Chapter 577: Chapter 576: Magic Combo

The Ghost’s blade struck the weak of the Elf Giant Sword’s blade.

’Not only was its magical proficiency high, but judging by its control of distance, this thing was also a skilled swordsman.’

Colin frowned, putting force into his wrist.

The creature’s Power wasn’t overwhelming, and he parried its Long Sword.

He could clearly see the two blades "sink" into one another, as if they were melting together.

Just as Colin prepared to lunge forward and stab his opponent, a transparent Shield suddenly materialized at the tip of his blade.

A Repulsive Force traveled up the blade to his palm, and the momentum of his thrusting Giant Sword faltered.

The Ghost, having just cast Shield, stabbed out at the same time, hitting Colin square in the chest. It then jumped back, dodging the Elf Giant Sword as it continued its thrust.

The moment the blade struck, Colin clearly heard a soft DING.

He then felt a tightness in his chest.

An indescribable, numbing pain spread from the point of impact, as if that part of his body had suffered severe frostbite.

Although the Ghost appeared to be wearing all sorts of gear, the equipment was essentially a projection of its memories from life.

This was also why attacking a Ghost with an Ordinary weapon was largely ineffective, and why using Armor and weapons to defend against its attacks was so difficult.

After all, Ghosts lacked a Spiritual Body; they could even pass straight through walls if they so chose.

Of course, the Magic Equipment Colin wielded was far more effective than ordinary gear. At the very least, the Ghost’s attacks couldn’t pass straight through it.

Just then, Kase charged in from behind the creature.

He raised his Giant Axe and swung it down at his opponent. The massive Axe Blade split the air with a terrifying WHOOSH.

The Ghost dodged to the side and cast Shield again.

This time, Colin was prepared and cast Counterspell, dispelling the Magic.

Kase’s Axe struck heavily on the Ghost’s shoulder, but the Battle Axe couldn’t sever its Spiritual Body. The Axe Blade slid right down its shoulder, toward where Ale was.

The Ghost raised a hand, slamming its pommel onto the flat of the axe and effectively turning the massive Battle Axe into a Shield. Ale, who had drawn her Enchanted Armed Sword, was forced to slow her advance.

CLANG!

The Axe Blade struck the ground.

A ball of Flame instantly ignited on the blade in the Ghost’s hand.

It stepped onto the back of the Giant Axe and slashed Kase across the waist.

The Flame on the sword flared, detaching from the blade to become a fireball that struck Colin square in the chest—an attack he recognized as Emerald Flame Sword.

He barely felt the attack, though; most of the impact and heat were absorbed by his Armor.

At the same time, Colin felt a clear pulse of golden light radiate from behind him.

The golden light washed over them. Black "dust" began to seep out from around the party members, only to be enveloped by the light and dissipate into nothing. Colin heard the scrape of his own armor.

It was Orelia’s Tier Three Divine Skill, Dispel Magic.

Seeing her chance, Ale quickly retreated and began Casting.

Kase, meanwhile, yanked his Giant Axe free. Planting a hand on the back of the axe head, he levered the blade up and swung it at his opponent.

Colin held his breath, and Silver Light Sharp Words took effect instantly.

As he drew the Ghost’s attention, he hopped back and began casting Hideous Laughter again.

’So much Magic is being cast at once,’ he thought. ’Let’s see which one you choose to counter!’

Just as he thought this, Colin spoke the final syllable of the Spell along the length of his blade. But then, that familiar sensation washed over him—Counterspell had snuffed out his Magic once again.

While under the effects of one spell and casting a Counterspell for another, the Ghost had no focus left to dodge the attack.

WHOOSH!

Kase smashed his axe into the creature’s back.

The strike didn’t produce the crisp clang of metal on metal, but rather a strange rush of wind.

The moment the Axe struck, the frost on its blade visibly seeped into the Ghost’s body, sending it flying.

At the same time, a golden bolt of light shot in from the distance.

Orelia’s Guiding Bolt struck the Ghost square in the chest. Divine energy exploded outward, and the scattering motes of light slowly coalesced on the Ghost’s abdomen.

Three more golden rays then shot from the tip of Ale’s Magic Staff. One went wide, but the other two shattered the motes of light and struck the Ghost’s body in succession.

At that moment, a short figure materialized behind the Ghost.

Dorn had seized the perfect moment to attack.

A Spiritual Dagger and a Precise Dagger struck simultaneously. With a flash of cold light, the blades of both Daggers plunged deep into the Ghost’s Spiritual Body.

His surprise attack successful, Dorn leaped back several paces, dodging the Long Sword that the Ghost swung as it rose.

"This year’s apprentices are so strange... Why is that?"

The Ghost muttered to itself as it climbed up from the ground.

The words had barely faded when several spectral blue figures appeared in the doorway on the far side of the room. They looked to be other Ghosts or similar monsters.

Ale, who was standing nearby, reacted instantly and began Spellcasting.

This time, as she was Casting, Colin could feel the Magic Net around her humming with far more activity than before. This scale of activity was clearly not for a Tier Three Magic—it was a Tier Four Magic!

As she chanted the Spell, Ale raised the Magic Staff in her hand and pointed it toward the distant doorway.

The next moment, innumerable golden sparks, like a field of stars, materialized in the air. The sparks rapidly converged into small flames, which in turn merged together to become a furiously burning golden wall of fire.

Tier Four Magic, Wall of Fire.

The Wall of Fire completely sealed the doorway, cutting off the reinforcing Ghosts.

At the same time, the surrounding Magic Net reacted violently.

Colin could clearly feel the strands of the Magic Net rapidly weaving together. He knew at a glance that Magic on this scale was beyond his ability to counter.

Bursts of deep blue Spiritual Light flared, taking on a twisted, fractured form. He could faintly see the light itself trembling.

"It’s a spell from the Curse Magic System! It’s probably trying to Teleport away!" Colin shouted loudly.

Yet in the next instant, countless visible torrents of wind erupted around the Ghost.

As the gale swept past, it left slashes across the stone-tiled floor, as if cut by a blade...

Colin suddenly felt a chill crawl up his spine to the nape of his neck.

SHLICK!

Suddenly, the sound of a blade sinking into flesh reached his ears.

An unbearable pain suddenly shot through Colin’s right leg. He looked down to see a gash, deep enough to expose bone, had appeared above his knee.
