Chapter 792: Chapter 9: Small Temple, Fierce Demons

Fang Qingning, the Sect Master of the Martial Heart Sect, was actually only twenty-three years old. The previous Sect Master met with an accident while on a mission as a disciple of the Celestial Destiny Sect. The only two remaining elders of the Martial Heart Sect left with their closed-door disciples, leaving only her to bear the responsibility of the sect.

"Hey, hey, what are you looking at? Is this something you can look at?" Fang Chi immediately rushed up to block Li Xin.

Li Xin then realized he had been staring for a bit too long, "My injuries are basically healed. Captain Lang said someone like me should come to the Martial Heart Sect."

"Do you know that a single Guiyuan Pill can be exchanged for several talented disciples? Do you know how important it is for the revival of our Martial Heart Sect? Sis, Captain Lang said he doesn’t have a Spirit Root, what’s the use of a Body Cultivation like him? Does he just waste food? Let him go, feeding him is like feeding a dog!" Fang Chi got angry just looking at Li Xin.

Li Xin touched his nose, just about to speak, but Fang Qingning waved her hand to stop Fang Chi’s shouting and said with a smile, "Li Xin, the basic situation you should know by now, you don’t have a Spirit Root, so your prospects for cultivation aren’t good. However, outsiders entering the Divine Land require a three-month observation period. You can stay in the Martial Heart Sect, and afterward, you can go wherever you want. If you have no place to go, I can help you find one."

"Thank you, Sect Master Fang." Li Xin said, cupping his hands.

Fang Qingning?

Such a righteous woman, with a straightforward personality, good looks, and a good heart, doesn’t resemble Old Fang at all, who has eighty thousand schemes in his mind.

"Hmph, anyone can speak nicely. What can you do? Our Martial Heart Sect doesn’t keep idlers!" Fang Chi said, "My sister is kind-hearted, but I can’t tolerate fools in my eyes."

Li Xin thought for a moment, "I can cook, and I’m pretty good at it."

"The Martial Heart Sect already has a cook, just as much of a money pit as you are!" Fang Chi grumbled through gritted teeth, apparently not very fond of that cook.

Li Xin looked at the neatly stacked firewood and several large water tanks, "Chopping wood and carrying water is also fine. I’m quite strong."

"Someone’s already doing that. You will clean the entire sect, and if any other tasks come up, you’ll handle those too!" Fang Chi said.

Fang Qingning’s brows furrowed slightly, just about to speak when Fang Chi puffed out his chest, "Sis, I’m still the Young Sect Master. A Guiyuan Pill can hire hundreds of cleaners, you can’t be so wasteful anymore. Let him work off the debt somehow; unpaid labor can handle what’s left, saving us from hiring others."

"The Young Sect Master is right, I am very willing to help in any way that is needed." Li Xin said.

Seeing Li Xin’s agreeable attitude, Fang Chi coldly huffed, "For now, let’s do it like this. Sis, leave it to me here, don’t let it delay your cultivation."

Fang Qingning hesitated for a moment, seeing that Li Xin was also willing, and nodded in agreement. She really didn’t want to waste too much time on mundane affairs since reviving the sect required intensive cultivation.

The areas Li Xin needed to clean were quite numerous. In Cyan Dragon City and the surrounding regions, there were many large and small sects, numbering in the hundreds. There were also many noble families. Major sects could have hundreds or even thousands of disciples, while smaller ones had only a dozen or so members. The Martial Heart Sect was among them. Although not graded, it was still a recognized entity. Currently, the Martial Heart Sect had only a few dozen official disciples. Including Li Xin, there were a total of three Outer Disciples, which was practically equivalent to chores staff. Major sects had many chores disciples responsible for miscellaneous duties, contributing to the sect every year.

Once Fang Qingning left, Fang Chi puffed out his chest again, standing with his hands on his hips, "My sister is the Sect Master, I’m the Young Sect Master. She handles big issues, I handle small issues. I’m warning you not to covet my sister, she’s not a woman you can have. Hmph, since my sister decided to save you, you must have decent character and luck. But character and luck can’t be used as food. The Guiyuan Pill is an extremely precious healing elixir; you have to work hard, don’t let me catch you slacking off!"

The Martial Heart Sect is divided into three parts. The hillside is where the chores disciples live and the kitchens are located, along with other mundane facilities. Further up, near the mountain’s belly, is the martial arts performance field and the homes of the Inner Sect disciples where the spiritual energy is relatively abundant. Even further up is where the Sect Master and elders reside, which is off-limits to idlers. This is the last asset of the Martial Heart Sect.

The sect’s territory is actually quite large. The city is bustling, but arriving at the mountain gate, it feels as if you’ve entered a monastery.

Walking for a while, Fang Chi led Li Xin to the kitchen, where a chubby young man was cooking a large pot of food.

"Fatty Gan, Fatty Gan, this is the new Xiaoli, responsible for cleaning the sect. Show him around, and I don’t eat fatty meat. Make more lean cuts for me."

Fatty quickly wiped his hands and showed a smile, "Young Sect Master, look at what you’re saying, this isn’t for you to eat. I’ve already prepared your portion long ago."

"You’re the understanding one. As for this brat... Forget it, he’s under your command now, make him do all the dirty work!"

Thinking about the lost Guiyuan Pill, Fang Chi stomped his foot in anger and stormed off.

Li Xin smiled, "Hello, Brother, I’m Li Xin, the newcomer."

Fatty squinted his eyes and looked Li Xin up and down, "When there are people around, call me Brother. I won’t care about you picking a fight, but what should you call me now?"

"Fat Gan?"

Gan Jiu chuckled, and his chubby face twisted, "Kid, got some nerve, huh? This area is under my command. Today, I’m teaching you something: when there are people around, call me Brother Gan. When there’s no one around, you have to call me Master Jiu. Serve Master Jiu well, and Master Jiu will take care of you. Otherwise, hmm."

Li Xin burst into laughter, and Gan Jiu narrowed his eyes into slits, "You mocking me, punk?"

"Isn’t it obvious?" Li Xin said with a grin.

"I know you’re not convinced," Gan Jiu’s ears twitched, and with a wave of his hand, bang, all the doors and windows shut, "I’ve been waiting for the Young Sect Master to leave. What are you waiting for?"

With that, he suddenly threw a straight punch aiming right at Li Xin’s chest, the sound of wind breaking. Li Xin was a bit surprised, but he caught it. The chubby guy agilely spun around, trying to get a hold of Li Xin’s head, but Li Xin used a heavy slam, directly throwing Gan Jiu hard onto the ground.

In the chores disciples’ area, there practically wasn’t anyone around, so nobody cared even if there was a huge fight.

Gan Jiu’s eyes flashed with a hint of viciousness, and he suddenly leaped up, knocking Li Xin aside but didn’t continue the attack, cautiously observing Li Xin, "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"

Li Xin dusted himself off, "Didn’t the Young Sect Master just say, I’m the new Outer Disciple."

"Nonsense, with your skills, how could you possibly be an Outer Disciple!" Gan Jiu turned his eyes.

"Your skills aren’t bad either. You’re an Outer Disciple, so why can’t I be? Are you trying to mask your true intentions?" Li Xin cheerfully examined Gan Jiu, not sure about the Martial Heart Sect’s level, but that slam had quite a bit of force. This chubby guy bounced back up like that, definitely not an ordinary Awakened.

"Ha, haha, Junior Brother Li, what do you mean not bad? I’m just a cook, thick-skinned and sturdy. That was just a joke earlier." Fatty quickly pulled out a cigarette, "Here, let’s say it’s my apology to you."

Li Xin eyed the cigarette offered by Fatty Gan with a half-smile, "You wouldn’t have poisoned it, would you?"

Gan Jiu narrowed his eyes, "You’re being paranoid, aren’t you? This is my prized Cloud Fragrant Leaf, you can’t find it on the market. If you don’t smoke it, forget it."

Gan Jiu snapped a fire stone and took a light breath, blew out a ring of smoke towards Li Xin, "If you don’t recognize the value, you won’t get a chance to try it in the future."

I must say, this cigarette was really fragrant. Then Li Xin suddenly felt a wave of dizziness, and in that moment, the chubby guy agilely pounced towards Li Xin like a leopard, his chubby hand clawing towards Li Xin, when suddenly the whole person flew up again, being forcefully slammed to the ground by Li Xin.
