The Blue-Eyed Tribe member was thin and tall, with pale blue skin. His eyes, like those of the ones Gu Zuo had seen in Giant Rock City, were clearly defined between black and white, indicating he had not awakened the blue eyes.

It made sense. If the blue eyes had been awakened, it might have been possible to kill them, but capturing them alive would be difficult. Once their blue eyes’ divine powers were unleashed, even the guards might fall victim at any moment. Even if their eyes were covered, there was no guarantee it would be safe.

Thus, it was very hard to keep the blue eyes members of the Blue-Eyed Tribe alive.

Gu Zuo then turned to look at the other cages. Each one contained a living foreign race, all appearing somewhat frail. It seemed that their treatment in the prison of Eight Desolations City wasn’t very good. In reality, they might have endured various tortures out of hatred, but at least their lives had been spared.

Gu Zuo didn’t mind. As long as they were alive, that was enough for him.

After checking the living specimens, Gu Zuo moved on to the ice coffins.

The bodies in the coffins were more numerous, but none of them were entirely intact. Fortunately, he was using these bodies for research, so their completeness didn’t matter much.

Gu Zuo couldn’t help but feel frustrated. When he had seen the terrible situation of the human race, he had been so furious that he and his big brother rushed to start the fire, forgetting to collect the bodies of the foreign races. Thankfully, there were plenty of bodies in Eight Desolations City, with every level being well represented. Otherwise, he would have regretted it deeply.

After hastily examining the bodies of the Demon Wolf Tribe and Giant Rock Tribe, Gu Zuo approached the Blue-Eyed Tribe’s bodies. This time, he noticed one body that seemed notably different. Compared to the others, it had a strange and alluring aura.

Could it be…

Gu Zuo couldn’t help but ask, “This Blue-Eyed Tribe body, did it awaken the blue eyes while alive?”

The burly man who brought the body showed a surprised expression and then spoke with admiration, “Indeed, this is the body of a Blue-Eyed Tribe member at the Immortal Realm. They had awakened both eyes while alive.”

Gu Zuo was taken aback.

Both eyes!

He had originally thought that even a single eye awakening was hard to achieve…

The burly man continued seriously, “This body was acquired forcibly in a past battle by the top experts of the time. Although the Blue-Eyed Tribe would never allow their awakened blue-eyed member’s body to be taken by the human race, Eight Desolations City was incredibly powerful at that time. The Blue-Eyed Tribe had no choice but to temporarily abandon this body. Afterward, the Blue-Eyed Tribe was never able to gain the upper hand, and the human race and foreign tribes remained in a deadlock. So, the Blue-Eyed Tribe could never demand the body back, and it has remained with us.”

Gu Zuo understood upon hearing this.

So that was the case.

No matter how the Blue-Eyed Tribe thought, as long as he could obtain a body with dual eyes from Eight Desolations City, Gu Zuo believed that after conducting his own research, he would no longer be overly concerned about the Blue-Eyed Tribe’s blue-eye attacks when facing their awakened members in the future. Perhaps he could even create some pills or techniques for Eight Desolations City that would render them immune to the blue-eye attacks. In that case, the Blue-Eyed Tribe, which relied on their blue eyes, would no longer pose a threat to the human race!

With these thoughts, Gu Zuo was almost eager to begin his research. He immediately instructed the burly men to move the bodies and other materials to a nearby secret room. This secret room had been where he had been refining pills recently. After some personal adjustments, it had already begun to take on the appearance of a proper laboratory. With just a few more modifications, it would be easy to use it for further research.

The burly men held Gu Zuo in great esteem and naturally followed his instructions. When they entered the secret room and saw the various setups inside, they were even more in awe of the profession of pharmacist.

Afterward, they quickly left, so as not to disturb the skilled pharmacist, and they eagerly anticipated when Gu Zuo would emerge from his seclusion, bringing new hope to Eight Desolations City!

Indeed, Gu Zuo began his seclusion.

At his request, the iron cages were arranged in order along the wall, starting from the lower realms to the higher ones, as well as by different races. Their gaze was directed straight toward Gu Zuo’s “operating tables.”

There were bodies from the Houtian, Xiantian, Immortal, and Atomic Realms, so there were twelve operating tables in total, each facing the iron cages of the three races and four realms.

Gu Zuo silently glanced at the foreign races and first walked to the four cages of the Giant Rock Tribe. He quickly opened the ice coffin of the Houtian Realm and lifted the body inside, tossing it onto the first operating table.

The body’s face was now facing the cage.

Gu Zuo then gave a sinister smile.

Inside the cage, the Houtian Realm Giant Rock Tribe member showed a grotesque expression, without any hint of fear. Gu Zuo scoffed inwardly, as expected, the Giant Rock Tribe were descendants of primordial beasts, inherently savage, driven only by bloodlust, devoid of emotion. So, Gu Zuo didn’t bother with the their reaction. A small knife appeared in his palm, and his gaze swept from the Giant Rock Tribe member’s neck down to the abdomen. At the same time, the small knife cut along the body on the operating table from the neck to the abdomen, effortlessly opening it up.

In an instant, the intestines were exposed. Gu Zuo’s gaze remained on the Giant Rock Tribe member, and upon seeing this scene, the Houtian Giant Rock Tribe member finally flinched. When he glared again with fierce eyes, the earlier ferocity had completely dissipated.

Gu Zuo snorted coldly, raising the knife once more. He slowly cut through every muscle of the Giant Rock Tribe’s corpse, extracting all the tendons and exposing the white bones within, examining them carefully.

Under the watchful eyes of the foreign races, Gu Zuo’s hands quickly produced a variety of medicinal materials, which he rapidly refined into liquid form. He then applied each one to different parts of the bodies, causing various reactions, which he meticulously recorded in his mind.

Among the numerous reactions, there were corrosion, melting, hardening, softening, and even obvious signs of poisoning, such as a bluish-black tint. The results varied, but most were deeply unsettling, while only a few seemed to trigger some special, beneficial effects.

However, all the favorable results were nearly discarded. Gu Zuo merely made brief notes and let them go, focusing instead on using various medicinal materials to delve deeper into the destructive reactions on the bodies, continuously experimenting…

After some time, the more experienced foreign races’ members were horrified to discover that the concoctions Gu Zuo had made were far too destructive to their kin’s bodies! They could invade in an instant and cause terrifying consequences! Yet, the human pharmacist in their eyes didn’t care in the slightest. Instead, he repeatedly enhanced these terrifying outcomes!

After about a day and a night, the Houtian Realm Giant Rock Tribe body was ultimately reduced to a complete wreck. Every inch of flesh, meridian, bone, and internal organ had been meticulously utilized. By the end, there was nothing left of the body that could still be experimented upon. The body’s final appearance resembled that of someone who had been mutilated with thousands of cuts, their bones shattered.

What the foreign races could see was merely a human-shaped form lying on the operating table… the face unrecognizable, no features remaining.

Such a sight inevitably made them gasp in shock.

At this moment, they recalled that they were the test subjects, and upon remembering all the actions they had just witnessed from Gu Zuo, they couldn’t help but tremble in fear.

Sometimes, death wasn’t the most terrifying thing; what was truly terrifying… was the calm-faced pharmacist, who remained utterly focused on conducting his experiments!

Gu Zuo had achieved his purpose of intimidation.

Of course, he was truly experimenting to make full use of the bodies, but if, during the process, he could provide the foreign races who had harmed the human race with some “interesting sensations,” that was something he was more than willing to do.

After completely “using up” the first Giant Rock Tribe corpse, Gu Zuo turned with great interest to observe the expressions of the foreign races’ members.

Fear, dread, and expressions twisted with pain that they could no longer hold back… Gu Zuo smiled in satisfaction.

Very good, very effective.

Next, Gu Zuo turned around and walked to the second operating table.

Having done so many experiments on the first corpse, he now had a rough idea of what he was doing. Next, he planned to test the twenty-something methods he had summarized on the corpses of higher realms and greater strength, sorting out the useful ones and discarding the ineffective ones.

Thus, the foreign races’ members watched in horror as the human pharmacist began applying his methods to the Xiantian Realm corpse one by one—before each trial, he didn’t forget to cut open the entire body, ensuring all of them could clearly see every reaction!

…He was still continuing to terrorize them.

However, they had no way to resist and could only endure the intimidation.

On the second corpse, Gu Zuo’s experiments were much more methodical. He started with the internal organs and worked his way out, observing each reaction. Some caused slight effects, which needed to be enhanced further, while others showed no effect at all, seemingly reaching their limits—only effective against Houtian Realm Giant Rock Tribe members.

Gu Zuo wasn’t discouraged. He discarded what didn’t work, knowing that such losses were inevitable. Moreover, there were still seventeen or eighteen methods left to try! He could continue experimenting!

So, he unbotheredly abandoned the few ineffective approaches and instead deepened the other ten or so methods that seemed promising.

After reinforcing all the methods, Gu Zuo eliminated the ones with similar effects, leaving only twelve remaining. Each of these twelve methods had impressive results and could be further tested and enhanced in the next stage.

Then, Gu Zuo began dissecting the Giant Rock Tribe corpse of the Immortal Realm.

This time, although there were only twelve methods to try, Gu Zuo still meticulously and thoroughly dissected the entire corpse, just like he had with the previous two.

The foreign races’ members wished they could turn away and not look at the scene before them, but there was an irresistible, almost magnetic pull that compelled them to watch carefully—after all, even though they knew they were doomed, how could they control their fear once they had already grasped how they might die? The more they feared, the more curious they became, unable to resist watching.

It felt like they were experiencing the gradual approach of an unknown, great terror, and their lives were constantly counting down…

So, after conducting experiments on the Immortal Realm corpse, Gu Zuo discovered that eight of the methods affected this realm, requiring further enhancement, while four others were discarded.

Next, Gu Zuo again tested the methods on the Giant Rock Tribe corpse of the Atomic Realm. As before, he completely dissected it and experimented with the enhanced versions of the eight methods. This time, he found that only three of the methods were effective on this corpse… so these three were further strengthened.

Ultimately, the three types of medicine were the ones Gu Zuo would use to threaten the Giant Rock Tribe.

Under the effect of these three medicines, members of the Giant Rock Tribe in the Atomic Realm would instantly lose their combat ability in various ways, those in the Immortal Realm would die on the spot, and even those in the Houtian and Xiantian Realms would dissolve into water with just the slightest touch.

The positive aspect was that once these medicines were deployed, the Giant Rock Tribe would suffer massive casualties. The downside was that the corpses of those in the two lowest realms would vanish, resulting in a loss of valuable materials.

Naturally, Gu Zuo felt there was no need to improve them any further.

Although the corpses of the Giant Rock Tribe from these two lower realms had some use, it was clearly not significant. Besides, most of the low-level Giant Rock Tribe had already been wiped out. What else was there to care about? Although the Giant Rock Tribe was preparing to reproduce, whether they lived or died no longer mattered. They would all eventually die anyway; it was simply a matter of wasting a little more medicine.

Gu Zuo looked at the three types of medicine, feeling quite pleased.

They could all be refined into easily portable pills, and once on the battlefield, he could quickly mix them with water in the right proportions and create numerous “bombs.” They would certainly be reliable, powerful weapons!

Next, Gu Zuo focused on refining a significant amount of these three types of pills. Satisfied, he stored them away and placed them directly in front of the four Giant Rock Tribe members of different realms.

He wanted these tribesmen to stare at the poisons that posed a great threat to them, constantly wondering when they would become test subjects themselves—then, bit by bit, they would walk toward death in fear!

Feeling quite pleased with himself, Gu Zuo glanced at the expressions of the Giant Rock Tribe members before heading over to the second batch of operating tables—the four members of the Demon Wolf Tribe.

Indeed, Gu Zuo had just dissected the Giant Rock Tribe corpses, but the Demon Wolf Tribe members had witnessed everything as well. At this moment, there was also a trace of fear in their eyes.

It was their tribe’s turn now.

Gu Zuo didn’t disappoint them in the slightest. He walked to the Houtian Realm Demon Wolf corpse, rolled up his sleeves, and began carefully cutting it open with his blade. Meanwhile, he muttered to himself, “I need to find out what allows the Demon Wolf Tribe to undergo wolf transformation and what triggers that transformation… Hmm, I’ll try testing it on the live subjects later.”

The Demon Wolf Tribe members: “…”

Suddenly, a strong sense of foreboding overwhelmed them.

When dealing with the Demon Wolf Tribe, Gu Zuo acted no differently than he had with the Giant Rock Tribe. He first dissected the body into thin layers, then methodically tested various substances on each layer to observe their effects. He identified those with the greatest impact, discarded those with similar effects, and systematically progressed from low to high realms. Eventually, he isolated the most potent substances that worked best on the Demon Wolf Tribe—ones with maximum lethality. He also considered the availability of the ingredients during this process.

The Demon Wolf Tribe quickly found themselves sharing the same despair as the Giant Rock Tribe.

It’s common for people to feel a pang of sympathy when they witness others suffering terribly. Even if they empathized, the pain still felt somewhat distant. But when the suffering fell upon their own kind—especially those who looked just like them—that empathy turned into something far more visceral. It was no longer just feeling sorry for others; it was as though they themselves were the ones being tormented.

The Demon Wolf Tribe members now felt as though their bodies had been swapped with the corpse on the table. Even though they hadn’t been physically cut open, they could feel the pain searing through their entire being.

Because of this, the Demon Wolf Tribe’s fear deepened to the same level as the Giant Rock Tribe’s. Their hearts pounded violently, and many were left feeling utterly crushed, their spirits sinking into despair.

In the end, Gu Zuo identified four effective medicines for dealing with the Demon Wolf Tribe. Two could be freely scattered, while the remaining two acted as enhancers for the first pair—if a Demon Wolf Tribe member transformed under the effect of the first medicine, applying the second would instantly double, or even triple, its potency during the transformation.

Finally, Gu Zuo arrived at the race he was most eager yet most troubled to deal with.

The Blue-Eyed Tribe. The difference between those who had awakened their blue eyes and those who hadn’t, as well as the distinction between single-eyed and double-eyed individuals—these subtle differences required careful study before he could form any solid theories to test.

Thinking of this, Gu Zuo couldn’t help but feel a hint of regret.

If only he had one or two awakened blue eye test subjects… But for now, his methods for dealing with single- and double-eyed Blue-Eyed Tribe members could only rely on guesses drawn from studying the lone double-eyed corpse. While his theories were usually accurate, untested conclusions could never be entirely certain. Unfortunately, this was a regret he would have to accept.

Pushing aside his lingering thoughts, Gu Zuo decided to start with the ordinary ones first.

He continued dissecting and experimenting as before, and his research on ordinary members of the Blue-Eyed Tribe progressed smoothly. Their internal structure differed from that of the Demon Wolf Tribe and the Giant Rock Tribe; instead, it was more similar to that of humans.

The Demon Wolf Tribe, like the Giant Rock Tribe, were born from the union of primordial beasts and other races. The Giant Rock Tribe resulted from a union with humans, while the Demon Wolf Tribe came from the union of primordial wolves and the Ku Shan Tribe.

The Ku Shan Tribe was also an foreign race, but unlike hybrids born from intermarriage between different tribes, they were an ancient ancestral race. They resembled humans and were naturally gifted in communicating with wild beasts. Over time, they were gradually forgotten by history. However, their openness to bonding with wild beasts and primordial beasts resulted in their descendants — children born from unions with these beasts — developing unique traits. Through a process of natural selection, several new tribes with beast-taming abilities emerged. Among them, the Demon Wolf Tribe was the result of their union with primordial wolves, which manifested in their ability to transform into wolves and control wild wolves after awakening.

The Blue-Eyed Tribe was quite unique. They originated from intermarriage between humanoid ancestral races in ancient times. One side of their ancestry belonged to the Duo Mu Tribe, while the other side varied across different species. Regardless of the combinations, the Duo Mu Tribe’s bloodline proved dominant, ultimately shaping the Blue-Eyed Tribe’s distinctive appearance.

As for why their internal structure resembled that of humans… this likely tied to the fact that many races naturally evolved into humanoid forms, as it was the most adaptable for cultivating martial arts. It was a matter of natural selection.

Gu Zuo remained cautious, but after extensive testing, he discovered that ordinary, non-awakened Blue-Eyed Tribe members reacted to medicines much like humans did. The only difference was that, within the same realm, they required slightly higher concentrations of the medicine. Overall, the impact was minimal. The same medicines that harmed humans would affect the Blue-Eyed Tribe similarly; minor adjustments to the formulas would suffice.

However, the corpse of the Blue-Eyed tribesman who had awakened his eyes underwent a very peculiar transformation. The blood in this body was blue, unlike the typical crimson blood shared by both humans and ordinary Blue-Eyed Tribe members.

Moreover, the blue blood seemed to shimmer faintly with golden sand-like specks. Prolonged observation even induced a mild sense of dizziness.

This time, Gu Zuo dared not recklessly carve the corpse to pieces — there was no replacement for this rare specimen, making it a precious resource that had to be handled with care. As a result, his progress slowed as he meticulously cut off small samples of flesh, tendons, and bones to test their reactions with various medicines before considering larger-scale experiments.

Of course, Gu Zuo had a clear strategy in mind.

From his study of the Demon Wolf Tribe, he had found that their ability to transform into wolves was linked to a hereditary substance present in their blood. This substance triggered their wolf transformation. Therefore, it stood to reason that the Blue-Eyed Tribe’s awakening might also be connected to their blood — particularly to the substance tied to their inheritance.

The Blue-Eyed Tribe’s power lay in their eyes, which exerted a soul-capturing effect through psychic energy. Thus, the most effective test materials would be those that acted upon psychic energy as well.

To be honest, Gu Zuo hadn’t found much challenge in researching the previous two tribes, but now, faced with the Blue-Eyed Tribe, he finally felt a surge of excitement.

Immersed in his research, Gu Zuo gradually forgot his habit of intimidating the other tribes at every opportunity. Instead, he became deeply engrossed, unaware of what was happening outside.

The captured tribesmen were secretly relieved to no longer be subjected to Gu Zuo’s unsettling gaze. They remained obedient and quiet, never daring to disturb him — after all, if this human pharmacist were startled, he might just set aside his current work and turn them into his next batch of test subjects.

Even if they were terrified, they still wanted to survive a few more days.
