Chapter 90 - 88: Mecha Weapons! Winning Hearts
Chapter 90: Chapter 88: Mecha Weapons! Winning Hearts
Lu Feng looked in the direction he was shown, raising the binoculars to get a view of the plaza. He had brought these with him from the real world.
The game world surely had binoculars—more advanced ones, even—but he had never bothered to look for them.
As Lu Feng looked at the plaza, he felt a sense of familiarity.
The plaza looked somewhat like a scene from the game.
A cutscene in the game’s story featured this exact plaza.
In the game’s plot, this entire Salvation Army unit was captured. The player character then took Lin Jiao and Wang Cheng to the City East Alliance, learned their identities, and Wang Cheng took matters into his own hands, triggering a story quest.
This then led to the discovery of a holographic map and the three Mecha weapons.
Lu Feng headed straight downstairs. Lin Jiao arrived with her people not long after. He led them to the area near the plaza, stopped the car, and had everyone gather around him.
"Boss, Conductor Lin, the City East Alliance and the Salvation Army unit have started fighting," a Hidden Guard’s voice crackled over the walkie-talkie.
Hearing this, Lu Feng sprinted toward the plaza.
Sure enough, he hadn’t gone far before he heard a series of gunshots.
As he drew closer, he saw that the uniformly dressed members of the City East Alliance had regrouped in the plaza, trapping the Salvation Army unit behind various forms of cover like the corners of walls.
The Salvation Army members were completely outmatched, suppressed and unable to effectively return fire.
The bodies of several Salvation Army members already littered the ground.
Under these circumstances, they had no hope of escape. Once their ammunition was spent, they would be captured or killed.
The leader of the City East Alliance group was a man with a hooked nose. Seeing that the Salvation Army unit was trapped like fish in a barrel, he immediately shouted, "Advance slowly. We need to leave two of them alive!"
BANG!
But as his words faded, a gunshot rang out from behind him. In an instant, his head exploded. He was dead from a headshot.
This sudden development stunned every member of the City East Alliance. Most of them spun around abruptly, only to see a large number of people had appeared behind them, each one aiming a weapon right at them.
A volley of gunfire erupted in unison.
Before the City East Alliance members could react, bullets riddled their bodies, killing them on the spot.
This shocked the remaining City East Alliance members, who, forgetting about the Salvation Army, frantically turned their guns around.
And just then, they noticed a single person charging straight toward them.
They didn’t hesitate for a second, aiming their muzzles at the charging man. Then, something happened that left them stunned.
They watched as bullets flew toward Lu Feng, only to be deflected by an energy barrier around his body, completely unable to harm him.
This sight left the City East Alliance members utterly astonished.
"An Ability User!"
"Bullets have no effect on him!"
"..."
Lu Feng, however, paid no mind to their shocked cries. He simply raised his two pistols and fired. Two bullets flew out, piercing through the heads of two men and killing them instantly.
He then fired another two shots, taking down two more.
’I have to take out as many of them as possible before my energy runs out.’
This had somehow become routine for him. It was a strange feeling. He recalled his first kill—the nausea, the inexplicable guilt he’d felt.
But after the last few times, he’d grown strangely indifferent to it.
’After all, this is the apocalypse, not the peaceful world of reality.’
Seeing her boss charge out, Lin Jiao seized the opportunity and led her people to attack.
She knew how formidable her boss was, and she knew this was the perfect moment to strike.
Wang Cheng also attacked decisively with his gun. His skill was so impressive that even Lin Jiao gave him a sideways glance. With a rifle in his hands, almost every shot he fired eliminated a member of the City East Alliance.
You could say he never missed.
The trapped Salvation Army unit noticed the situation outside and decisively launched a pincer attack on the City East Alliance.
In an instant, the City East Alliance forces were routed.
With an Ability User involved, they couldn’t possibly resist—especially Lu Feng. With his mastery of old-fashioned firearms, he was taking down an enemy with nearly every shot.
The gunfire gradually subsided. The City East Alliance forces dwindled, and with their commander taken out at the very beginning, the survivors chose to flee.
Unfortunately, they didn’t get far before they were all eliminated.
Lin Jiao immediately grabbed her walkie-talkie and asked the Hidden Guard, "Any survivors?"
The Hidden Guard was positioned on the highest rooftop, with a clear view of the entire battlefield.
"Reporting to Conductor Lin, no survivors spotted for now," the Hidden Guard’s reply came back immediately.
This reassured Lin Jiao. She then ordered, "Continue monitoring. Report any changes immediately!"
She then immediately ordered Guo Zhen, "Go check if these people are carrying any devices like locators or video recorders. If you find any, get rid of them, and then tamper with the scene!"
"Right, I know what to do." Guo Zhen nodded. Locators could lead the City East Alliance here, so they had to be tampered with to throw them off the trail. Video recorders would leave behind image evidence, but fortunately the entire city’s signal transmission network was already destroyed.
The video couldn’t be transmitted back, so as long as the devices were thoroughly destroyed, the City East Alliance would be none the wiser.
The battle was over, but the Salvation Army unit didn’t emerge. Instead, they remained wary of Lu Feng and his people.
This was normal in the apocalypse; no one dared to trust strangers upon first meeting.
Wang Cheng was the first to step forward, making a series of hand signals toward the Salvation Army members.
Lu Feng and the others couldn’t understand these signals, but one of the Salvation Army members came out and responded with similar gestures.
It was clearly some form of sign language.
A moment later, a member of the Salvation Army emerged.
Wang Cheng then took out a special military insignia.
The insignia projected a holographic display containing Wang Cheng’s information.
The insignia was apparently equipped with a simple holographic projection device.
After confirming Wang Cheng’s identity, the Salvation Army member immediately reported, "Captain Wang Cheng, our own captain has fallen. What are your orders?"
Wang Cheng put away the insignia and said, "Have everyone come out. The people from Qingfeng Base are our allies. They can give you sanctuary."
The Salvation Army member didn’t doubt Wang Cheng. He made a few hand signals, and a moment later, the other members of the unit emerged. Every one of them was injured.
One of them was the most seriously wounded; a bullet seemed to have grazed his neck, nicking an artery. If the bleeding wasn’t stopped, he was going to die any second.
Even in the real world, the chances of surviving such an injury were slim, even with immediate treatment in a fully equipped medical facility.
Seeing this, Lu Feng decided it was the perfect time to win them over.
He took the bottle of Life Potion from his inventory space and walked toward the wounded Salvation Army member.
The Salvation Army members already knew Lu Feng was an Ability User and didn’t dare get in his way. Plus, because of what Wang Cheng had said, they didn’t try to stop him, but only watched him nervously.
They had no idea what this powerful stranger intended to do.
When Lu Feng reached the man, he directly poured a bit of the Life Potion into his mouth.
This act captured everyone’s attention.
Then, as everyone looked at the Salvation Army soldier, an unbelievable scene unfolded.
Under the effects of the Life Potion, the wound on the man’s neck began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye.
This made all the Salvation Army members turn to stare at Lu Feng in astonishment.
They knew he was an Ability User, but they hadn’t expected a simple liquid he produced to have such a terrifyingly potent effect.
In just a few moments, the wound on the Salvation Army member’s neck healed completely. Though his face was still pale, he was clearly out of danger.
As shocking as it was, the gesture also made the members of the Salvation Army look at Lu Feng with immense gratitude.
