I Collect Skill Fragments in the Demon World
Chapter 1193 - 821: Destroying the Altar
The mystery of the grand array on this sacrificial altar far exceeded Zhang Chen’s expectations.
As the eight copper rods were inserted into the eight pillars of the altar one by one, the rods continuously transformed into molten iron, spreading across the entire altar, and surprisingly rooted themselves within the Reverse Scale of the Dragon Vein of Kunlun Mountain.
"Crack~"
A thunderous crack erupted from the void, and Zhang Chen’s pupils narrowed. He saw the entire Kunlun Mountain Dragon Vein tremble, seeming to resist the power of the eight copper rods. Yet, in the next moment, the rods vibrated, causing the whole altar to quake and suppressing the resisting force of the Dragon Vein.
Then, above the altar, the winds and clouds raged, and dark clouds gathered from the void, with countless lightning bolts traversing within.
"Something’s not right!" Zhang Chen muttered to himself, sensing the looming crisis grow even more severe.
At that moment, earth-shattering roars sounded from afar, and numerous demon beasts roared as they charged towards Kunlun Mountain from all directions, covering the sky and the earth.
There were innate spirits manifesting the technique of Heaven and Earth, with suns, moons, and stars above their heads, crashing towards the Kunlun Mountain range.
Other beings were enveloped in all-consuming fiery rain, whipping up waves of fire that surged towards Kunlun Mountain, standing amidst the fire as if a divine spirit within the ocean waves.
And there were giants invoking Heaven and Earth, with a single step shaking a thousand mountains, their colossal strides uprooting the vegetation within a radius of hundreds of miles, casting the earthborne spirits into the air.
...
Innate spirits, shrouded in vast divine power, commanded numerous great armies, advancing towards Kunlun Mountain.
Zhang Chen, atop the altar, involuntarily narrowed his eyes: "Could it be? Are the innate spirits planning to invade Kunlun Mountain? Such terrifying auras those innate spirits have!"
Looking at the overwhelming innate spirit army, fear flickered in Zhang Chen’s eyes. Their auras surpassed even the Ancestral Master of Longevity he’d once seen. Though not on par with the Queen Mother of the West, they were not far behind.
"Queen Mother of the West, you are too audacious, daring to build a sacrificial altar. Dismantle it at once to avoid today’s catastrophe, or we will fight to the death to stop you!" The giant’s thunderous voice echoed throughout Kunlun Mountain.
"All warriors heed my command, follow me to slay the invaders!" Lady Biyun’s voice rang out among the mountains. Then, from the Queen Mother of the West’s palace at Kunlun Mountain, a brilliant divine light shot skywards, boldly confronting the three innate spirits: "Just the three of you wish to stop me? Utterly delusional! Today, I shall construct this altar and forcibly open the path to the heavens; this world cannot confine me!"
The Queen Mother of the West wielded a flag, and the plain cloud banner fluttered, sweeping through the void of nine heavens and ten lands, clashing with the three innate divine spirits. Instantly, the Earth quaked and mountains crumbled, terrifying power rippling through heaven and earth. Fortunately, West Kunlun’s power, immune to all laws, prevented the entire mountain range from shattering.
"Kill!"
The Queen Mother of the West, holding the plain cloud banner, battled fiercely with the three fearsome innate spirits, showing no signs of defeat.
Meanwhile, countless demon beasts on the ground surged like tides towards Kunlun Mountain, intending to destroy all its palaces and the splendid jade and stone structures.
"Kill!"
Lady Biyun, holding a treasured sword, led numerous golden armored warriors and ordinary warriors to charge against the demon army. For a moment, both sides clashed like two crashing waves, fighting so intensely that the sky turned dark and the sun and moon lost their light.
Zhang Chen stood on the altar, observing the altar rooted deeply in the Dragon Vein, then glanced at the warriors around, who appeared helpless. Raising his head again towards the dark clouds in the void, he saw the lightning within the black clouds grow increasingly fierce, causing his Primordial Spirit to tremble with shock, feeling as if the impending crisis had reached its peak.
"I know where this crisis originates!" Zhang Chen looked at the dark clouds above. If he didn’t know by now, he’d be a fool.
"The Dragon Vein of Kunlun Mountain relates to the direction of the Earth Dragon Vein. This altar being rooted on the Reverse Scale of the Dragon Vein is fatal! It’s not just embedded in the Earth’s Dragon Vein but in the Heaven and Earth’s Reverse Scale too. No wonder the Heavenly Dao of this world can’t tolerate me." Zhang Chen felt an impulse to curse out loud, feeling utterly betrayed by the Queen Mother of the West.
This Celestial Punishment targets not just the altar but is also aimed at Zhang Chen himself.
"What the hell!" Without a second thought, Zhang Chen jumped off the altar to make his escape. The celestial punishment was aimed at the altar, and if he lingered there, he feared his life was soon to end.
As Zhang Chen leaped off the altar, hordes of demon beasts charged at him, ranging from the tenth tier, eleventh tier, twelfth tier, and even exceeding the twelfth tier, making Zhang Chen’s heart pound with fear. He quickly turned to flee, unable to withstand their attacks.
"Kill!"
Zhang Chen wanted to escape, but the great demons wouldn’t let him go. He saw more than a dozen eleventh-tier great demons swoop in, intent on putting Zhang Chen to death. In this Kunlun Mountain realm, the Golden Armor Divine Generals appeared too conspicuous compared to those bronze warriors, becoming the primary targets of the demon race.
Facing the overwhelming great demons, the only thing Zhang Chen could do was run; he dared not engage in battle with these powerful demon race warriors.
The Golden Armor Divine Generals stood no chance against the demon race experts. They were like paper mache, directly torn to shreds.
Even Zhang Chen, who practiced six breathing techniques, dared not confront the demon race, let alone those Golden Armor Divine Generals who only practiced three movements.
Of course, Kunlun Mountain isn’t without its strong figures. One by one, the Innate Spirits nestled in Kunlun Mountain, appearing like carvings, bellowed skyward, releasing terrifying divine power as they charged toward the demon race experts.
Over nearly a thousand years of living here, Zhang Chen also knew the backgrounds of these Innate Spirits perched on columns and in palaces; they all pledged allegiance to The Queen Mother of the West, drawn by her spirit medicine and Peach of Immortality, becoming her vassals.
At that moment, the horrifying divine power in the void was earth-shattering. Zhang Chen scrambled through Kunlun Mountain, witnessing a snake-headed monster closely pursuing him from behind.
The snake demon was peculiar; though it had a serpent body, it had a pair of wings on its back. Its body was covered with dense scales, as if mysterious innate patterns were circulating, strange symbols flickering within, with black mist swirling subtly around it.
The monstrous snake left a black trail wherever it went; any place it passed, whether beast from the opposing camp or warriors from the West Kunlun camp, all turned into puddles of black pus.
"What a terrifying creature. That black mist is toxic gas, gathering power within that has strong corrosive properties. Wherever it passes, all steel melts away; even the Steel Body of the Golden Armored Warriors can’t withstand this poison’s power, turning to pus in an instant."
Demon beasts attempted to assault the altar, countless of them scaling the thousand-mile altar wanting to destroy it. Lady Biyun transformed into a streak of green light, landing on the altar, making gestures with her hand. Next, the altar activated the Innate Grand Array, forming a light shield, instantly turning all demon beasts into pools of bloody pus, flowing into the central pool of the altar.
At this moment, the Innate Grand Array emitted waves of suction, continuously capturing demon beasts from all directions, as soon as they neared the altar, they were absorbed and turned into bloody pus.
Zhang Chen glanced at the altar, knowing it was guarded by sixty-four Innate Grand Arrays, that demon beasts couldn’t shake the altar. But under the power of celestial punishment, its survival was questionable.
Zhang Chen kept fleeing, leveraging the terrain, Kunlun Mountain’s Golden Armored Warriors, and experts to fend off the invading demon race cultivators.
Finally, after a long while, an Innate Spirit Beast was freed, being attracted by the snake demon, leaping to attack it, the two fighting fiercely, obscuring day and night with no light from the sun or moon.
Zhang Chen, hiding among corpses, watched the fierce battle outside, various thoughts flickering in his mind: "The Library Pavilion should be entangled with demon beasts now. If I want to steal the Heaven Opening Giant Technique, now is a golden opportunity."
Zhang Chen’s heart raced at the thought but hesitated, shaking his head after a while: "Even with demon beasts and Innate Spirits assaulting the West Kunlun, West Kunlun isn’t showing signs of defeat. It’s unwise to act now; if The Queen Mother of the West wins and seeks retribution, it won’t be good."
After pondering for a while, Zhang Chen put away his minor thoughts but internally cursed: "That Queen Mother is trying to set me up by having me build the altar! I can’t believe she doesn’t know that constructing the altar would incur celestial punishment; else, why didn’t she personally oversee its construction? I don’t believe she lacks the ability to build the altar! Besides, such copper rods can’t be refined quickly; it would take tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of years to perfect this treasure."
"That woman set me up! She never cared about my life," Zhang Chen said, feeling The Queen Mother of the West purposely targeted him.
"At her level of cultivation, it’s not just my life she disdains; the lives of countless beings in this Kunlun Mountain are probably beneath her notice." Zhang Chen thought of the warriors who perished over the millennia, dying batch after batch, utterly terrifying.
"All creatures under heaven and earth are but ants." Zhang Chen breathed in cold air; if only he had the skill to infiltrate the Library Pavilion, he’d sneak in and empty it to vent his anger.
While Zhang Chen’s mind was consumed with thoughts, suddenly a terrifying thunderclap sounded, and he saw a seven-colored lightning bolt, like a chain, slip down from the dark cloud towards the altar.
