Chapter 739: Chapter 331: Satisfied

Shadow Owl.

Hong Ye rushed excitedly to Shadow Owl; Dragon Spine had already led the team to the scene, and she came to inform Li Xin at the first possible moment.

"Meng Silver Owl, is the Chief here?"

"Captain Hong Ye, what’s going on?" Meng Po looked at the White Dove captain who had hurried in.

"Haha, earth-shattering good news: Ji Sheng is dead, at the Golden Maple Tower. I’m here to notify the Chief to head over." Hong Ye said.

Both Meng Po and Lu Shuimo showed expressions of disbelief at her words. "Ji Sheng, Royal Family Grand Steward?"

"Yeah, who else could it be? That old bastard, who knows who he pissed off, somebody did him in."

Hong Ye nodded heavily.

Ji Sheng had already become a mountain pressing down on the heads of the Night Patrol. They knew the one who killed Jiang Wu was Ji Sheng, that Ji Sheng was Enslaved Angels; the Church Court knew it, the Cabinet knew it, Ji Sheng himself knew that they knew, yet no one could do anything to him. Every Night Patrol officer felt unwilling, yet powerless, and that clashed violently with their faith.

Under the moonlit night, Justice is eternal—so why can some murderers walk free?

What meaning does the Justice they uphold still have?

And now Ji Sheng is dead!

Someone has carried out Justice!

Feels good!

"Captain Hong, please come with me. The Chief came in early this morning; he should be reading files right now." Lu Shuimo said.

The two led Hong Ye up to the second floor, and what met their eyes was the unconscious Li Xin. He’d lost consciousness right after using the dice once.

The whole operation had been planned very thoroughly and had unfolded completely according to plan. Everyone executed well: Mr. Cancer’s blockade, Miss Aries’s Magic Ring, and his killing blow—he was certain they had absolutely taken Ji Sheng out. Yet the Slave Master was still alive.

The three hurried over; Hong Ye was the fastest. One hand pressed on Li Xin’s wrist, and with the other she stopped Meng Po and Lu Shuimo. "Meng Po, Lu Shuimo, you two guard me and don’t let anyone disturb us!"

Hong Ye, captain of White Dove, walked the Physician Path, the path most compatible with the Law Enforcer. Within the Retro Path system, it’s a relatively gentle one. Cultivators on this path gain excellent healing abilities, but their own combat strength is weak—a profession that exists for others’ benefit. This path, which was extremely useless in the Old Era, gradually revealed its superiority in the New Era as other paths were weakened.

Hong Ye couldn’t help but frown. What the hell did he do??

She felt Li Xin’s Spiritual Ability utterly overdrawn, like a bottomless pit devouring his vitality. If not for a different kind of power in his body... a bit like the Earth Mother Goddess’s power nourishing him, this would be far more than just a simple coma by now.

Milky-white light shrouded Li Xin; in an instant it was sucked into his body, and then began to draw Spiritual Ability from Hong Ye’s body. The color drained from Hong Ye’s face in a heartbeat. She bit through her finger; blood danced in the air like threads as her hands moved through Sealing.

The whole room filled with Physician Arrays. In the Retro Path system, once they encountered an intractable illness, for a Physician to heal someone they had to consume themselves or others. In the New Era, Physicians could change that through daily accumulation of Wish Power. White Dove’s main duty within the Night Patrol is exactly that. With Hong Ye’s cultivation, beneath Angel-level she almost never had to pay a heavy price—but Li Xin’s needs exceeded even an Angel’s, already beyond her ability. Yet on Hong Ye’s pale face there was indescribable joy and excitement.

She sensed the aura of Enslaved Angels from Li Xin’s wounds.

Obviously Ji Sheng wouldn’t just die for no reason, and in the Dragon Capital the only ones with the resolve to kill Ji Sheng were the Night Patrol.

Forget losing some cultivation—she’d sooner die herself than let anything happen to Li Xin!

Hong Ye drew a line with her finger, cutting open her wrist. Blood formed a sigil in midair. From the Physician path’s accumulation on the Law Enforcer Path, pure energy streamed continuously into Li Xin’s body, while also erasing the residual power of Enslaved Angels. White Dove were professionals.

Outside the door, Meng Po and Lu Shuimo were both anxious and shocked. Hong Ye was the Night Patrol’s strongest Physician, yet she’d actually reached the point of sacrificing herself to nourish Li Xin. The Chief must have a severe injury. Almost simultaneously, both realized something.

It was the Chief!

At this moment, Estella, who had already returned to the room, also showed a flush of color in her face. Her Magic Ring had not yet been withdrawn; it had been maintaining Li Xin’s vital needs all along. The sudden arrival of a Physician’s power formed a complement with the Magic Ring: the ring amplified the Physician’s strength, and the Physician’s strength in turn fed back into the ring. Only then did they barely manage to meet Li Xin’s needs.

Half an hour later, Li Xin opened his eyes. He saw Hong Ye in front of him, and Meng Po and Lu Shuimo, and squeezed out a smile. "Sister Jiu, what brings you here?"

"Chief, sleeping on the job, huh." A faint smile appeared on Hong Ye’s slightly weakened face.

"Ha, haha, I was up late last night. You caught me red-handed."

"Chief, Ji Sheng is dead. Captain Long is already at the scene, and the Church Court people have gone too. They want us to get there as soon as possible." Hong Ye said.

"Ah, Ji Sheng is dead!" Li Xin froze for a moment, then slapped his thigh hard. "Serves him right! Let’s go take a look. Huh, you’re not excited?"

The three of them couldn’t hold back their laughter. "Chief, we’ve already been excited. The carriage is outside, let’s hurry over."

Li Xin stood up—too fast, and his body swayed. But seeing that the three in front hadn’t noticed, he secretly breathed out in relief, steadied himself, and felt out his body. Huh, still very drained, but it seemed less unbearable than before. When Chris had just brought him back, he’d still been vaguely aware of the outside. After throwing the dice, at some unknown point he’d completely blacked out; his body had entered a self-protective sleep state.

Looks like with his current level of Spiritual Ability, even with Miss Aries’s Magic Ring buff, the Nine-Syllable True Words are still a bit much. If only he could permanently gain that terrifying self-healing ability of the Greedy Angel.

Once in the carriage, Hong Ye explained what had happened to Li Xin. "Ji Sheng’s death has enormous repercussions. They say Princess Ji Mingyue was basically raised by him. The Princess is furious. Every Beijing family head with status in the Dragon Capital has gone to the Golden Maple Tower."

"He’s really dead?" Li Xin asked.

"Should be real." Hong Ye said.

Li Xin was silent for a moment, then nodded. "Although Ji Sheng more or less got what he deserved, right and wrong are separate matters. If the Night Patrol is needed for the investigation, we can cooperate a bit."

"Yes, Chief." Hong Ye nodded. "I don’t think they’ll really use us. They look down on the Night Patrol as it is. Besides, we’re overloaded with work right now; we don’t have the manpower to spare."

"Sigh, that makes it tricky. Fine, I’ll handle it as I see fit when we get there." Li Xin said.

Investigate?

There was no way he was going to investigate seriously. He’d wanted to put Ji Sheng on trial, but right now he simply didn’t have the conditions. Yet letting Ji Sheng walk free like that was bad for the Night Patrol’s development. Since Ji Sheng’s Golden Body had been broken, he could muddy the waters; it’d be hard to guess it was him anyway.

Second dice adjudication: Ji Sheng is dead.

Effective result: nine points.

Li Xin frowned. What was going on? Ji Sheng was dead, the Slave Master was still alive—but earlier, he’d adjudicated that Ji Sheng was the Slave Master...

Could there be two Slave Masters? Or was there some hidden pattern he didn’t know?

The Night Patrol of the East District mobilized in full, reaching the scene immediately to secure it and wait for the Law Enforcement Court to take over. For a case of this magnitude, the Night Patrol’s authority wasn’t enough; orders had already been passed down from the Church Court.

By now the area around the Golden Maple Tower was already packed with people—vast crowds. A large number of Beijing family heads had rushed over, brimming with righteous fury; truth or falsehood aside, that was the mood. Showing their faces in front of Her Highness the Princess at a time like this, they might just get to inherit Royal Family assets down the line. With Ji Sheng gone, a lot of Royal Family power had suddenly become up for grabs.

Luxurious carriages jammed the streets. The Night Patrol could only maintain order on the periphery. They were supposed to keep idle onlookers out, but nobody took the Night Patrol seriously; the nobles barged in one after another.

Dragon Spine certainly wasn’t going to argue with them. He went through the motions and had people open the way. You like crowding around, right? Crowd as much as you want. This way Ji Sheng’s death scene would definitely be trashed beyond recognition.

Dragon Spine watched Church Court and Royal Family people coming and going with a blank expression, but inwardly he kept thinking and observing. The one who killed Ji Sheng might very well be among these people.

How could an Enslaved Angels just die like that?

He’d always believed that unless the Church Court handed down a heavy sentence and personally took action, no threat could touch Ji Sheng. In fact, if Ji Sheng really decided to flee, even the Church Court would find it hard to deal with him.

Dragon Spine was the strongest Night Patrol officer in the Dragon Capital, possessing Angel-level strength. He knew exactly how terrifying a Puppet Angel was, and even more how many escape methods a veteran Royal Family Angel had at his disposal. For him to just die like this, in the Dragon Capital, with the Church Court not having made a move...

Dragon Spine oversaw the East District’s core, so he was the first to reach the scene. Elite Night Patrol officers from other districts were also rushing over. With their deep experience, they could tell at a glance that someone had set up a scheme to kill Ji Sheng, and hadn’t even given Ji Sheng time to react.

The Bai Family, Lei Family, Ao Family, the Sima family and others had all arrived. Reporters couldn’t get in; they could only film the parade of big shots from outside. The Dragon Capital’s major events this year were really coming one after another.
