Chapter 2943: Chapter 2943: From B+ to A-
Lin Yi thought about it for a moment and didn’t immediately refuse.
Because this matter, it’s really not easy for him to handle.
Ma Xiangqiang didn’t make things difficult either; giving seven days off was already a huge favor, considering this is the fire brigade, not any other place.
If he left without permission, according to regulations, no matter how excellent his performance, he’d be dismissed.
So it’s not good to proceed, nor to retreat; letting Liu Hong do a dimension-reducing strike isn’t bad either.
Dealing with it once and for all sounds great.
"Wait a moment."
He responded, smiling as he looked at Ma Xiangqiang while holding his phone.
"Boss, someone wants to say a few words to you."
"What, you’re asking someone to plead for you?"
"I don’t mean that; he just wants to say a few casual words to you."
"Lin Yi, your recent performance has been great, with a bright future ahead, but I hope you won’t become arrogant; young people should remain humble."
"I understand."
"So, I won’t take the call. You know what’s up; you can go back."
"Come on, at least answer it, give me some face."
"Since you’re asking, I’ll give you some face, but I’ll tell you, no matter who calls today, it won’t work. A maximum of one week off, take it or leave it."
"Just answer the call, and I won’t even need the leave," Lin Yi said with a cheeky smile.
Ma Xiangqiang remained serious; although he admired Lin Yi, he wouldn’t encourage this kind of atmosphere.
So the outcome wouldn’t change; now, he’d give Lin Yi some face by answering the call.
He took Lin Yi’s phone and put it to his ear.
"This is Ma Xiangqiang."
Lin Yi didn’t know what Liu Hong said on the phone.
But Ma Xiangqiang’s expression changed dramatically, with a very interesting and somewhat peculiar look.
He glanced at Lin Yi from time to time, his face full of disbelief.
"Alright, alright, we will certainly cooperate on our end, no problem with the number of days off."
Subsequently, Ma Xiangqiang handed the phone back to Lin Yi; Liu Hong hadn’t hung up yet.
"I’ve finished saying what I have to say; you should prepare as well and bring back the first team."
"Okay."
After handling the serious business, Lin Yi hung up the phone.
Ma Xiangqiang stared at him intently, his expression intriguing.
"Who was that who called me just now?"
"My other boss," Lin Yi said with a smile.
"Then your identity..."
At this point, Lin Yi didn’t hide anymore, finding a photo of his credentials on the phone.
After seeing it, Ma Xiangqiang was dumbfounded.
"You are actually a junior..."
"Boss, keep your voice down; my identity needs to be confidential."
Ma Xiangqiang swallowed hard.
He didn’t know Lin Yi’s exact identity, but just by the credential in his hand, after transitioning, his rank would surpass his own.
This is not how to mess with people!
"So your leave this time?"
Lin Yi nodded with a smile, "It’s for a secret mission."
"No wonder your physical fitness is so outstanding, like a monster." Ma Xiangqiang said:
"But I’m puzzled; why are you here in the first place?"
"When there’s no mission, we have a lot of free time," Lin Yi said with a smile:
"I’m here to experience life and contribute to the public."
"No wonder you’ve climbed to this position at such a young age, with this level of awareness."
Ma Xiangqiang opened the drawer of his desk, took out a leave slip, and handed it to Lin Yi.
"Write the time yourself when you get back and hand it to me afterward."
"Okay, thank you, boss."
"Stop buttering me up; with your rank, you’ll be my boss when you transition back."
"A line must be drawn; at least for now, you’re my boss," Lin Yi said with a smile:
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now."
"Wait, leave me the cigarettes."
"Haha, alright."
Lin Yi placed the cigarettes on the desk and turned to leave.
Ma Xiangqiang tore open the package and lit one, his hand still a bit shaky.
"A person of this rank buying me cigarettes; this life hasn’t been in vain."
Leaving the office building, Ding Fei called Lin Yi aside.
"Did the boss give you leave?"
"Of course, nothing’s ever been a problem once I step in."
"Darn, next time I need something, I’ll buy him a couple of packs too." Ding Fei said:
"When are you planning to leave?"
"After today’s shift."
Lin Yi pointed to the entrance, "My friends are here; I’m not having lunch here today."
"Okay, go ahead then."
After greeting Ding Fei, Lin Yi walked out of the squad.
His team was waiting for him there, and they all looked a bit down, having not eaten for a week.
"Look at you all, just a week without food and acting like wilted eggplants."
"Luo Qi and I can handle it, but Sister Ying lost over 10 pounds, slimming down from a B+ to an A-. If this goes on, she’ll be done for."
"Let’s go; I’ll take you to eat."
Lin Yi didn’t go far, taking them to a small restaurant diagonally across from the station.
Though the environment was a bit shabby, the food was quite good.
After ordering over a dozen dishes, the team devoured the food eagerly.
But Lin Yi only let them eat till they were 70% full; having starved for so long, binge eating suddenly could cause problems.
They needed to eat back gradually.
"Boss, when are we setting out?"
"Tomorrow," Lin Yi replied:
"I’ve arranged a place for you; relax tonight, then we’ll go."
"Lin Bro, wishing you peace."
"Aren’t you coming with us?"
"I’ll be gone for over a month; I need to pack up before meeting at the airport."
"Alright."
Ring-ring-ring—
At this moment, a piercing bell rang out.
Lin Yi instinctively stood up and rushed outside.
He promptly returned to the squad.
"Quick, go change your clothes; this is a big job."
As Lin Yi was still on duty, Ding Fei didn’t give him any special treatment.
"Got it!"
Lin Yi, well-trained, put on his uniform and got into the car, joining the third squad as they set off for the scene.
The team stood at the entrance, wide-eyed.
"What do we do now?"
"Since we have nothing to do, let’s follow and check it out. If something difficult comes up, we might help." Zhang Chaoyue suggested.
"You’re just trying to show off and act all cool in front of the public, aren’t you?" Zhao Yunhu asked.
"You know me well; let’s go."
On the fire truck, after learning the specifics, Ding Fei addressed the third squad:
"The situation’s similar to the one half a month ago; the fire started in an indoor play center. But we haven’t figured out the situation inside. Everyone needs to take responsibility and not act rashly; listen to commands."
"Yes!"
"What’s going on lately? Two fires in half a month, that’s too frequent." Liu Qingfeng complained.
