Chapter 251: Rhizen Has The Devil Killer
Chapter 251: Rhizen Has The Devil Killer
'System, are you planning to wipe out my memory now?' The teenager said, his tone cold, expressing unconcealed anger.
[The System is the System, and Host is the Host. Host's actions are your own]
'Then, what's your actual purpose in giving me Quests?' The teenager asked, 'There's nothing you can obtain in return. After all, the Skills you've given me are pretty much legendary. And what I've accomplished is nothing extraordinary. A great detective would be capable of the same.'
[I'm just following orders from my creator, to help a man driven by a strong sense of justice. Nothing more, nothing less]
'Then, who's your creator.' The teenager asked next.
[I don't know. The Host would have to dig out the truth]
Of course, the Conspiracy Slayer System, though still a Hatchling System, wasn't young. It easily solved the issue through a couple of lines of lies. At the start, it seemed like it was taking the blame. But quickly, it just shoved everything vague and unexplainable about it to a mysterious creator.
And due to the teenager's character, he automatically wished to investigate this issue and find out the truth. His shaken mental state recovered to normalcy as he wiped his tears, no longer sporting much doubt.
He then looked at Compass Carburettor, "What I possess isn't a Devil."
"Then, do enlighten me." Compass Carburettor snorted, "What is it called if not a Devil?"
"It's a Syste…guhak!" The teenager gasped for breath, slumping down to the ground as his body burned up, spasming as he was shocked, stupefied even.
If a normal human talked about Systems, nothing would happen. Because to them, Systems were just part of fiction. But, things changed to those that were aware that Systems were a thing of reality.
That's why, whenever any member of Secret Society conversed about Systems, it was done through telepathy, ensuring it only stayed within their thoughts shared through prayers. That was how they handled this issue.
And for a System Host, for some reason, they always kept the identity of the System a secret. Maybe it was to prevent their companions from learning that everything they've achieved to date was thanks to their Systems.
Maybe they wished to take credit for all their abilities and maintain that label of a legendary genius. Maybe they didn't wish for their companions to scheme against them to gain ownership of their System.
The reasons were many. But all System Hosts did the same, never revealing anything about their Systems. Moreover, there was also a mental cue that was placed in them to ensure such a line of thought wouldn't linger in their mind for long.
That's how they avoided facing the punishment from the mechanism placed on the world by the first generation of Systems that had entered it.
And now, even though it seemed like he wished to turn the teenager against his System, that wasn't his true intention. He made the Conspiracy Slayer System focus on thwarting this issue, making it raise its guard against him.
And in response, it had dropped its guard against its Host, allowing him to properly embrace this line of thought and reply, revealing his System's identity, triggering the backlash from the rules laid down by the first generation of Systems.
Thankfully, the backlash had arrived before he managed to reveal it in its entirety, so the teenager only writhed on the ground for a couple of minutes, beginning to recover after that.
And at this time, Compass Carburettor replied, adding a new spin on the tale, "That's your proof. They'll ensure to keep their identities a secret. Because, once it is confirmed that there is a Devil within you, the Devil Hunters would target you."
"The Devil Hunters?" The teenager frowned, getting up as he gasped, dusting himself, "What are they? What powers do they possess?"
"I have no idea about that." Compass Carburettor shook his head, "I've only seen one around two hundred years ago. But, if you wish to find out more, you can ask it from the Devil Hunter itself. There's one around a hundred metres behind me. They have been watching us all along."
"Hmm," The teenager thought for a moment, not taking any action, asking something, "In that case, are you an ally or an enemy of me?"
"I'm the protector of this region, and have been that for as long as I remember." Compass Carburettor said, "Whether it is a Devil or a Devil Hunter, if you dare harm my land, I'll be your enemy."
"Land? And not the people?" The teenager noticed his choice of words.
"I'm unconcerned about that," Compass Carburettor said casually, "I've only helped them in the past because I was moved by their devotion."
He then finally expressed killing intent, his voice turning vast, echoing throughout the place as he unleased the entirety of his presence as a Haggon (Spirit included), "Human, are you an enemy of this land?"
"Hah," The teenager exhaled a breath of air, noticing his hands trembling mildly under the show of the other party's vast presence, "I'm unconcerned with this land."
He then noticed the killing intent spike all of a sudden, but the target wasn't him.
Compass Carburettor turned around, grabbing Grisha as he condensed his pair of boots and flashed away from the location, watching the entirety of the house's upper floor being destroyed.
"A bunch of tomfoolery for a mere monster." A burly man that was in his late thirties landed on a piece of rubble hanging from the sidewalls, gazing at the dust-covered figure of Compass Carburettor and Grisha, "Heh, you're weaker than I had expected."
Smirking, he stomped the ground, flashing before Compass Carburettor, slamming forth a straight right to see him hit air. Compass Carburettor had appeared behind him, kicking him.
"Heh," The burly man slid on the ground, dusting his clothes as he looked at the pair of boots on Compass Carburettor, "It seems you have the same power as me. This is interesting."
He casually took out a handful of pearls when his hands shone with a blinding light, condensing all the pearls into a single golden pearl that he swallowed, brimming with power immediately.
With that, his figure flashed, targeting Compass Carburettor.
'I'm his target. I'll distract him while you try to bring the teenager on our side. Just tell him this…' Compass Carburettor informed Grisha through telepathy, pushing her aside as he exchanged blows with the burly man.
'Rhizen possesses the Devil Killer.'
