The Borderlands were vast, stretching beyond the horizon.
Normally, countless wild beasts roamed this place—some scattered, some clustered in small groups—hunting humans, fighting each other, spreading across the whole expanse. But today, these beasts were like startled birds fleeing from a bowstring’s snap. They scattered in all directions, not daring to linger for even a second.
For thirty thousand warriors had gathered, surging forward with an iron-blooded momentum like dark storm clouds rolling in. Wherever they passed, the beasts were crushed beneath the march—shattered before a scream or drop of blood could escape. The army’s advance left nothing in its path but dust.
Every obstacle in their way was ground to powder beneath the vanguard.
Unstoppable.
Their heading was no accident—it was a region already scouted, lying between the territories of the Blue-Eyed Tribe and the Demon Wolf Tribe.
In preparation for crushing the human resistance, the Giant Rock Tribe had already sent their idle forces there, waiting to launch a full-scale assault on Eight Desolations City alongside the beast tide. Now, after several days, the enormous beast horde had nearly finished gathering. With the attack imminent, the foreign tribes had fully assembled and hadn’t moved from the area.
Which made them a perfect target.
Now, the 300,000-strong army of Eight Desolations was ready to wipe them out in one fell swoop.
After more than two hours of rapid advance, they were drawing close.
In this moment, Wu Zhenhuang rose high into the air, releasing a powerful aura as he shouted, “Halt!”
At once, the entire army stopped in perfect unison.
As commander of this campaign, every word he spoke carried full authority.
Gu Zuo then released his psychic sense, sweeping it outward like a tide to probe the battlefield.
Meanwhile, on Wu Zhenhuang’s other side, several military advisors had taken out strange magical artifacts. They mounted them before their eyes to peer far into the distance.
Before long, each advisor began to report back to Wu Zhenhuang with what they’d seen.
Gu Zuo, too, had now clearly observed the scene ahead.
The beast tide… was even larger than the scouts had warned.
At first glance, the number of wild beasts was likely over two million!
It was truly a colossal beast horde!
Such a terrifying force—if it ever reached the city—would trample it to rubble in an instant, no matter how strong the fortifications or inscriptions were. Nothing could stop the tide of destruction.
This was far more terrifying than a large-scale beast tide of a million!
Gu Zuo took a long, steadying breath.
He could see that among the beast horde, many Blue-Eyed Tribe members stood—some with single glowing blue eyes, others with both eyes shining brightly. These individuals were scattered throughout the tide of beasts, spaced far apart. The spaces between them were packed with wild beasts. Behind each of these blue-eyed individuals stood several—sometimes a dozen—ordinary Blue-Eyed tribesmen, seemingly connected to the main figure. Their posture was one of support, clearly playing an important auxiliary role in battle—not to be underestimated.
The Demon Wolf Tribe led packs of monstrous wolves, their bodies radiating eerie demonic energy. The Giant Rock Tribe looked savage and terrifying, forming massive stone walls on the other side of the battlefield, merging with the giant beasts. Once they launched their assault, they would likely charge forward like tanks alongside those monstrous beasts—devastating and nearly unstoppable.
Thankfully, the humans had acted fast. If they had waited another five days—or even just three—this beast horde would have been fully assembled, and Eight Desolations City would have been plunged into hell!
Getting here ahead of time was a stroke of luck.
Because the Blue-Eyed Tribe possessed strong psychic power, Gu Zuo didn’t dare observe for long. He swept his spiritual sense over the area just once to memorize the scene, then immediately withdrew it. Then he began listening to the advisors describing what they had seen to Wu Zhenhuang.
But it was obvious—their vision was limited. Even when their accounts were pieced together, they only grasped seventy to eighty percent of the full picture. Seeing this, Gu Zuo stepped forward and described everything he had seen.
Wu Zhenhuang and the others were delighted by the detailed report.
Only then did they recall that pharmacists were not only skilled at refining medicine—their psychic strength had many uses as well. It was just that in the early stages of training, this power didn’t seem all that impressive, so it was often overlooked. Now that the Pill Slaughterer Profound Shadow had created so many miraculous concoctions, it was clear his psychic strength far exceeded that of an ordinary Profound-Level pharmacist. That he could now be of use on the battlefield was only natural.
After hearing Gu Zuo’s report, the group’s expressions grew grave, a flicker of fear flashing through their eyes.
They were fortunate—very fortunate—to have launched their campaign early. Otherwise, it would’ve been too late.
The foreign tribes, driven by hatred, had managed to unite to such a terrifying degree. They had thrown everything they had into this one battle—a full-force invasion.
The commanders quickly composed themselves.
Since they had arrived first and already scouted the enemy’s positions, there was no need to hesitate—they would charge straight in.
Wu Zhenhuang issued a revised command:
“Of the one hundred thousand assigned to slay beasts, send sixty thousand to support the unit attacking the Blue-Eyed Tribe. Two to guard each attacker. Clear a path through the beasts and kill the Blue-Eyed Tribe one by one!”
The warriors responded in unison:
“Yes, City Lord!”
As for the others, they would follow the original battle plan and charge accordingly.
The Demon Wolf Tribe was more numerous, but not all of them could summon wild wolves. Their troops were more spread out than the Blue-Eyed Tribe, so the approach didn’t need to be as aggressive. However, this also meant they’d be tougher to eliminate—those thirty thousand reserve troops would likely have to reinforce this area to ensure the Demon Wolf Tribe could be wiped out quickly.
Once the battle orders were given, the warriors surged forward like floodwaters. They charged ahead in tight formations, mounted on tamed beasts that moved with astonishing speed. The warriors’ auras merged with their steeds, and each gallop further intensified their presence.
*Boom! Boom! Boom!*
The ground itself trembled beneath their advance.
After roughly the time it takes to burn a stick of incense, the enemy army of beasts and foreign tribes came into view!
The warriors did not hesitate. They split into separate spearheads and pierced forward like flying arrows.
On the other side, the foreign tribes had not expected the humans to arrive so quickly. The beast horde they had gathered wasn’t even fully under control yet. Now, faced with tens of thousands of charging human warriors, the sheer momentum of the assault sent panic through the beast ranks.
For a moment, chaos erupted within the horde.
Wu Zhenhuang saw this and his face lit up.
“Charge!”
Countless warriors roared in unison:
“Kill—!”
With killing intent and battle fervor exploding around them, many warriors released thin streams of liquid from their hands. The fluid looked weak and delicate—yet it transformed into countless droplets, each landing with pinpoint accuracy on the dense beast masses.
In a blink, every beast touched by those “raindrops” collapsed—flesh and bones rotting instantly, dead on the spot! The poison was unbelievably potent—the rate at which the beasts were dying was terrifying.
Because the beasts had been caught off guard, tens of thousands were slain in that instant.
Panic intensified in the beast horde. Under the pressure of the Blue-Eyed Tribe, they grew even more frenzied—some even tried to break free from their masters’ control. At the same time, several weaker Blue-Eyed tribesmen spat blood violently—the beasts’ rebellion had backfired on them.
What a powerful concoction!
The warriors were ecstatic. They had known in theory what the poison could do, but now—seeing it in action, witnessing its devastating effect on such a massive scale—they were utterly awed.
At this moment, less than ten percent of the potion in the gourds had been used. That meant—they could repeat this exact attack another ten times!
The chaos among the wild beasts had alerted the other foreign tribes to the humans’ arrival, and their expressions turned grim.
They had never expected that the humans would discover their plan in advance, nor that they would be bold enough to march deep into the borderlands and strike first!
Still, they had made plenty of preparations. At once, the Demon Wolf Tribe and Blue-Eyed Tribe began commanding the beasts, forcing them to form a living shield in front of them to buy time. Meanwhile, the Giant Rock Tribe and the giant beasts charged forward together like a fleet of locomotives, rumbling furiously as they barreled toward the human army!
But the humans weren’t intimidated in the slightest. After the first wave of potion carved a gap in the beast horde, the warriors assigned to attack the Demon Wolf and Blue-Eyed Tribes plunged into the chaos. They moved in groups, forming small squads that forced their way through the beasts, surging toward their targets.
Even so, the beasts under control fought fearlessly, throwing themselves at the humans like an unending tide. The path was blocked once more, and the human warriors met the challenge with blood and steel—magical weapons flashing cold light, murderous intent surging, and blood soaking into their armor.
The battle had already begun in full force. There was no need for any more signals or declarations—the two sides had already collided head-on in a brutal melee! After the initial clash, both humans and foreign tribes were seeing red, their eyes bloodshot with only one thought in their minds: Kill! Kill the enemy!
Nothing else mattered anymore.
The stalemate didn’t last long. The beast horde was beginning to regroup again, while the humans still hadn’t broken through the defensive lines—until another wave of potion was unleashed, killing large swaths of beasts and clearing a path once more.
At this moment, a single-eyed Blue-Eyed tribesman and several of his regular tribesmen appeared directly in the path of the charging humans. One soldier’s eyes lit up in excitement. He grinned savagely, slapped his gourd, and a small stream of poison surged out. He sent it flying through the air with a gust of internal force, turning it into a delicate mist that rained down on the Blue-Eyed group.
The ordinary tribesmen dropped dead instantly. The single-eyed one froze for a brief moment, clearly unable to resist the poison. Though he recovered quickly—his eye bursting with a bright blue light and charging forward—the human warrior only grinned wider.
A crisp *crack* sounded from the eye mask he wore, splitting open a thin fissure. At the same time, he raised his broadsword and, seizing the brief moment of stiffness in his enemy, brought it down in a clean arc—severing the Blue-Eyed tribesman’s head clean off.
Dead.
The death of that one single-eyed clansman sent a shock through the rest of the Blue-Eyed Tribe. They knew their blood gave them some resistance to poison, but none of them had expected someone to create a poison that could affect them—and in just the short time it stunned them, a quick-thinking warrior could take their life!
In that instant, fear appeared on the faces of countless ordinary Blue-Eyed tribesmen.
They had always stood above others, commanding wild beasts at will even against the human race. Besides a few rare blood sacrifices, they almost never suffered personal losses. But now, that pride was ripped away, exposing how small and weak their hearts truly were.
Yes, the Blue-Eyed Tribe may have powerful soul-capturing abilities, but their willpower couldn’t even compare to that of an average Eight Desolations City warrior!
And it was precisely this brief moment of fear that caused their control over the beasts to falter. The human warriors seized the opportunity, surging forward again, freely splashing poison from their gourds. In just a few heartbeats, over a thousand Blue-Eyed tribesmen were slain!
For a race that only numbered thirty thousand in total, losing over a thousand was like having chunks of flesh torn from their bodies—a devastating blow.
The morale of the human warriors soared.
The Blue-Eyed Tribe, once seen as an almost insurmountable foe, now fell by the dozens at their hands. Their trust in the potion within the gourds deepened, and their fighting spirit burned brighter than ever. They charged with excitement, blood boiling.
Meanwhile, the Demon Wolf Tribe was also taking heavy losses—large swaths of their forces falling in battle.
Compared to the Blue-Eyed Tribe’s soul-capturing powers, which demanded constant caution, the Demon Wolf Tribe—though likewise mingled among the beast tide—was much easier to deal with.
“Potion first! Clear the path with potion!”
Wave after wave of wild wolves fell, and even those Demon Wolf tribesmen protected by the beasts’ desperate sacrifices melted away like spring snow under the downpour of poisonous water. The wild wolves were utterly shaken, howling as they frantically regrouped—but the faster they clustered, the easier it became for the potion to spread. As more of the toxic mist fell on them, even more wild wolves died, and the Demon Wolf tribesmen they surrounded were unable to escape, dying quickly from trampling and corrosion.
Eventually, one of the Demon Wolf tribesmen managed to stay calm and shouted, “Disperse! Don’t cluster together!”
But it was too late to matter.
Even though many of the wild wolves and their masters obeyed and tried to scatter, they weren’t the only ones on the battlefield. Countless other beasts and foreign tribes were also dodging around in the chaos, colliding and trampling one another in the massive tide of creatures. In moments, more warriors were crushed underfoot, coughing up blood, or simply killed outright by the vibrations and chaos.
As for the Giant Rock Tribe’s charge, the human warriors swiftly evaded. Those assigned to deal with them had been carefully selected in advance—the fastest, most agile fighters.
Now, they dodged with incredible speed and released their poison. In an instant, a giant beast collapsed thunderously. Several nearby Giant Rock tribesmen were caught off guard and crushed beneath the beast’s bulk! The rest, having grouped too closely, were hit by multiple droplets of poison. In moments, they melted into pools of blood that seeped into the earth.
Even their tough stone-hardened skin couldn’t save them. The poison had been crafted specifically for them, and their sluggish bodies only accelerated their demise—faster even than the Blue-Eyed and Demon Wolf Tribes!
Among the three foreign tribes, the Giant Rock Tribe was the most hated by the humans—brutal, savage, and merciless.
The more they died, the more fervent the human warriors became. Their hatred burned brighter, their killing intent surged higher!
The battlefield reeked of blood.
Up in the sky, Gu Zuo and Gongyi Tianheng floated in midair, eyes fixed on the chaos below, their gazes grim.
For the moment, the humans clearly had the upper hand. But the poison hadn’t yet been used to its fullest potential, and more importantly—the top-tier fighters from the three foreign tribes hadn’t made a move yet.
Each of the Blue-Eyed and Demon Wolf Tribes had a warrior at the Peak Noble Realm, while the Giant Rock Tribe had two. On the human side, there were three of the same level.
Additionally, each foreign tribe had two Celestial Realm experts in secluded cultivation, while the humans had five.
So overall, the humans were short one Noble and one Celestial Realm powerhouse.
Originally, the strategy had been for Wu Zhenhuang—who was at the peak of the Ascendant Realm—to engage one of the Celestial Realm experts in battle. But now, with Gongyi Tianheng also at the Ascendant Realm, the two could work together to try and kill one of the Celestial Realm foreign experts.
As for the extra Noble Realm expert from the Giant Rock Tribe, he was likely staying behind in Giant Tribe City, guarding the pregnant tribeswomen and ensuring the continuation of their bloodline. He likely wouldn’t join the battle—unless the Giant Rock Tribe was nearly wiped out. Then, he would surely appear.
Which meant—the goal now was to kill one of the other Noble Realm experts before the Giant Rock Tribe’s strongest could intervene. That would free up the humans to deal with him if he joined later.
Gu Zuo thought to himself, If only there had been more time. If Wu Zhenhuang could’ve broken through successfully, he would’ve given him a pill to overcome the bottleneck—boosting the human side by another Celestial Realm expert. Still, the Giant Rock Tribe’s top-tier combatants weren’t truly frightening. At his big brother’s side were two Noble Realm warriors as backup. But this was the Eight Desolations City’s battle—and his brother’s trial. If they didn’t have to step in, they wouldn’t. Only if absolutely necessary would they intervene.
Below, the clash between humans and foreign tribes was already reaching a fever pitch.
The humans continued to douse the battlefield with their potion. The massive horde of wild beasts shrank significantly under the relentless barrage. The foreign tribes suffered heavy losses. Yet, even with the potion as protection, there were still moments when it couldn’t be used in time—some warriors still fell in battle.
But where there was hot blood, there was hatred. And once that blood boiled to a certain degree, every warrior was driven to the brink of madness. They fought without fear of death—one hand hurling potion, poisoning all who blocked their path, the other brandishing a weapon to cut down any survivors. Even when their potion finally ran dry, they would throw themselves into the fray, flesh and blood blocking the enemy’s advance, killing whoever they could—one, two, as many as they could drag down with them!
Terrifying. Ruthless. Frenzied.
Human strength may have its limits, but their will did not.
To die dragging down a few enemies with them—this was a belief carved into the very bones and bloodline of Eight Desolations City’s warriors. A belief that said: with the foreign tribes, it’s either us or them. No middle ground.
Hatred made them powerful. Even in death, they could still shatter a foreign tribesman’s fanged jaw with one last blow.
Gu Zuo had no doubt now—this battle would end in a resounding victory for the humans.
No matter how many obstacles lay ahead, no matter how many fierce enemies stood in their way—it wouldn’t change the outcome.
And indeed, things went just as Gu Zuo expected. Under the relentless assault of the warriors, the once-overwhelming beast tide had already been cut down by more than half.
The Blue-Eyed Tribe, in their effort to create such a colossal beast horde, had only managed to control a handful of primordial beasts comparable to the Atomic Realm. These were now being swiftly targeted and eliminated by the deputy commanders of Eight Desolations City.
The remaining beasts were still fierce, but against the warriors armed with poison, they posed no real threat.
For the human warriors, this was undoubtedly the most satisfying, the most exhilarating battle of their lives. In the past, it was always the corpses of humans that piled up in order to bring down the foreign tribes and their beasts. But today, with minimal casualties, they were the ones building mountains of corpses.
Unnoticed, the Blue-Eyed Tribe had already lost over ten thousand people—more than half of whom were awakened blue-eyed tribesmen, whether single-eyed or double-eyed. Their soul-capturing abilities resided entirely within their blue eyes. Once those abilities failed to take effect, they were quickly slain by human warriors of equal strength during that instant of paralysis.
The Giant Rock Tribe had brought over ten thousand tribesmen, yet they fared even worse than the Blue-Eyed Tribe. Now, only a slightly stronger hundred remained. Nearly half their entire tribe had been wiped out. The loss was so devastating that the survivors were left with faces twisted in hatred and hearts drowning in grief. Their status as overlords of the borderlands had collapsed. If things continued this way, they truly faced the risk of complete extinction.
The Demon Wolf Tribe, however, suffered the most.
They had a force of one hundred thousand, but unfortunately, the most human warriors had been assigned to deal with them. Under the relentless attack of the poison, fifty to sixty thousand tribesmen had already perished. The remaining forty to fifty thousand scrambled between gathering and dispersing, but either tactic still resulted in heavy casualties. Only when the number of wild beasts dwindled did they manage to scatter with coordination and fight in a more orderly fashion, avoiding the devastating losses from earlier.
Even so, the tragic state of the Demon Wolf Tribe left them gritting their teeth in anguish. Their hatred toward the humans now reached a historical peak.
The foreign tribes hadn’t suffered a defeat this humiliating in a very long time…
They refused to accept this outcome.
Just as the humans pressed their advantage and continued to slaughter the remaining forces, a sudden surge of overwhelming power erupted from a distant area.
That power shot into the skies, stirring the heavens, bringing with it a terrifying pressure!
It surged across the battlefield—and for a moment, it seemed like every human present was about to freeze in fear. And in that single, stunned instant, the foreign tribes would cut them down!
But then—several more bursts of power suddenly appeared out of thin air, as if a giant hand had torn through the sky. These new forces ripped apart the suffocating pressure, shattering it completely.
The humans remained untouched.
At this moment, Gongyi Tianheng smiled slightly. “They’re here.”
The top powerhouses of both the foreign tribes and the humans—had finally arrived.
