Chapter 463: 463:Fire and Resistance.
Ravenna exolored his improved Fire Resistance three days later.
They had reserved a private elemental training room for the evening, partly because Ravenna wanted to improve the precision of her fire techniques and partly because Silver had been asking to test his resistance under controlled conditions.
She stood near the center of the room, her white hair tied back while small flames danced around her fingers.
Silver stood approximately ten meters away.
"Ready?"
She looked at him up and down, as she tried to hide the little worry that was sipping into her expression.
"Are you sure about this?" She quietly asked.
Silver confidently nodded.
"Completely."
She narrowed her eyes.
"That’s what you said before walking through my fire during the assessment."
"And I was fine."
"Your uniform wasn’t."
He looked down.
He was wearing inexpensive training clothes.
"Prepared this time."
She sighed.
"You’re enjoying this too much."
"A little."
She raised one hand and a small wall of fire appeared between them.
The flames were controlled, rising approximately two meters from the floor without spreading beyond the marked training area.
Silver activated his passive.
[Fire Resistance Passive Lv3 Activated.]
Heat pressed against his skin as he stepped forward, entered the flames and walked through.
Ravenna watched him emerge on the other side.
His clothes were slightly singed around the sleeves, but his skin showed no serious burns.
He smiled.
"See?" He smugly said.
She crossed her arms and smirked.
"That was the lowest setting."
"I know."
She raised the intensity and the flames grew brighter.
Silver stepped through again. This time the heat was noticeably stronger. His skin tingled and the fabric around his shoulders darkened but he remained comfortable enough to continue.
[Fire Resistance Passive Lv3 proficiency increased.]
Silver smiled.
Ravenna stared at him for a few seconds, then slowly smiled too.
"Oh, you’re enjoying this."
Silver immediately became suspicious.
"Ravenna."
"What?"
"Don’t."
"Don’t what?"
"Whatever you’re thinking don’t do it."
She laughed, then increased the temperature again. The flames roared around the training ground.
Silver stared at the flames.
"That’s unnecessary."
Ravenna smiled sweetly.
"You said you wanted to test your limits."
"Within reason."
"This is reasonable."
"Your definition of reasonable is concerning."
She pointed toward the fire.
"Go on, you wanted flames, you got them."
Silver sighed, then stepped forward. The heat struck him immediately. His clothes began to smoke and his skin reddened slightly but Fire Resistance continued protecting him from the worst of the damage.
He walked through and emerged directly in front of Ravenna.
Her eyes widened slightly.
Silver smiled.
"Hello darling." ℴ
Ravenna stared at him, then looked at the small burns in his shirt.
"Silver."
"Yes?"
"You’re going to ruin every uniform you own."
He laughed.
She reached toward his chest, then stopped.
"Does it hurt?" She asked
"Not much," he replied.
She inspected his exposed forearm. There were only a few red marks, nothing serious.
Ravenna exhaled.
"That’s good."
Silver looked at her, then leaned closer.
"You know, there’s something romantic about walking through fire to reach you."
Ravenna stared incredulously at him before she burst into laughter.
"You’re ridiculous."
Silver smiled.
"Yet here I am."
She shook her head, then grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled him into a kiss.
Silver returned it immediately, placing his hands around her waist as the remaining flames gradually disappeared behind them.
Ravenna’s fingers tightened slightly against his shirt. For several seconds, neither moved, then she pulled back.
Her cheeks were faintly red.
Silver smiled.
"That was worth the burns."
Ravenna clicked her tongue, then hit his shoulder.
"Where do you even pull those words?"
He laughed.
She leaned against him, and for a while, they simply stood together in the quiet training room.
Eventually Ravenna looked up.
"Silver?"
"Hm?"
"Can you actually become completely immune to fire?"
He considered.
"Maybe. But I don’t know whether the passive can reach that point."
Ravenna smiled.
"That would be useful," she wistful said.
"Very."
She tilted her head.
"Especially if you keep dating me."
Silver laughed.
"That sounds like a threat."
"Maybe."
He kissed her forehead.
"Then I’ll keep improving," he said.
By the end of the second week, Silver’s physical conditioning had improved enough that even Dillian began commenting on it.
They were training in the academy gym when he finished another set of weighted squats using a load considerably heavier than what most first-years could manage.
Dillian watched from the neighboring station.
"You’re getting stronger."
He lowered the weight.
"That’s generally the idea."
"I mean faster than normal."
Silver smiled.
"Good training."
Dillian didn’t look convinced but he didn’t push. He knew Silver possessed unusual physical abilities, and the academy had already recorded his strength integration.
He moved to the next station and Primal Strength activated
His muscles tightened as he picked it up.
[Primal Strength Lv3 proficiency increased.]
He completed another set, then moved to endurance training.
Iron Bones helped him withstand the physical strain of heavy resistance exercises, while his improved attributes allowed him to recover faster between sets.
[Iron Bones Lv3 proficiency increased.]
His body was changing steadily. His muscles felt denser, his movements more controlled and his endurance greater.
He could train longer without exhausting himself, and his energy circulation was becoming increasingly stable.
Silver was pleased until he noticed something strange about his body.
During the final portion of his workout, the energy circulating through his body became unusually heavy.
As though it had reached a point where further circulation required considerably more effort than before.
Silver paused mid training.
He rested one hand against the training equipment as he tried to understand what was wrong with his body.
Dillian noticed.
"Something wrong?" He asked.
Silver shook his head.
"Just tired."
Dillian studied him, then nodded.
"Don’t overdo it."
He smiled.
"Coming from you?"
Dillian laughed quietly.
"Fair."
But Silver remained thoughtful. He’d experienced something similar during earlier breakthroughs. His body wasn’t rejecting the energy, it was compressing it.
The sensation disappeared after several minutes.
Silver continued training but he remembered it.
