Chapter 473: 473:Opponents.
Now Ravenna stood near the center of the street, sword covered in controlled flames while three opposing students attempted to force her away from the checkpoint.
One possessed a water-based ability, another used reinforced chains and the third wielded a broad shield that absorbed and dispersed heat.
Her narrowed her eyes.
"You’re really prepared for me," she said, her voice filled with amusement.
The shield user smiled.
"You’re one of Class Four’s strongest fighters. Obviously."
She laughed.
"That’s flattering."
Then she stepped forward.
[Fire Step Lv1 Activated.]
Her movement accelerated.
The chain user reacted immediately, sending several reinforced links toward her legs.
She twisted away, the chain helplessly passing her on her side and raised her sword.
Flame Edge
Fire spread along the blade.
She struck the chains before it was pulled back and the metal glowed red. The opponent immediately released the connection before the heat could reach his hands.
Ravenna continued forward.
The shield user raised his defense while a broad stream of water erupted from the third student’s hands.
Ravenna smiled.
"Too slow."
She shifted her sword, slicing into the air.
Burning Arc
A curved wave of fire swept across the street, but instead of expanding indiscriminately, she compressed the flames into a narrow arc that passed between two of her teammates and struck the ground directly in front of the shield user.
The sudden heat forced him backward. Steam erupted where the water attack collided with the flames and as expected visibility dropped.
She immediately activated Heat Perception.
Heat Perception
The surrounding temperature differences became clearer.
She could distinguish the warm bodies moving through the steam. Apart from the three, there was another signature approaching from behind.
She immediately turned.
A student carrying two short swords emerged from the smoke. She raised her blade the moment theors came down and the weapons collided, the impact surprisingly heavy.
She smiled, then activated Mountain Titan Physique.
Mountain Titan Physique
Her muscles tightened and her stance became firmer as she pushed at them. The opposing student stumbled backward.
She followed with a controlled strike against his protective barrier over and over again until red light flashed.
[Participant Eliminated.]
The shield user immediately charged at her.
She turned towards him, sword coming dowm. His shield struck her sword, the impact travelling through her arms.
She gritted her teeth, then smiled.
"Not bad," she said.
The shield user frowned as she stepped closer, her enhanced physical strength surging. She twisted her sword beneath the shield’s edge and forced it upward, exposing the opponent’s chest.
Before she could strike, however, a sharp voice sounded through the communicator.
"Ravenna! Left side!"
She reacted immediately.
A reinforced chain passed inches from her shoulder, then a figure appeared behind the chain user.
Shirley.
Her Light Refraction faded, and immediately the brown-haired girl struck the opponent’s identification plate with the flat of her sword.
Red light flashed.
[Participant Eliminated.]
Ravenna’s eyes widened.
Shirley stepped backward.
"You’re welcome," she said.
For a moment, Ravenna didn’t answer, then she nodded.
"Good work."
Shirley smiled.
"Thanks."
The exchange lasted less than two seconds, then both turned toward the remaining opponents. Whatever existed between them outside the competition, neither intended to lose because of it.
Ravenna raised her sword.
"All right." Flames spread across the pavement. "Let’s finish this."
Back at the communication tower, Silver was beginning to understand the limitations of defending a fixed position.
He’d eliminated three opponents, that was good but unfortunately, Class Six had noticed.
A group of four students approached from the western street, moving cautiously between abandoned vehicles while another two appeared on the roof of a nearby building.
He detected them before they came into view.
[Spatial Sense Lv3 Activated.]
He checked his ammunition. It was enough but not enough to waste.
He crouched behind the tower’s reinforced railing before the first projectile struck the wall beside him, then another.
Silver raised his handgun.
[Phantom Draw Lv4 Activated.]
He fired twice.
One shot struck the protective barrier of a rooftop archer. The second missed when the student ducked behind a ventilation unit.
He clicked his tongue.
"Not bad."
A heavy impact struck the tower’s lower entrance.
One of the approaching students possessed a strength-type ability and another was carrying a large shield.
Silver frowned.
They weren’t trying to defeat him immediately. They were clearly trying to keep him occupied.
He expanded Spatial Sense.
Two more signatures were approaching from the southern street.
Eight opponents.
He sighed.
"Helena?"
Her voice came through.
"Status?"
"Tower is being contested. Eight opponents approaching from three directions."
A brief pause, then Helena answered.
"Rowan and Elias are two minutes away."
He looked toward the stairwell.
"Understood."
"Can you hold?" She asked.
Silver smiled.
"Probably."
"Silver."
"Yes?"
"Don’t do anything stupid."
He laughed.
"Everyone keeps saying that."
"Because you keep making us nervous."
The connection ended.
Silver stood after fastening the communicator. The shield user entered the stairwell first behind him came the strength Contractor.
He raised his left hand.
[Spatial Distortion Lv2 Activated.]
A translucent plane appeared across the narrow staircase.
The shield user struck it and the barrier shifted but it was not enough to stop him completely, although enough to redirect his momentum toward the wall.
The strength Contractor attempted to push past.
Silver activated Space Slash.
[Space Slash Lv3 Activated.]
A thin spatial blade flashed across the stairwell. It struck the reinforced railing beside the opponents, splitting it.
The upper section collapsed.
Both students stumbled as the sudden obstruction blocked their advance.
Silver smiled.
"Sorry."
He fired.
One training round struck the strength Contractor’s shoulder and another hit the shield user’s exposed leg. Their protective barriers flashed but neither was eliminated.
Silver frowned.
Good defenses.
Then a projectile struck his own shoulder..His protective uniform flashed yellow.
[Participant Damage Registered.]
Silver turned towards the direction. The second rooftop archer had found an angle.
He immediately activated Short-Step.
[Short-Step Lv3 Activated.]
He disappeared from the stairwell, reappeared on the upper platform and moved again. The second Short-Step placed him on the roof of the adjacent building.
The archer’s eyes widened as he raised his handgun.
"Hello."
He fired.
[Participant Eliminated.]
The student stared in complete shock.
"How did you even get up here, the distance is too large?"
Silver smiled.
"Stairs."
The student looked toward the empty space behind him.
"That’s not funny."
He laughed before turning toward the second rooftop opponent.
