I Inherited 5,000 Years of Family Property
Chapter 2141 - 2134: But Damn, He Really Can Make It Rain
"Poison them? How are we supposed to poison them?" Xiwat asked, baffled. "You mean we go down there and take control of all those rebel leaders?"
"No, no, no." Zhang Menglong shook his head.
"Then you mean their families? But right now we might not even be able to get back to the capital, there’s no way we can get close to their families!"
"Not that either." Zhang Menglong kept shaking his head. "I’m a man of principles, I look down on using cheap tricks like that to threaten people."
Xiwat rolled his eyes. You’re planning to poison people and you still claim you’re not despicable? Poison is poison; only the targets are different—what’s the difference?
"Then what exactly do you mean by poisoning?" Xiwat really couldn’t think of anything else.
"Aren’t they just relying on numbers?" Zhang Menglong grinned. "How many soldiers does the entire Mansha Kingdom have? If we knock all of them out with poison, wouldn’t that solve it?"
"This..." Xiwat suddenly didn’t know what to say. Setting aside whether this is even possible—an army close to a billion people, how much poison would it take to knock them all down?
And that kind of move would be harming their own soldiers. He simply couldn’t bring himself to do it!
"Relax, General," Zhang Menglong said. "I won’t use anything too harsh. At most it’ll just temporarily take away their ability to fight. Once everything’s over, they’ll naturally recover, and it won’t leave any aftereffects."
"Really?" Xiwat asked excitedly.
"Absolutely," Zhang Menglong replied. "But if that’s all we do, then this kind of toxin won’t affect those Transcenders much. So how we take out those rebel leaders is the key to whether we can win."
At that, General Xiwat’s expression dimmed.
The enemy has ten times more Transcenders than they do. With just the few of them, their chances were slim.
"Menglong, do you have any ideas?" Xiwat asked.
"No special plan. We just go head-on and get it over with. We’re talking a few dozen Transcenders, right?" Zhang Menglong said. "If the General trusts me, we’ll go tomorrow together."
"Of course I trust you." Though Xiwat still had no idea where Zhang Menglong really came from, he was sure Zhang Menglong was on his side. "I’ll go gather our forces right away—tomorrow morning we fight our way back."
"No need to make it that complicated," Zhang Menglong said. "Tomorrow it’ll just be the two of us, plus one Karon. The three of us are enough. If we bring too many people, we’ll just be a bigger target.
"Just the three of us?" Xiwat stared at him in disbelief.
Among all the Generals, Xiwat was indeed one of the stronger ones, but still, in the end he was just one man. How was he supposed to stand against that many Transcenders?
Three people going in—how is that fundamentally different from going to get killed?
"General, weren’t you just saying you trusted me? How come you don’t anymore after only a few minutes?" Zhang Menglong laughed.
Xiwat’s expression was conflicted. He really did trust Zhang Menglong, but this was undoubtedly a massive gamble.
"Fine!" Xiwat gritted his teeth. Zhang Menglong’s origins were mysterious; to this day he still couldn’t see how many trump cards Zhang Menglong had hidden. Maybe he could still bring him some kind of surprise.
Besides, judging from Zhang Menglong’s calm, laid-back attitude, he didn’t seem to be taking this seriously at all. In Zhang Menglong’s eyes, aside from that relaxed look, Xiwat even saw a hint of mockery!
Zhang Menglong was supposed to be just a freshly awakened Transcender. The level of his life evolution was still far from Xiwat’s own. Where did he get that kind of confidence from?
...
"Master, just the three of us—are you sure this really won’t be a problem?"
In the sky, the three of them were flying at top speed toward the capital of the Mansha Kingdom on their Purple Cloud Wings. Aside from Zhang Menglong, the other two both looked extremely worried.
"Relax. Your master’s right here—what could possibly go wrong?" Zhang Menglong said, full of confidence.
"We’re just going to charge straight in?"
Zhang Menglong gave Karon two solid thumps on the head. "You got any brains in there? They’ve got an army of a billion, and we’re three people. By now they’ve probably already laid out a huge net waiting for us. If we rush in now, how is that not suicide?"
"Then why are we even going?" Karon rubbed his head pitifully.
"What do you think? We’re going to poison them, obviously!"
After traveling for a full day and night, the three finally arrived at the capital of the Mansha Kingdom—the City of Sand Smoke.
Just as they’d expected, the entire City of Sand Smoke was on high alert. Massive numbers of soldiers were stationed around the capital, and inside the city there were patrols everywhere. They’d even imposed a curfew.
The three of them couldn’t just charge in, but as long as they hid their Energy and only moved around the outskirts, they didn’t attract any attention.
"The defenses are even tighter than I imagined," Xiwat said in an extremely grave tone. "It’s like not even a fly could get in!"
He had originally wanted to check on his family and try to find where the Royal Family was being held. Now it looked like that wouldn’t be easy.
"Menglong, the city’s entire water supply comes from that river to the west. All water for the city is purified from that river."
"Why are you telling me that?" Zhang Menglong tilted his head.
"You said you were going to poison them. Aren’t you planning to start from the water source?"
"Of course not." Zhang Menglong shook his head. "Given the Mansha Kingdom’s level of Science, if we poison the water source, either the department in charge of water will immediately detect it, or they’ll just filter out the toxins during processing. It’d be pointless."
"Then what’s your plan?"
"Come with me!" Zhang Menglong led the two of them to a barren mountain in the distance. Almost no one ever came here, but from this spot you could practically overlook the entire City of Sand Smoke.
They watched as Zhang Menglong pulled out a table, then started taking out all sorts of bizarre items.
Candles, incense, a sword made of coins, little bowls, and so on—it looked like he was about to perform some kind of random occult ritual.
"Master, what are you doing?"
"Poisoning them, obviously!" Zhang Menglong said. "But before that, I need to ask for rain."
"Ask for rain?"
The two of them froze. Powerful Transcenders could directly affect the weather, but most of the time, artificial rainfall could be achieved by fairly basic scientific methods.
As for rain-prayer rituals, that was pure superstition. They’d been banned ages ago when Mansha Kingdom cracked down on superstition.
"Spirits of sky, spirits of earth, Heavenly Lord above, show your power!" Zhang Menglong shook a bell and waved the coin-sword in his hand, looking exactly like some shady street shaman. There wasn’t the slightest trace of Energy fluctuation coming off him; he clearly wasn’t using his own Energy to alter the weather!
Yet right at that moment, thunder rumbled in the sky, and thick black clouds began to gather. The surrounding air suddenly turned damp.
The two of them stared at Zhang Menglong, dumbstruck.
Wasn’t this stuff supposed to be superstition, pseudo-science?
But the guy actually could ask for rain!
