Chapter 422: Something’s Wrong! Seeking Death

Chapter 422 -397: Something’s Wrong! Seeking Death

When Lu Feng heard Lin Jiao and the others, he immediately realized the Hexagonal Beast disaster had begun.

The zombie and Mutant Beast armies it controlled had already entered Celestial Sea City.

Celestial Sea City was about to face its moment of life and death.

Just then, a survivor rushed in, shouting, “Boss, bad news! A huge army of zombies and Mutant Beasts has gathered outside the East Suburban Area. They’re approaching us now!”

Hearing this, Lu Feng’s brow furrowed.

‘Something’s not right.’

‘The Mutant Beasts’ and zombies’ target should be the City East Alliance, not our East Suburb Fortress.’

‘If we’re the target, things are about to get interesting.’

“Let’s go see.” Lu Feng didn’t hesitate. He immediately led his people out of the hall, telling the survivor to lead the way.

At the same time, the base’s alarms began to blare.

Lin Jiao quickly rallied the survivors of Qingfeng Base. By the time Lu Feng left the main building, most of them had already assembled, falling in behind him as they marched in a single direction.

Before long, Lu Feng, led by the scout, arrived at a high-rise building.

From the top of the building, he could clearly see an army composed of Mutant Beasts and zombies rapidly gathering in the distance, their numbers swelling by the second.

‘Judging by the direction and location of their rally point, they’re definitely coming for the East Suburb Fortress.’

‘But seeing this, he relaxed slightly. The numbers and scale were nothing like what was shown in the game; the difference was huge.’

‘In other words, this isn’t the main force of the Hexagonal Beast’s army.’

‘It must be just a small contingent.’

Lu Feng understood.

‘The Hexagonal Beast is dividing its forces.’

‘It’s using these zombies and Mutant Beasts to attack, pressuring the other bases.’

‘How will the survivors at those bases react when they’re attacked?’

‘Most likely, they’ll either ask the City East Alliance for help or abandon their bases and flee to the Alliance.’

‘The Hexagonal Beast’s goal is to force all of Celestial Sea City’s survivors to gather in one place, making them easy to wipe out all at once.’

‘This is a little different from the game’s backstory.’

‘In the game, the Hexagonal Beast wasn’t this clever. It just destroyed bases one by one, no matter how many survivors were inside.’

‘That undoubtedly wasted a lot of its time.’

‘But now, it actually knows to split its forces to compel everyone to gather at the City East Alliance, where it can then sweep them all away in one go.’

“Boss, the Mutant Beasts and zombies are on the move,” Lin Jiao urged.

Lu Feng looked and saw the tide of zombies and Mutant Beasts rapidly surging toward the East Suburb Fortress.

Lu Feng didn’t hesitate and immediately gave the order. “Tell everyone to prepare for battle! Intercept them! Don’t let them inside the East Suburb Fortress!”

“Yes, Boss.” Lin Jiao nodded and immediately began relaying orders through her communicator.

The people of Qingfeng Base moved quickly, heading for the zombies’ inevitable path and using the surrounding buildings and advantageous terrain to set up defensive positions.

Howitzers, anti-aircraft guns, and other heavy weapons were moved into position. Their operators rapidly calibrated them, aiming at the oncoming horde.

The distant zombie horde converged, advancing swiftly toward Qingfeng Base’s ambush point. Flanking the tide of undead were packs of Mutant Beasts.

Under the Hexagonal Beast’s influence, the Mutant Beasts weren’t attacking each other. Instead, they advanced as one toward a single destination.

Just then, the roar of artillery fire erupted.

The howitzers, anti-aircraft guns, and other heavy weapons opened fire, their shells landing amidst the zombie horde and Mutant Beasts.

The explosions sent ordinary zombies flying, tearing their bodies to shreds. Even the sturdier Mutant Beasts were thrown back by the shockwaves.

Some of the weaker Mutant Beasts were killed instantly by the barrage.

Others, however, were completely unharmed. They scrambled back to their feet and resumed their charge.

The more powerful Mutant Beasts had already pinpointed the ambush and were now charging madly toward the Qingfeng Base defenders.

It wasn’t just the Mutant Beasts; a number of zombies also sprinted toward the ambush position at incredible speeds.

At that moment, Wang Cheng and Guo Zhen charged out. Both clad in Mecha, they fearlessly plunged into the throng of Mutant Beasts.

None of these were Mutated Beast Kings, and since both men possessed two abilities, they could handle the creatures with ease.

Lin Jiao led Qingfeng Base’s other ability users in a charge against the incoming mutated zombies.

Their mission was to stop these creatures from disrupting the heavy artillery’s bombardment.

As long as the artillery could continue clearing the field, the zombies would fall in droves, and the horde could be quickly wiped out.

Besides, with Qingfeng Base’s current strength, handling these mutated zombies and Mutant Beasts was no problem.

The Hexagonal Beast had miscalculated the strength of the East Suburb Fortress.

Lu Feng also strode out, charging straight at the Mutant Beasts and mutated zombies.

‘He hadn’t had a chance to farm experience since the Hexagonal Beast summoned away all the Mutant Beasts and zombies in Celestial Sea City.’

‘Today would be a good day to grind.’

He had unlocked the second stage of his genetic ability, so these mutated zombies and Mutant Beasts couldn’t harm him at all. They couldn’t even break through his energy barrier.

As a result, he easily slaughtered the Mutant Beasts and mutated zombies that swarmed him.

The long-awaited experience notifications chimed in his mind.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

…

The roar of the heavy weapons continued to tear across the battlefield.

Caught in Qingfeng Base’s ambush, the zombies fell in swathes, their dense ranks quickly thinning out.

At last, all the mutated zombies and Mutant Beasts were taken care of. The people of Qingfeng Base had joined forces to crush the zombie horde, successfully stopping it outside the East Suburb Fortress. Since the fortress was never breached, they naturally had no reason to flee to the City East Alliance, foiling the Hexagonal Beast’s plan.

“Boss, what are your orders now?” Lin Jiao asked.

“Have everyone return to the East Suburb Fortress and remain on high alert. I’m going to scout the outskirts of Celestial Sea City.” After giving his instructions to Lin Jiao, Lu Feng took a motorcycle from his inventory space and headed toward the city.

He hadn’t been driving for long before he saw the Hexagonal Beast’s impact on Celestial Sea City. Shortly after entering the city limits, he encountered a group of survivors coming toward him.

Among the survivors, one man seemed to get an idea about Lu Feng’s motorcycle.

Spotting the motorcycle, he turned to the pregnant woman beside him. “Looks like someone’s delivering a ride right to our doorstep. I’ll go grab it, and we can get to the City East Alliance that much faster.”

He then dashed toward Lu Feng with extreme speed. He was a Speed Ability User.

He charged straight at Lu Feng.
