Chapter 218: Bzzzz!
Chapter 218: Bzzzz!
The Remembrance System Host quickly gathered some items, stuffed them in a bag and rushed through the mist, intending to run away. It was apparent that they didn't wish to just waste their energy and remain in a war of attrition against the ants.
But, right as they were about to escape towards a nearby house, Compass Carburettor threw a rock at their stomach, causing them to grunt in response before collapsing to the ground.
And by the time they got up, they were surrounded by the ants on all sides while the mist was rapidly thinning in response. Part of the mist was expended to kill an ant each time. And with it no longer being produced, it was beginning to thin.
'The Remembrance System should have realised that someone is targeting its Host.' Compass Carburettor smiled. But, there was no clue for the other party since he had blocked his Mental Energy, preventing the other party from sensing anything from him.
Skill—Directional Misalignment (Level 1)!
The moment the Remembrance System Host used a special ability to flash around, Compass Carburettor used Directional Misalignment to cause the opponent to slam into a wall. In actuality, they had been aiming for the window.
The wall broke in response to the impact as the Remembrance System Host struggled to get up, coughing out blood.
'It's time!' Thinking as such, Compass Carburettor arrived overhead, summoning his Anthozoa as he unloaded three bullets into the opponent's chest. The laws of Earth in the three bullets interfered with the Remembrance System's function, causing it to struggle.
And at this time, he slammed the remaining two bullets into the Remembrance System Host's head, killing them.
"This is by far the easiest hunt," Sighing, Compass Carburettor placed Anthozoa over the corpse, sucking it into the gun before his figure flashed around, returning to his house as he left a word to Grisha before falling unconscious, "Protect me for a couple of hours!"
Even though Grisha was unaware of why he did that, she followed his orders, looking around vigilantly.
In his mental space, Compass Carburettor smiled, gazing at the Remembrance System that looked no different to a human brain.
The moment it appeared, it was bound by the light tentacles created by the Darble World. But, it too had launched an attack, for Compass Carburettor found himself staring at a scene of his past, looking at the dismembered corpses of his family that had died from an accident.
"Keuk!" His eyes turned red as he felt weak, shedding tears as he plopped to the ground.
And in response to his mental state, the projectiles launched by Earth too weakened in response, bouncing off after hitting the Remembrance System.
Gazing at such a scene, the Remembrance System emitted a couple more fluctuations, causing Compass Carburettor to recall even more incidents from his past, weakening him further and further.
But, just as it seemed like the Remembrance System was about to win, the strength of the Darble World increased as the chains binding it strengthened. Moreover, countless spikes grew out of it, piercing through the Remembrance System, causing it to wail.
For a moment, Compass Carburettor broke out of his trip to the past, clutching his head as he gritted his teeth, solely attacking using the power of the Darble World.
The memories he had on Earth caused the attacks from it to weaken based on his mental state. But, as for the Darble World, its attacks weren't affected that much since Compass Carburettor didn't have any negative memories in the Darble World.
This was the advantage of having two Personal Fragments.
"Impossible!" The Remembrance System was surprised when its power was only able to affect one world.
The attacks from the Darble World still retained their usual power, as countless tentacles lashed out on it.
After thinking for a moment, Compass Carburettor's figure vanished as he fully entered the Darble World. Now, he wasn't as affected by its attacks, only remembering the things he did on the Darble World.
And, of them made him regret anything, causing his emotions to remain un-swayed. With that, he resumed his attacks, eventually destroying the Remembrance System as its attacks weren't that effective anymore.
"Ugh!" Returning to the world, Compass Carburettor grunted, slumping into Grisha's embrace as he inhaled her scent, slowly calming down.
"Humans are emotional creatures," Saying so, he fell asleep immediately.
Upon seeing his forehead slick with sweat, Grisha placed him on the bed, parting the hair on his forehead in worry, seeing his furrowed brows.
"Compass Carburettor, what have you faced in the past?" She muttered, sighing as she looked around, noticing that her surroundings were alarmingly silent all of a sudden.
The silence was troubling, for until now, there were at least the sounds of the ants and the Grassmen fighting at a couple of locations around her locality.
But now, there was nothing, not even the sounds from anyone hidden in their respective homes.
As she thought as such, followed by a couple of flickers, the lights went off. The electricity seemed to be cut off.
Even though she wished to switch on the lights using the generator, she was afraid to leave Compass Carburettor alone, especially at such a juncture.
'There's not much need for electricity at present anyway.' Thinking as such, she held a liquor bottle and a lighter in her hands, gazing around as her eyes adjusted to the moonlight.
But slowly, the light seemed to be dimming as she was alarmed, 'Just…what is happening? Is it just a passing cloud?'
"No, it's not!" She heard a familiar annoying buzz, immediately springing to her feet as she rushed throughout the house, double-checking to ensure all windows were closed shut. She also took out a tape, draped the curtains over the windows and plastered them to the wall, ensuring no openings were shown.
She then rushed through the rooms, closing all the room doors to ensure the mosquitoes wouldn't get into the other areas even if one of the rooms were to be compromised.
Carrying a fire extinguisher that was affixed in the living room, Grisha returned to the bedroom on the first floor, blocking out all exits as she arrived beside the window, placing her ears on it to hear any sounds.
At the start, it was a single sound, but within a couple of seconds, the sound turned into a chorus.
Bzzzz!
