Chapter 598 - 597: The Giant Dragon’s Long Sword
Chapter 598: Chapter 597: The Giant Dragon’s Long Sword
"Why are the two of you at my front door? And why in the world did you smash it in?!" Colin said, glancing over at his wooden door.
To be honest, the only thing stopping him from cursing them out was a sliver of self-control he liked to call "a Mage’s decorum."
The top hinge of the wooden door had been torn from the frame, and the door was now leaning against it like an unlucky soul who’d had a leg chopped off.
"Er... sorry about that, Colin," Donkexes chuckled awkwardly. "We mainly came to deliver the finished Dragonbone Longsword. Orelia hasn’t been by to train with us recently, and we have no idea where Kase has run off to, so we asked Dorn and tracked you down."
"Then we heard some strange noises coming from inside the room, and I thought you were getting robbed," Langgrin said with a cheeky grin. "Good thing it wasn’t a pickpocket, though."
"Instead, two Dwarf bandits popped out," Colin said.
"Don’t be angry, Colin," Donkexes said, nudging Langgrin. Langgrin, in turn, pulled a Giant Sword from his back that was nearly as tall as he was—almost five feet long.
Seeing this, Colin found his annoyance fading.
It was hard to say if it was because he saw the Giant Sword, or the Dwarf who was about as tall as it.
The Giant Sword was housed in a scabbard wrapped in black leather.
The Sword Guard was polished from dragon bone, shaped like a pair of unfurled dragon wings, with the prominent wingtips curving toward the blade. The hilt was wrapped in gleaming black leather.
"Alright, draw it," Langgrin said, presenting the hilt.
Colin grasped the hilt and gently drew the blade.
The body of the Giant Sword was completely transformed.
The blade had a classic Damascus dragon-scale pattern, its sharpened edge flashing with a deadly cold light. A white line ran down the spine of the blade, which appeared to be part of the dragon bone.
The sword felt incredibly comfortable in his hand, and its balance was significantly better than even Burning Blood, giving it the responsiveness of an extension of his own arm.
Colin narrowed his eyes and sighted down the blade from the hilt.
[Dragonbone Giant Sword / Rare-Level Magic Weapon]
[Damage: 7-17]
[Green Dragon Bone: +2 to Damage and hit.]
[Green Dragon Poison: A creature damaged by this sword takes an additional 1-4 poison damage and its Constitution is reduced by 1-4. The effect lasts for one minute and does not stack. The enemy has a chance to resist the poison’s effects based on their Constitution.]
Colin looked at the weapon in his hands, unable to put it down.
’So this is a Rare-Level Magic Weapon,’ he thought. ’It’s more a work of art than a weapon.’
"So this is the Long Sword made from Green Dragon Bone?" Ale asked, coming over for a look.
She frowned slightly, and though she seemed a little unhappy, she still said, "Congratulations, Colin."
"We know the kind of effect your Hand Half Sword has, so we specifically modified this Giant Sword. Its effects are better suited for sustained combat."
Langgrin continued, talking a mile a minute, "We used Mithril to reduce the weight a bit, which also helps activate the residual poison in the Green Dragon Bone and makes sure it’s always active."
"That was my idea," Donkexes chimed in from the side.
"Also, the poison on the blade is similar to ’Gentian Juice.’ That kind of potent poison sells for a fortune on the black market, so I saved you a ton of money," Langgrin said, shoving Donkexes aside and puffing out his chest to boast in front of Colin.
Colin asked the most crucial question: "So how much is all this going to cost?"
"Probably..." Donkexes said, "around a thousand Gold Coins. We promised you a discount of a few hundred Gold Coins a while back, and the Weston Clan gave us a discount on the materials, so we were able to get the cost down this low."
"What if I give you the Elf Giant Sword I was using before?"
Colin did some quick math.
’If I do that, I’ll have just over fourteen hundred Gold Coins left.’
"That’ll cover a hundred Gold Coins," Donkexes said.
"Let’s do that, then." Colin knew the price they were offering was more than fair.
He turned, walked to his bed, and pulled a few gold bars and the Elf Giant Sword from under his mattress, handing them over.
To be honest, Colin felt a pang of reluctance as he handed over the old thing. It was, after all, his first Magic Weapon, the one that had seen him through so many life-or-death battles.
Besides, unlike that Muscle Plate Armor, this weapon actually looked normal.
At that thought, Colin turned back to rummage through his savings again.
At the same time, he said to the Dwarves, "Forget it. I’ll pay the full price. I’ll keep this sword as a memento."
As Donkexes took the money, Colin asked, "By the way, have you accepted the Weston Clan’s sponsorship?"
"That’s right. We wouldn’t have even come to the city otherwise." Donkexes sounded a little angry as he brought it up. "Those short-sighted guilds are infuriating. Just the sight of them is disgusting."
"Well, that’s good news, I suppose," Colin remarked, then pried a little further. "So when does your official expedition begin?"
"It’ll probably be a while," Donkexes said.
Langgrin cut in, "We’ve given you the sword, so we should be heading back, Colin."
"You’re not going to stay for a bit?" Colin offered politely.
"Alright then, got any beer?" Langgrin said, changing his tune. He glanced at Colin’s expression and let out a few loud laughs before adding, "I’m just kidding. It’s about time for dinner. Want to go together?"
"Let’s go to the Black Heart Tavern then. Don’t worry, Old Black Heart and I go way back; he won’t water down the beer." Colin glanced at Ale, who was standing not far away, and added, "By the way, Ale, could you help fix my door?"

「A few days after the guild banquet, in an alley in the Dock District.」
The Imp Ham sat on his master’s shoulder, watching the three men before him with utter boredom.
His master was a scrawny man in a black Magic Robe, an idiot who’d signed a pact with a Demon.
’Meanwhile,’ Ham was plotting, ’I could just silently turn my master into a soul coin for my own pocket before the boss makes a move. That way, the idiot might actually be worth something.’
The burly man standing opposite them spoke up. "So, the Adventurer will definitely pass through here, right?"
The burly man wore an overcoat with a Shield strapped to his arm. He was the squad’s vanguard, and Ham had always thought, ’This guy isn’t too bright.’
"We’ve been watching for days," one of the other men said. "The guy’s habits are consistent. He goes for a wrap every morning, and he’s usually with a very beautiful Half-Elf."
"I swear," the last man added, "that Half-Elf is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life."
The other two men said, one after the other.
