Chapter 553: Chapter 552: Silent Slaughter

CRACK!

The iron-banded, solid wood door was useless against the Half-Orc. With a single elbow strike, he shattered it as if it were a sheet of thin paper. And at that exact moment, the prayer on Orelia’s lips came to an end.

"...Silent as the dawn, wash away the darkness!"

The instant her voice fell, Colin and Kase, who were already sprinting at full speed, burst into the room.

Colin felt as if all sound had been instantly stripped away, leaving only a faint ringing in his ears.

A transparent Force Field had enveloped the entire bedroom, siphoning away every sound within. The room was now a zone of absolute silence.

Colin took in the scene in an instant.

The bedroom was quite spacious.

Inside was a large, solid wood bed with curtains, a locked wooden chest at its foot, and an overturned screen in the corner. Behind the screen was a bathtub.

Three lavishly dressed people were bound and thrown in another corner of the room, near the fireplace.

They were a man, a woman, and a little girl—likely the three members of the Levin Clan. The little girl looked particularly familiar, but Colin had no time to dwell on that now.

Seven masked thugs were also in the bedroom.

The one who had been standing outside the door was now lying on the ground.

There were no wounds on his body, but his eyes were already growing cloudy.

It seemed his consciousness had been completely destroyed by that potent Mind Spear from before. He was no different from a dead man now.

Of the seven remaining thugs, four wore Studded Leather Armor and held Short Swords and Giant Crossbows. They didn’t look like anything special.

Among the other three were a man dressed as a Caster, a Shield Guard in a Chain Armor Shirt, and a Half-Orc wielding a Giant Axe.

The Caster was opening and closing his mouth, but within the Silence, he couldn’t make a single sound.

Furthermore, the Silence enveloped nearly the entire bedroom. It was impossible for the man to recite a Spell, unless he took out Colin and Kase and rushed out the door.

Colin adjusted his footing and charged straight for the Caster.

He felt a series of faint impacts against his body; it seemed the surrounding thugs were firing Crossbow Arrows at him.

But because of the Silence, Colin was neither injured nor could he hear the impacts, so he barely felt a thing.

The Shield Guard and the Half-Orc inside the room grabbed their weapons and charged forward.

Like Kase, the Half-Orc let out a silent roar within the Silence. His whole body turned a shade redder, veins popping on his skin. It looked like he had entered a Frenzy.

Kase, also in a state of Frenzy, rushed in front of Colin.

He didn’t draw a weapon. Spreading his arms wide and holding them steady, he charged straight at the two opponents.

Colin, having entered a Sword Dance, swung his blade.

The Spell required for Silver Light Sharp Words was quite simple and was instantly completed by the swing of Colin’s blade. A Magic Radiance flew from the Half-Orc’s brow and precisely attached itself to Kase.

Colin stood his ground and began Spellcasting at the other Shield Guard.

The Shield Guard, who had been about to stab Kase with the Armed Sword in his hand, convulsed. He began to laugh hysterically while rooted to the spot. In the soundless void of the Silence, the sight was utterly bizarre.

The Caster at the back of the group stared intently at Colin, his mouth hanging slightly open as if he’d just seen a ghost.

Of course, you couldn’t blame him for his lack of professionalism.

A man in Full Plate Armor Casting a Spell that required chanting inside a Silence effect... anyone with a lick of sense about Magic would have the same expression.

Kase charged straight at his opponents, arms outstretched.

The Half-Orc’s Giant Axe struck him in the chest, but it didn’t slow his advance in the slightest.

Both were in a state of Frenzy, but Kase was clearly far superior in Power.

The crooks of Kase’s arms slammed precisely into the necks of the Shield Guard and the Half-Orc. In that instant, the dust and sweat on their bodies vaporized into a white mist, making it look as though their very souls had been knocked out of them.

The two of them were no match for Kase’s Power. That one Vajra Arm strike sent them reeling backward to the ground.

While mentally telling Dorn, ’Have Kase fall back,’ Colin found the perfect angle.

The moment Kase fell back behind him, Colin focused his will. He began to contract his Chest Armor and abdominal plating, compressing the underlying blood vessels between the two Armor Plates and forcing the naturally formed energy within to surge outward.

Colin felt a chill travel from his chest up to his neck, then spread to his cheeks before erupting from the edges of his Charell Helmet and the gaps in his Throat Protector.

The surging death-frost enveloped the two men on the ground and the helpless Caster standing behind them.

Ice crept slowly up from the ground and onto their bodies like fast-growing ivy on a wall. Their forms were soon encased in a shell of ice, leaving them motionless as ice sculptures.

Colin glanced back at the other thugs.

Three of the other four were already on the ground. The last one was desperately swinging his Short Sword at the Dwarf in front of him.

Dorn wielded his Precise Dagger. Every time his opponent swung, Dorn would lash out with his own dagger, precisely striking the man’s blade to parry the incoming Short Sword. The thug couldn’t even touch the hem of his clothes, no matter how hard he tried.

The next moment, a golden light shot in from the doorway.

A Guiding Bolt struck the thug square in the back. The scattered light reconverged into a glowing point between his eyebrows.

Dorn raised his right hand, and a silvery point of light condensed between his fingers into a Spiritual Dagger.

With a flick of his arm, the Spiritual Dagger passed through the golden light and sank into the thug’s brow.

Under the impact of the Spiritual Energy, the man’s attack faltered.

Dorn lunged forward, thrusting his dagger into his opponent’s throat and finishing off the last of them.

The sound-dampening Force Field slowly dissipated into the air, and Orelia, Shield raised, walked slowly into the bedroom.

She blinked and said, "There aren’t any other enemies, are there?"

"Nope," Colin said, looking at Dorn. "You finished them off pretty quickly."

"Remember that move I used to take out all those Fishmen at once when we were underwater? That move is actually one of the abilities of a Soul Blade Master, but my mind wasn’t strong enough to use it back then." Dorn raised his right hand, twirling the Dagger he held between his fingers. "But I’m slowly getting the hang of it now."

As soon as he finished speaking, a trickle of blood ran from his nostril and disappeared into his salt-and-pepper beard.
