I Have a Task Log
Chapter 571 - 570: The Skeleton Front Line
Chapter 571: Chapter 570: The Skeleton Front Line
The moment he saw the creature, Colin felt the hairs on his arms stand on end as an unpleasant memory surfaced.
"Colin, watch out!" Kase yelled from his position blocking the doorway. He then charged the Skeletons that had broken free from the Web spell, striking their flank.
The instant the web was torn open, a crimson speck of light drifted to the Skeleton Centurion’s feet.
The speck of light instantly swelled into a massive fireball, igniting the surrounding webbing and bathing the entire hall in a flash of orange-yellow light.
But in the next instant, the fiery light was torn apart.
Three Skeletons wearing Muscle Chest Armor and holding Short Swords rushed out. The armor on these Skeletons had darkened a bit, and a few cracks had appeared on their bones, but they could still move.
According to the structure of the Ancient Empire’s military, they must have been the Centurion, Vice Centurion, and Standard Bearer of this hundred-man unit.
Colin glanced at the Short Sword in the Centurion’s hand and suddenly had an idea...
He flipped open his Spellbook and began casting Enlarge Person on himself.
As Colin was chanting the Spell, a silver light flashed in the distance. Dorn used his Spiritual Energy to fly into the midst of the remaining Skeletons on the right. Seeing someone charge them, the mindless Skeletons immediately swarmed him, Long Spears leveled.
Several Long Spears lunged toward the Gray Dwarf.
Dorn held the Precise Dagger in one hand, while a Spiritual Dagger materialized in the other.
The two daggers spun in his hands, their blades a silver blur. For an instant, it was as if two silver roses had blossomed. Sparks flew from the tips of the incoming Long Spears as he deflected them with just the right amount of force.
Dorn was already much smaller than a normal person, and with his masterful parries, the clumsy Skeletons couldn’t lay a finger on him.
Meanwhile, Colin clearly saw the Mind Dagger in Dorn’s hand glow brightly, gradually splitting into numerous smaller Mind Daggers.
The dagger instantly shattered, its fragments embedding themselves in the skulls of the Skeletons surrounding Dorn. The Skeletons it struck instantly collapsed into piles of bone.
Before Dorn could even wipe the blood from his nose, several more Skeletons closed in on him.
Because they lack fully independent minds, Skeletons are immune to spells with charm effects. However, since they are essentially animated by soul fragments, they are still vulnerable to Mind Damage, which directly attacks the soul.
Just then, Colin’s spell was complete.
He felt goosebumps erupt all over his body as a warmth spread across every inch of his skin, as if he were soaking in a hot bath.
Immediately after, a continuous series of soft POPS and CRACKS echoed from his bones. Colin’s perspective shot upward, and a wave of dizziness and nausea washed over him. He quickly resumed chanting, using the incantation to stabilize his sense of balance.
The final syllable was uttered.
Colin’s body, along with his equipment, doubled in size. Even Kase in the distance was much shorter than him now.
According to the spell’s description, he was now a small giant, three-point-six meters tall.
Colin strode over to stand in front of Ale and Orelia.
He could feel that moving in this state was no different from normal; it was surprisingly easy to get used to.
The horde of Skeletons that had poured from the stone door on the left followed close behind their Centurion, charging relentlessly toward their enemies.
At this, Orelia stepped forward, holding her Holy Emblem high.
The moment Colin saw her move, he understood the Tiefling’s intention and silently moved to stand behind her.
Standing at the rear, Ale raised her Magic Staff and cast another spell.
Under the effect of Cautious Spellcasting, a three-meter-high wave swept past Colin and Orelia. To them, it felt like nothing more than a passing breeze, but to the Skeletons, that massive wave was like a giant hammer that instantly crushed their battle line.
As the water surged, the Skeletons’ bones CLATTERED and fell apart, scattering across the ground.
However, even though a gap was torn in the middle of their line, other Skeletons quickly surged forward to fill the breach.
The Skeletons were about to reach Orelia.
The Tiefling raised her Holy Emblem high and roared, "Begone! In the face of the rising sun, decay shall find no shelter!"
A transparent shockwave radiated out from the Holy Emblem in her hand. Every Skeleton that touched the wave stopped dead in its tracks, then scrambled and crawled away, desperate to get away from Orelia.
Channel Divinity: Turn Undead
Most deities in the world possess power effective against Undead Creatures.
Priests who worship good deities can use Divine Power to create a Holy Impact that stuns and repels Undead Creatures, while followers of evil deities can draw upon negative energy to dominate the dead instead.
Just then, the Magic Staff in Ale’s hand once again burst with a silvery-white light.
Another massive wave materialized before her, tearing the Skeletons’ battle line apart a second time. Under the spell’s onslaught, countless Skeletons were shattered into fragments of bone that littered the ground.
CRASH!
The lead Centurion burst through the receding tide, charging forward with the other two elite Skeletons.
’They took that much Magic and they’re still not down?’
Colin planted his feet and began to chant the Spell for Radiant Sword. Pale golden light gathered from all around, coalescing on the blade of his sword.
At the same time, he focused all his strength into his grip on the sword. Aided by his two Specialties, Cleave and Power Attack, this strike was far more powerful than any of his normal swings.
The moment his opponent entered attack range, Colin swung his Giant Sword at the charging Centurion.
The several-meter-long Elf Giant Sword versus a fifty-odd-centimeter Short Sword was a completely one-sided matchup. The Centurion could only watch helplessly as the massive, golden-glowing blade swung down at it.
The Giant Sword struck the Centurion’s shoulder, instantly splitting its body apart.
Without losing momentum, the blade swept on, crushing the Vice Centurion and the Standard Bearer in turn. And just like that, the three elite Skeletons, already heavily wounded by Magic, were wiped out by that single strike.
’Looks like the spells had already beaten them down to their last sliver of unlife,’ Colin thought.
Just then, Ale began Spellcasting again.
Three Scorching Rays shot out, blasting the last three still-moving Skeletons to pieces, while Kase swung his Axe to shatter the last Skeleton Scout.
The hall suddenly fell silent.
Colin glanced back to see Dorn standing amidst a pile of bone fragments, wiping his nose. It seemed things were settled on his end, too.
"Anything else?" Kase slung his Battle Axe over his shoulder.
"I think that’s all of them," Colin said, his voice noticeably deeper and rougher.
Orelia smiled, putting away her Holy Emblem. "The last time we faced this many Skeletons, we needed Mr. Kase’s grandfather to help us. Now, we can handle it on our own, and without anyone getting seriously hurt."
Colin was about to step back to survey the area, but as he moved, Dorn’s irritated voice piped up from somewhere around his shins. "Hey, Colin! You’re about to step on me! Get rid of this spell already!"
