"We’re looking for Kelly. Is she around?"

Ali was naturally vivacious and knew all the young females in the singles’ dormitory.

Ali rubbed her chin in thought. "She seems to have gone out bright and early this morning. I think she went to look for a male named Tiger."

Ophelia and Zerev exchanged a glance. It seemed they were too late.

"Sister, do you need Kelly for something?" Ali was naturally inquisitive.

"Yes, there’s something I want to ask her."

Ali glanced around. Seeing that no one was paying attention to them, she pulled Ophelia behind a tree to whisper.

"Sister, I have to tell you, I really don’t like the male pursuing Kelly."

"You mean Tiger?"

"Yes, that’s him."

"What did he do to you? Did he bully you in secret?" Ophelia asked. Ali was usually very even-tempered; she rarely expressed dislike for anyone.

Ali shook her head. "No, nothing like that.

"I just think he’s a bit of a womanizer. Do you know? The first person he went after wasn’t Kelly, but Maya. However, Maya already has several mates and has no intention of taking another.

"That’s why he turned around and started pursuing Kelly. I tried to warn her before, telling her that Tiger isn’t a good male, but she wouldn’t listen.

"And because of Tiger, she even got into fights with several other young females in the tribe."

"So, you’re saying Kelly wasn’t his first target?" Ophelia asked.

Ophelia knew of Maya. She was originally from the Snow Wolf Clan and was among the very first group of young females to join the Fuzu Tribe.

"Exactly," Ali replied.

"Sister, if you don’t believe me, you can ask Maya yourself. She’s right over there."

Ophelia nodded and called Maya over.

Maya’s face lit up with a happy smile when she saw Ophelia. "Clan Leader Ophelia, it’s been a long time."

"It has. Are you feeling any better?"

"Yes, I feel much better after taking the medicine you gave me."

Two days before Brada’s arrival, Ophelia had already distributed the health-boosting medicine she prepared to the young females of the tribe.

Because Maya’s body had been weakened during the previous rainy season, leaving her hands and feet freezing cold all day long, Ophelia had specially prepared an extra medicinal pack for her.

"Are your hands and feet still cold?"

Maya shook her head. "Not anymore. I’m doing much better now. Moreover, I..."

Her cheeks flushed red as she spoke.

"What is it? Tell us!" Ali pressed, unable to contain her impatience.

"I’m pregnant with a cub."

"What? You’re pregnant? Aren’t you..." Ali swallowed the rest of her words.

Ophelia shot Ali a glance and shook her head, gesturing for her to stop.

Maya had been with her mates for several years but had never conceived. Because of this, many people gossiped behind her back, calling her a hen that couldn’t lay eggs.

"Yes. It’s all thanks to the Clan Leader’s medicinal packs; otherwise, there’s no way I would have gotten pregnant with a cub so quickly."

Maya had faced continuous disappointment for years and had stopped believing in miracles.

Her current diet was no different from what she ate before. The only change was that she had been brewing and drinking Ophelia’s medicinal packs recently.

After taking the medicine, her body was no longer icy, and her hands and feet became warm and toasty. She felt physically lighter and much more cheerful. Because of this, she was certain her quick pregnancy was directly linked to Ophelia’s medicine.

"Congratulations, Maya," Ophelia said, offering her heartfelt blessings. "I actually came to ask you something today. Did Tiger pursue you before?"

Maya froze for a moment before quickly replying, "Yes, that did happen."

"He’s quite strong and young. Why did you refuse to mate with him?"

Maya bit her lip. After hesitating for a moment, she finally voiced the thoughts she had kept bottled up.

"I just felt like something was off about him. On his very first day in the tribe, he found a chance to strike up a conversation with me, claimed he liked me, and asked to become my mate.

"Over the next two days of interacting, he would constantly bring up the Fuzu Tribe’s cultivation of herbal medicine. I felt he wasn’t genuine about wanting to be with me, and since I already have many mates, I turned him down."

"I see," Ophelia said. Her suspicions were confirmed; she was now certain that Tiger was a spy sent by Brada.

"Alright. Ali, when Kelly gets back, tell her to come to the stone house to see me. I have something to discuss with her."

"Okay, I’ve got it, Sister."

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Ophelia and Zerev returned to the stone house.

It wasn’t until dusk that Kelly finally arrived.

Her small face was flushed red, and she beamed with joy. "Clan Leader Ophelia, did you agree to let Tiger and me become mates?"

Seeing the girl completely blinded by her first taste of romance, Ophelia had a bad feeling about this.

"Kelly, do you really like Tiger? You’ve only known each other for a few days. Are you really ready to let him become your mate?"

Hearing that Ophelia hadn’t actually approved of their union, the smile on Kelly’s face faltered.

"Kelly, I think there’s something wrong with Tiger. I suggest you don’t rush into becoming mates with him."

"I like him, and he likes me. Why can’t we become mates?" Kelly instantly grew anxious.

"I never said you couldn’t be together. I just want you to think it over more carefully," Ophelia quickly said in a soft, soothing tone, seeing how worked up the girl was getting.

But Kelly reacted like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "Ophelia, no matter what you say to dissuade me, I’m going to become mates with Tiger.

"If you don’t agree, then I’ll leave the Fuzu Tribe."

Ophelia hadn’t expected Kelly to be this resolute.

"Have you told your brother about your intention to leave the tribe?"

Kelly had originally joined the Fuzu Tribe alongside her brother.

"I haven’t told him yet, but I will soon."

"Kelly, are you really willing to part ways with your brother over a male? You’ve only known Tiger for a few days. Has his place in your heart already surpassed your brother’s?"

Ophelia was now practically certain that Kelly was completely blinded by love.

Hearing Ophelia’s words made Kelly uncomfortable. Her eyes turned red. "I like Tiger, so what’s wrong with wanting to be his mate? Why won’t you let me be with him?

"If you just agreed to let us become mates, I wouldn’t have to move out of the Fuzu Tribe!"

"Since you’re so insistent, let’s make a bet," Ophelia said. Seeing that Kelly wouldn’t listen until she hit a brick wall, Ophelia decided to stop trying to persuade her.

"Bet on what?"

"Bet that if you go tell Tiger you’re leaving the Fuzu Tribe, let’s see if he still wants to be your mate."

Tiger’s first choice when he joined the Fuzu Tribe had been Maya, as he knew she was part of the original group that joined the tribe and would know the most about its history. It was only because Maya had rejected him that he settled for Kelly.

The only reason he wanted to mate with a female from the Fuzu Tribe was to fish for information regarding the Divine Medicine and the traveling healers.

If Kelly were to suddenly declare that she was leaving the Fuzu Tribe, Ophelia was eighty percent confident that Tiger would abandon any plans of mating with her. After all, a Kelly who was no longer part of the Fuzu Tribe would be completely useless to him.
