Chapter 4174: Chapter 4162: Cry Like a Baby

"What’s strange about the place?"

"It’s black, about the size of a thumbnail."

As she spoke, Wenhui gestured with her fingers, extending her thumb.

"It’s about this big."

After a pause, Wenhui continued:

"There are other colors of the insects too, but they’re rare. They bite people. The village doctor said those insects can spread viruses, which led to the insect plague. I was young back then, and my grandfather told me that quite a few people died. Experts from Jing City supposedly came to develop a serum, and only then did the plague get eliminated."

"But you mentioned it’s strange. What’s strange about it?"

"The sound." Wenhui pondered over the situation back then:

"Those bugs made noise, similar to cicadas, but their sound was like a baby crying. Perhaps a single insect’s cry isn’t very noticeable, but when they appear in swarms, the sound becomes very much like that. Every time I heard it, I couldn’t sleep, and..."

After pausing again, Wenhui continued, "Those bugs are also frightening in appearance, with a mouth like pincers. Thinking about it now, it still scares me."

A mouth resembling pincers...

Lin Yi hadn’t seen many such creatures on land, but on Tilia Island, there were plenty of such insects.

A few hundred could strip a body clean in ten minutes, and even a living person wouldn’t be an exception.

But it can’t be said that such things on land are abnormal; in dense mountains and rainforests, it’s reasonable for these things to exist.

So it can’t be taken as evidence.

"Besides that, is there anything else?"

"In other aspects..."

Wenhui thought, "There shouldn’t be anything else. It’s just that the crying sound is very weird, like a baby."

"Didn’t you say your grandfather has seen a dragon? Then in your village, has anyone else told you similar stories?"

"There were, but I think they all heard those stories from my grandfather."

Lin Yi considered that there might be potential for deeper investigation here.

"Have you ever verified this aspect? Whether your grandfather heard it from somewhere else, or actually saw it himself."

"I never asked about that. They were all rumors back then, and we listened to them as stories. I guess they were tales passed from others and then shared with other kids in the village."

Wenhui looked at Lin Yi with a serious expression.

"Your question earlier was a bit strange."

Lin Yi smiled, "What’s strange about it?"

"Why would you ask if others heard the story from my grandfather or saw it themselves? How could anyone have seen such things? They simply don’t exist."

"Maybe I misspoke. I’m just really curious about why so many people are talking about this."

"These rumors were passed down from my grandfather’s generation," Wenhui said:

"I guess there’s a good chance it was my great-grandfather’s generation that told them the story. You know, that generation was mostly uneducated, so they believed such things when they heard them and then used them to show off to us as if they’d seen a lot."

Smoothing her hair, Wenhui said:

"I think they might have seen some shadows, or perhaps some animal skeletons that looked dragon-like and took them as genuine."

After she finished speaking, Wenhui thought for a moment, "I remember there’s a kind of large lizard; it’s even mentioned in textbooks."

"Are you talking about the Komodo Dragon?"

"Yes, yes, that’s it. I suddenly remembered. That kind of creature looks quite like a dragon."

Lin Yi couldn’t help but laugh, "Aren’t you getting mixed up? What resembles them are dinosaurs, not dragons in our traditional sense."

"Yeah, but when it decomposes and only bones remain, wouldn’t they look somewhat similar?"

"Not similar at all, actually. It’s unlikely."

"Actually, it’s possible. That generation’s education levels were low. It’s hard to reasonably distinguish such things, so I think they probably saw some skeletons and then exaggerated the story, claiming they saw a dragon."

"If you put it that way, it could be possible."

"I suggest you approach that place with a curious mindset, but don’t rush to explore it. It can indeed be quite dangerous."

Wenhui looked at Lin Yi, smiling:

"If you want to travel, you can explore around our village. There are many undeveloped natural landscapes, and I still find those places very beautiful and not dangerous."

"When I feel like going, I will definitely call you."

"That’s a promise," Lin Yi said with a smile.

"Alright, when the time comes..."

Knock, knock, knock—

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Lin Yi got up to open it and saw Xu Ying standing there, also wearing pajamas.

This is where young girls differ from women.

Xu Ying wore pajamas and sleep pants, with a touch of white lace at the cuffs and trouser legs, and a teddy bear pattern on them.

In contrast, what Wenhui wore was a strappy nightgown.

Their personalities were completely opposite, one bold and the other conservative. But in this aspect, the contrast was quite interesting.

"Lin Bro..."

Xu Ying was about to speak but then noticed Wenhui sitting on the sofa, and her expression suddenly became ambiguous.

"Brother Jiang, you guys continue. I won’t disturb you. I’ll be off now."

"I have something to ask her. Don’t let your mind wander to strange places," Lin Yi said with a smile.

"It’s all perfectly normal. I understand. You two chat; I don’t have anything important. I’ll talk to you tomorrow."

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Wenhui stood up and pulled Xu Ying into the room.

"Come in quickly. If you leave now, it would seem like there really is something between us."

"It’s completely normal, Sister Hui. You’re so charming, definitely the first pick for mature men. If I were a man, I would be interested in you too."

"Come on, stop saying nonsense."

Being teased, Wenhui felt a little shy and changed the subject, "Did you come at this hour because something’s up?"

"The faucet is leaking, dripping non-stop. I fiddled with it for ages but couldn’t fix it. It’s keeping me awake, so I figured I’d ask Brother Jiang to take a look and see what’s wrong; otherwise, I can’t sleep."

"Let’s go quickly. I’ll take a look," Lin Yi said.

"No hurry, no hurry."

Xu Ying quickly retreated, "I’ll find a way to plug the faucet. You two carry on as if I never came."
