I Have a Task Log
Chapter 534 - 533: Obtaining Magic
Chapter 534: Chapter 533: Obtaining Magic
Colin asked, "So how many Magic Items can you make?"
"The Aboleth’s brain and three eyeballs can be made into two Magic Items, and its slime can be used to create some [Underwater Breathing Potions]," Langgrin said.
Colin quickly did the math.
If Donkexes and his group passed on their share of the loot, that was equivalent to seven hundred Gold Coins. Adding the two hundred Gold Coins per person Durkin had just promised, the total reward for the task came to seventeen hundred Gold Coins.
On top of that, he’d also get two Magic Items and some [Underwater Breathing Potions] for free.
’All in all, that’s a pretty good deal.’
Just as Colin was about to agree, Donkexes pointed out, "Durkin, this Aboleth’s brain is damaged."
"Is that so?" Durkin stroked his beard. "I recall you also commissioned some equipment made from Dragon Species materials. We can give you another discount of Several Hundred Gold Coins on each piece."
"Another?" Colin caught the word.
"Normally, the crafting fee for your Plate Armor would have been close to two thousand Gold Coins," Langgrin said.
"Well, I hope you’ll mention the discount beforehand next time." Colin sighed. "At the very least, let me know what’s going on."
"We weren’t trying to make a big show of it." Langgrin crossed his arms. "The materials you gave us got us through our hardest time. This is a Dwarf’s way of saying thanks."
"Fair enough." Colin nodded.
’So the total reward for this task comes out to over two thousand Gold Coins, plus some [Underwater Breathing Potions] and one Magic Item. That’s more in line with what an Aboleth is worth.’
"I’m glad you were able to reach an agreement," Selan interjected. "We will return to our reef for now. We’ll send someone over later to sort through the Kuo-toa’s spoils. Farewell, warriors."
Durkin gave a slight, noble-like nod to show his respect. "The Shadow Anvil Clan will remember the helping hand you extended today, Fishman Leader."
"Perhaps we can establish a deeper connection in the future. We will need your iron weapons, and we can offer pearls and food in exchange."
Selan mimicked the Dwarf’s slight nod. "It seems you still need some time to set up your camp. We can discuss these miscellaneous matters later. I trust our friendship will last for a long time."
"I look forward to working with you," Durkin said.
Afterward, the Fishman Warriors turned and left without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Colin and the others began moving the spoils down to the Dwarf stronghold below. Along the way, the group also dealt with the dead Chuul, whose only useful parts were their pincers and carapaces.
However, these materials were too heavy and had poor magical affinity, so they couldn’t be made into any particularly useful Magic Equipment. At best, they could be polished and used as an Ordinary guillotine blade or some other tool.
Colin and his group didn’t need to worry about such things.
They brought Dorn through a walkway inside a reservoir and arrived once again at the Dwarf Temple on the level below. There, they found a tent and began to rest, tend to their wounds, and repair their damaged equipment.
The ones most seriously injured this time were Kase, Dorn, and Orelia.
After the Aboleth had slammed Colin to the bottom of the water, it had focused all of its attacks on Orelia. Kase was hit several times while protecting her.
These days, even slightly more intelligent monsters knew to attack the healer first. This made Kase’s ability to disrupt enemy attacks all the more crucial.
After mentally reviewing the recent battle, Colin looked at his Task Log.

[Commission: Assist the Dwarves]
[Rating: 12 (City-State Hero)]
[Reward: 400 Skill Level points, Specialty "Disease Resistance," Tier Four Magic "Mind Spear"]
-----------------
This quest had been a bit more difficult than the one against the White Dragon. However, last time Colin had faced it alone, whereas now he had two powerful allies in Donkexes and Langgrin.
Colin looked at the new Specialty he had acquired.
[Disease Resistance]: You are more resistant to the effects of diseases.
The Specialty’s description was so simple it was summed up in a single sentence. ℯℯ𝘭.
Colin sighed. ’It’s most likely because of the diseases the Aboleth carries. It would have been great to get this Specialty before the fight started, but in that case, we would have needed more [Underwater Breathing Potions].’
As he complained internally, Colin looked at the new Magic he had acquired.
[Mind Spear], Tier Four Magic. The user shoots a psychic long spear at a creature, dealing 7-42 Damage. If the creature is within seventy meters of the user, it can be targeted by the Magic even if the user cannot see it.
’I didn’t expect to get a Magic related to Spiritual Energy.’
In this world, many Mages longed to obtain the mysterious power of Spiritual Energy. Through constant exploration, quite a few had indeed learned to use Magic to simulate the effects of Spiritual Energy.
This must be one of those kinds of spiritual Magic.
Generally speaking, spiritual Magic is relatively rare and difficult to learn, with high prerequisite requirements for the user.
’Perfect. I was just in need of a stronger single-target Magic,’ Colin thought. ’Although Magic Missile is versatile, its power is seriously lacking. Even with Rising Tier Spellcasting, its power can’t compare to a true Tier Four Magic.’
As he was thinking this, Colin once again found himself in the Illusion for practicing Magic.
Two humanoid targets stood before him. One wore a robe and a pointed hat, looking like a Mage, while the other wore fur clothing and seemed like a Barbarian from the North.
Just as Colin was wondering why a single-target Magic would have two targets, his body began to move on its own, as always, and he started to recite an exceedingly obscure and convoluted Spell.
As he recited the Spell, a silver light immediately appeared in the upper part of his vision.
The next moment, a silver Long Spear shot out from between Colin’s eyebrows, flying directly toward the fur-clad Barbarian and striking it smoothly in the head.
The moment the Magic hit, Colin suddenly had a strange sensation.
It felt a lot like striking something with a knife—that feeling of a "successful hit."
As for the target, the instant it was struck, it suddenly went limp, as if it had hit its head and was dizzy.
’This is most likely an effect of the Magic,’ Colin thought.
A powerful impact of Spiritual Energy in a short time can affect a creature’s brain. The Mind Flayer’s [Mind Blast] works on a similar principle.
Immediately after, Colin’s body uncontrollably turned to look at the other target, the Mage, and began Casting again.
This time, however, the Mage target didn’t show symptoms similar to the Barbarian’s, and Colin didn’t get that "hit something" sensation either.
