictures.

She untied her bath towel, changed into fresh underwear, then put on a pair of shorts and a loose tank top before heading out with the roses.

Standing at the door to the guest bedroom, she saw Chen Yuan ’lecturing’ his daughter.

"How could you hit Mommy? That’s not right..."

"You should thank your lucky stars you were born in a good era. When I was little, I yelled at my mom once and almost got my legs broken."

"Have you realized your mistake?"

"If you don’t say anything, that means you admit it. Let’s go. We’re going to apologize to Mommy and give her a kiss."

Chen Yuan got off the bed, holding Mili, and saw Jiang Wanyi standing in the doorway.

"I’ve already disciplined her and made her reflect deeply on her actions. Tomorrow, she has to submit a 2,000-word self-criticism essay. I’m also cutting her off milk for three days; she can only have solid food."

Jiang Wanyi looked at Mili with a provocative glint in her eye.

"Have you realized your mistake?"

"Aah aah aah..."

"What did she say?" Jiang Wanyi asked.

"She said she has deeply realized her mistake and will never do it again," Chen Yuan said.

She reached out, pinched Mili’s cheek, and threatened:

"If you dare hit me again, I’ll have your father deal with you!"

Jiang Wanyi’s mind was no longer on the baby. Having let off her steam, she took the roses to the living room.

She put some water in a newly bought vase, placed the roses inside, and then kept adjusting their angle.

Chen Yuan held the baby, patting her gently and humming a nursery rhyme.

Jiang Wanyi was busy arranging the roses, her eyes no longer on her child, filled only with the desire to get the perfect shot.

She even flicked the lights on and off several times, just to find the right angle and lighting for a photo.

Watching Jiang Wanyi take pictures, he realized the significance of this bouquet of roses was far greater than he had imagined.
