Chapter 412
The season was wrong, the climate was wrong— how could it suddenly snow? At this time, Ye Zhi also began to notice that this seemed to be a deliberately arranged surprise.
The rustling sounds of snow echoed and Ye Zhi’s eyes swept across the garden and the surrounding scenery. Against the background of snowflakes, the imagery of winter in spring gave off a wonderful scene.
Ye Zhi’s eyes fixed and fell on a person.
Gu Ren held a black umbrella and stood on the other side, feet buried in the heavy snow that was flying all over. His figure was tall and straight and his temperament was as cool as a fir tree.
Those eyes were extremely dark and deep, and in the gloomy shade of darkness, his burning eyes were like candles, staring at her fixedly.
Gu Ren suddenly started to walk in Ye Zhi’s direction. His steps were unhurried, as if he was walking towards her from a distant memory.
Gu Ren walked in front of Ye Zhi with the black umbrella covering them from the wind and the gentle snow as he looked down at her.
Ye Zhi raised her head and locked her sights onto those black eyes. She asked, “Why is it snowing?”
Gu Ren didn’t answer her and just raised his thin lips silently. His cold voice seemed to dissolve along in the snow,”Do you like it?”
Ye Zhi’s heart started to beat a little faster as a very soft ‘umm’ sounded from her throat as if her voice was stained with snow.
Gu Ren’s eyes narrowed and he set his gaze on Ye Zhi’s eyes.
Tiny specks of snow fell onto Ye Zhi’s slender eyelashes.
Gu Ren stretched out his hand subconsciously and his slender fingers reached over to her face. Ye Zhi closed her eyes involuntarily as the pulp of his fingers gently landed on her eyes.
A warm touch covered Ye Zhi’s eyes as an impossibly gentle brush of his fingers dusted the snowflakes off her eyelashes.
Gu Ren withdrew his hand, causing the warmth to suddenly be pulled away. Ye Zhi opened her eyes and heard his low, hoarse voice reaching her ear, “Let’s go.”
Gu Ren swung his arm and embraced Ye Zhi’s shoulders before leading her into the house. They walked through the garden and as it was still snowing, their breaths were cold but their body temperatures were in contrast to that coldness.
Walking into the house, Ye Zhi was stunned for a moment upon seeing that every room on the first floor was open. She turned her head to look at Gu Ren and he motioned her to move on.
The first room was decorated like a ward— equipped with transparent glass windows, she could see snowflakes falling.
That was the first time Gu Ren met Ye Zhi.
In the second room was a cane and a bunch of flowers. She once placed a bunch of flowers beside Gu Ren’s hospital bed every day.
In their previous lives, although Gu Ren’s eyes were blind, his heart was able to see. He rediscovered the meaning of life from the fragrance of the new batch of flowers every day.
The third room featured two silhouettes that were made of flowers. Ye Zhi held Gu Ren’s hand as he led her forward.
“It’s dark and I can’t see.”
“I will hold you, so worry not, you won’t ever be hurt.”
…
Every room was filled with the memories of Gu Ren and Ye Zhi— from the past to the present, in the unexpected partings to their reunions.
The journey was short, yet long.
Short in the way that they were capable of walking through the memories with each step; but long in the way that the memories spanned throughout two lifetimes.
Scenes of the past appeared before their eyes. The past was gradually becoming clearer and the tide was coming.
