Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Klein Says She Is Stupid

In the stone house, which covered an area of about two hundred square meters, there was complete silence. The gazes of the clan members were all fixed on a middle-aged male in the center. The middle-aged male had short golden hair. Although he was getting on in years, his eyes remained clear and bright. The expression on his face was enigmatic, making it impossible to guess his thoughts. After a long while, he finally said, "Do as Ophelia says."

Klein had been watching from the sidelines since the dispute began, witnessing the entire event. However, since this was someone else’s tribe, he didn’t step forward to break up the fight. Instead, he quietly watched the situation unfold as a spectator. Now that the drama was over, he returned to his own corner of the stone house to rest. Ali had just recovered and was still very weak. She desperately needed someone to take care of her to prevent another fever.

Inside the stone house, the members of the Golden Dragon Clan were bustly engaged in the lively activity of room assignment.

"The stone house over there is more spacious. It’ll be more comfortable for you young males to stay there."

"This current stone house leans against the mountain and is much warmer. Let the young females stay here so they don’t have to move around."

The young females were the top priority. Everyone gave up the two best and warmest stone houses, accommodating nearly two hundred of them. Some of the males who had mates weren’t picky; they simply stayed wherever their mates were housed.

Once the clan members were mostly settled, Ophelia thought of Ali. Seeing that Ali was soundly asleep, she lightened her footsteps and approached. She slowly crouched down and pressed her fair, small hand against Ali’s forehead. Confirming that the young female wasn’t running a fever anymore, she finally let out a sigh of relief.

"Clan Leader Klein, please keep a close eye on Ali’s temperature. If it goes up, call me immediately," Ophelia instructed in a low voice, lightly poking Klein, who was resting with his eyes closed.

He raised his eyes, glanced at Ophelia, and then looked at Ali, whose small face was flushed red in her sleep. He gave a slight nod. "Mhm, I will." With that said, he closed his eyes again to rest.

"Ophelia, come quickly!" a young female called out from the side.

Ophelia responded and walked away.

Only when Klein heard the fading footsteps did he open his eyes again to gaze at Ophelia’s back. The young female’s figure looked slight from behind. Because of the cold weather, she was wearing a long, sleeveless slip dress pieced together from beast skins. The beast skin skirt perfectly exposed her fair, rounded shoulders and neck, as well as her delicate collarbones. Naturally, the crude beast skin skirts of the Beast World lacked any modern waist-cinching tailoring. The only guarantee was that they wouldn’t fall off when worn. Therefore, the long beast skin skirt was very loose, and as Ophelia walked, her long, fair calves would occasionally be revealed.

Just looking at her, Klein inexplicably felt his heart rate speed up. But he quickly attributed his racing heart to the heavy rain over the past two days and his lack of proper rest. After all, back in the White Tiger Clan, countless young females had stripped naked to seduce him, yet he had remained completely unmoved. He convinced himself that he must simply be too tired right now. Yes, that was exactly it! Ultimately, there was no way he would believe he was falling for a young female who had been mated before.

"Tyler," Ophelia called out as soon as she reached the main hall of the stone house.

Tyler quickly appeared by Ophelia’s side, awaiting her orders.

"Come with me to the barbecue stone house for a bit. I need your help with something."

"Alright." Tyler nodded, following Ophelia toward the barbecue room.

To make walking back and forth more convenient, the eaves of the stone houses had all been extended and connected to each other, preventing anyone from getting drenched in the rain during transit. This specific stone house, dedicated entirely to roasting meat, had been built at Ophelia’s suggestion when they were initially constructing the stone houses. The purpose was to provide a safe place to build a fire and roast meat indoors during extreme weather like heavy rainstorms.

"First, start a fire and boil some water."

Tyler obediently complied. He skillfully ignited the firewood and filled the stone pot with water. The fire burned vigorously, and before long, the water in the stone pot began to BUBBLE BUBBLE.

Ophelia took out some ginger and peppercorns from her Beast Skin Bag and tossed them in.

Tyler caught a whiff of a pungent, slightly spicy scent and unconsciously sneezed. He had seen ginger before when they were brewing ginger soup. It was yellow, and although it didn’t smell great, it wasn’t stimulating enough to make him sneeze. But now, just adding these tiny things had created such a strange smell.

Tyler rubbed his itchy nose and fixed his gaze on the small, round peppercorns. He pointed inquiringly at the small, reddish-brown granules. "What are these?"

"These are peppercorns. They can dispel the cold." Ophelia held a large ladle, slowly stirring the water in the stone pot. Billowing white smoke curled up from the pot, and the steam carried the spicy scent with it.

"Dispel the cold? Is this for the young females to drink, too?"

Ophelia shook her head. "No. If you drink peppercorn water directly, it will cause internal heat. It’s meant for soaking the body. It’s for the elderly males. Their legs and joints are uncomfortable. The peppercorn water can dispel the cold in their bodies and warm them up." She currently had no cure for rheumatism; she could only do her best to alleviate their pain.

However, the smell was truly far too pungent. The billowing white smoke slipped out of the room and drifted into the adjacent stone house. A few males who were helping the young females move their belongings caught the scent and started sneezing one after another. Before long, a cacophony of sneezes echoed throughout the massive stone house. A few of the males sneezed so hard that tears streamed down their faces. They hurriedly covered their mouths and noses to block out the smell, barely managing to stop. They followed the scent and found their way to the barbecue stone house—the kitchen. Standing outside the door, they could vaguely see the figures of Ophelia and Tyler.

"What is the Princess up to now?" a young male asked suspiciously as he sniffed the pungent odor.

Even though Ophelia was the Princess of the Golden Dragon Clan, she had previously lowered her status to mate with a Wolf Beast, which caused a lot of dissatisfaction among the young males in the tribe. They felt she had no taste. Instead of choosing a dignified Dragon Beast, she had unexpectedly picked a Wolf Beast. They were internally displeased about Ophelia dissolving her partnership and returning to the Golden Dragon Clan. However, with Leon and Laxus around, they didn’t dare say much. Had it not been for Ophelia providing the ginger soup for the young females to drink this time, they would have welcomed her back even less.

"Should we... go take a look?" another male asked curiously. This pungent smell was something they had never encountered before.

The two clan members exchanged a glance and leaned against the kitchen door, poking their heads in. The pungent smell became even more intense.

"Princess, what are you boiling?"

"Peppercorn water. It’s for dispelling the cold," Ophelia replied, keeping a close eye on the liquid in the stone pot and adding more peppercorns as needed.

The two young males nodded, half-understanding. Peppercorns? Never heard of them.

They continued to watch for a while until they suddenly felt an icy, piercing aura from behind them. They looked up, and good heavens, it was the Clan Leader of the White Tiger Clan. They were just about to greet him when they were interrupted by Klein gesturing for them to keep quiet.

The two clan members had no choice but to quietly leave the kitchen.

Tyler and Ophelia were both busy in the kitchen, while Klein stood quietly at the door, watching. He watched as she stood with one hand on her hip and the other holding a ladle, stirring the pot. The bangs on her forehead were soaked with sweat, and beads of perspiration slid down her neck.

He scoffed. She was a fool. As a princess, she should be a lofty existence, yet she insisted on spreading her kindness everywhere. It was the law of nature for elderly males to suffer physical ailments, but she would rather sweat profusely just to boil a cold-dispelling brew for them. His sister was a member of the White Tiger Clan; her illness had absolutely nothing to do with the Princess of the Golden Dragon Clan. Yet, she had insisted on staying up all night to take care of Ali. She really loved bringing trouble upon herself. How foolish.
