I Have a Task Log
Chapter 513 - 511: The Blood-Red Corridor
Chapter 513: Chapter 511: The Blood-Red Corridor
Hiding beneath the floor tiles to the rear, Ale lifted one above her head, revealing the upper half of her body. She raised her Magic Staff high, and a biting cold wind swept forth.
The two enlarged Gray Dwarves in front of Colin were instantly frozen into a pair of living ice sculptures.
After the blast of frigid wind passed, the four invisible Gray Dwarves were forced to appear, their bodies coated in a thin layer of ice.
The four Gray Dwarves shot a furious glance back at Ale before simultaneously casting Enlarge Person. Their expanding bodies shattered the ice that coated them.
The four Gray Dwarves split into pairs, one charging toward Colin and the other toward Ale.
Colin saw them coming and drew his Giant Sword without hesitation, stepping forward to meet them.
The two Gray Dwarves materialized silver daggers in their hands and hurled them at him. One struck Colin square in the chest, while the other grazed his shoulder before landing a short distance behind him.
Colin ignored the icy, stabbing pain that flared in his mind.
In that short instant, he closed the distance and stood before his two opponents.
Colin stomped on the ground—THUD—planting himself before the two opponents. The Spell for the Emerald Flame Sword was completed in the blink of an eye, and the blade instantly erupted in fierce Flame.
In that moment, he focused all his energy on his swing.
The two Gray Dwarves wore only Leather Armor and had become giants over two meters tall. Under such circumstances, he didn’t need to worry about his attack missing or being deflected by their Armor.
Colin twisted at the waist, putting all his strength into the swing.
WHOOSH!
A flash of fire, and the upper bodies of the two Gray Dwarves slowly lifted away, severed from their legs.
As the Magic faded, their torsos slowly shrank back to normal size, finally landing on the ground in a shower of blood.
The Gray Dwarves charging Ale whipped their heads around, staring in astonishment at their slain comrades.
Colin flourished his sword, flicking most of the blood from its blade.
Behind him, Ale raised her Magic Staff once more.
Two silvery-white orbs of ice shot out, striking the two Gray Dwarves squarely in the chest. The two dwarves froze, then slowly collapsed to the ground, never to rise again.
It was a Chromatic Orb, cast using Twin Magic.
Colin nodded at her and turned back toward Kase. "Kase, my friend," he shouted, "I’ve handled the ones in the back!"
"That fast?" Kase roared, hurling his Shield and Battle Axe forward. A few slaves at the front were struck and sent stumbling backward.
Kase then drew a Capture Net from his waist and threw it forward. Only then did he turn to retrieve the Frost Giant Battleaxe he had left leaning against the wall.
Just as a few slaves pushed aside the massive Shield and struggled free of the Capture Net, Colin charged in.
The Flame of the Emerald Flame Sword flared to life on the blade once more.
Colin swung his sword, carving a fiery arc through the air.
The heads of the three slaves at the very front vanished, thudding to the ground a few seconds later.
The slaves in the rear froze at the sight.
Kase’s previous tactic of blocking with his Shield while swinging his Axe couldn’t finish enemies quickly, but it was a war of attrition—like cutting meat with a dull knife. Now, Colin had arrived and instantly dispatched three unlucky souls, terrifying the remaining slaves.
The sound of Kase’s footsteps followed immediately after.
He moved a step ahead of Colin and swung his Giant Axe with all his might, sending another three slaves flying.
The slaves in the rear despaired at the sight.
A low roar echoed faintly from the rear of the slave ranks. With expressions of pure despair, the slaves let out incoherent screams and charged forward, waving their weapons.
Colin, already prepared, stepped forward again.
The Flame from his last use of the Emerald Flame Sword still clung to the blade. With a perfectly controlled twist of his wrist, the blade swept out again, and the heads of three more slaves vanished.
As Colin retracted his sword, Kase charged forward again, swinging his axe.
The two of them fell into a cycle, reaping the slaves’ lives.
The slaves’ crude weapons posed no threat to Kase and Colin.
Kase’s physique was practically inhuman. Even if a member of the Grimlock Race struck him with a Short Spear with all their might, it would at most break the skin, causing no real harm.
They were even more helpless against Colin in his Plate Armor. And with the effect of Elf Dance, many of their attacks simply hit empty air.
In no time, the entire corridor had become a bloody slaughterhouse.
Thick blood sprayed across the walls and floor, eventually gathering in growing pools.
Before long, the stone walls and floor had vanished, leaving only a corridor of crimson.
As he swung his sword again and again, Colin felt dazed, like a laborer clearing weeds with a great scythe. He didn’t even need to think about anything; he just had to swing.
Standing at the rear, Ale was momentarily unsure what Magic to cast. In a situation like this, even a Tier One Magic spell felt like a waste. She settled for casting Magic Tricks to help Colin and Kase clean the blood off their weapons.
One step at a time, one swing at a time.
WHOOSH!
Colin swung his sword again, precisely cutting down the two members of the Grimlock Race in front of him.
Immediately after, two enormous, thick Wooden Shields were thrust forward.
Kase roared and charged, striking one of the Shields with his Axe. The massive Battle Axe embedded itself in the Shield’s surface.
The Gray Dwarf holding the Shield then shoved it forward before yanking it back, using the momentum to wrench the Axe Blade free.
Colin focused his eyes and saw that the shield-bearers were two Gray Dwarves who had enhanced themselves with Enlarge Person.
Without realizing it, they had completely cleared out the enemies in the alley and reached the corridor’s entrance.
Outside the corridor entrance stood over twenty more Gray Dwarves. They were armed with Round Shields and Javelins, with sharp war picks hanging from their waists.
The remaining Gray Dwarves were staring in the direction of Donkexes and his party. Colin guessed that Donkexes’s group had killed their slaves first, completely drawing the Gray Dwarves’ attention.
"Now, Orelia!" Colin shouted.
The instant he shouted, a brilliant light bloomed above the garbage pit.
Pure golden light dispelled all darkness within the corridor, overpowering even the faint ambient light from the other halls and rooms. In its presence, no evil could hide!
The Gray Dwarves howled in agony, squeezing their eyes shut.
Even without looking directly at the Daylight spell, they were unable to fight in such an intense glare.
Colin took a step back.
He raised his hand and cast Magic Missile.
Three pale red missiles swerved around the Gray Dwarf’s Shield from three different angles. The huge Wooden Shield shuddered violently before toppling to the ground, revealing the corpse of a Gray Dwarf with three new craters punched into its body.
Beside him, Kase raised his Giant Axe high, smashed aside the Wooden Shield in front of him with the haft of his weapon, and then cut down the Gray Dwarf behind it.
At that, the entire group of Gray Dwarves snapped their heads toward them in unison.
