Chapter 298: Chapter 143: Demon Lord Bai Suzhen, The Summoned Assembly
Hong Miaojin looked at him with a grave expression. "Elder, I fear your injuries weren’t caused by the Demon Alliance alone, were they? I sense the aura of a Demon Sect. Did people from a Demon Sect attack as well?"
Yang Tian nodded lightly.
"Which Demon Sect was it?" Hong Miaojin asked.
"The Jiuyou Demon Sect."
Yang Tian spoke a name.
Jiuyou!
Hong Miaojin’s pupils contracted slightly.
"The Jiuyou Demon Sect?"
’Which Demon Sect is that?’
Fang Xing wondered to himself.
’This is the first time I’ve ever heard of this Demon Sect.’
’There are only two Demon Path Upper Sects within Great Jing.’
’One is the Blood Demon Sect, the other is the Earth Demon Sect!’
’As for the other Demon Sects, they’re all insignificant.’
’Those two Demon Path Upper Sects are the ones that rule over everything else.’
’But the Jiuyou Demon Sect must also be a Demon Path Upper Sect. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have the power to injure a Martial Saint.’
’If it’s not from Great Jing, it must be a Demon Sect from within Great Wei’s territory.’
’The Southern Border shares a border with Great Wei, so that’s not impossible.’
"Elder Yang, who was it that attacked?" Hong Miaojin asked, looking at Yang Tian.
"Bai Suzhen." Yang Tian spoke a name.
"..."
Standing to the side, Fang Xing was stunned when he heard this name.
’Bai Suzhen??’
’That name...’
’It’s certainly caught me by surprise.’
"You mean Bai Suzhen, the First Demon Lord of the Jiuyou Demon Sect?" Hong Miaojin stared at him, her face filled with disbelief.
Yang Tian nodded lightly and sighed. "When we fought, I carelessly fell into her trap. Her Divine Techniques are bizarre, and her Martial Arts are unfathomably deep. Girl, you must be careful and on guard against her in the future."
Hong Miaojin nodded at his words.
’First Demon Lord...’
To the side, Fang Xing mentally noted all of this.
...
About half an hour later, Fang Xing and Hong Miaojin rose and left the residence.
"Commander, is the Jiuyou Demon Sect one of the sects within Great Wei?"
As they stepped out of the Commander’s residence, Fang Xing asked in a low voice.
Hong Miaojin nodded. "Yes. It’s Great Wei’s sole Demon Sect, and its power far surpasses that of the Blood Demon Sect and the Earth Demon Sect."
"They’re that powerful!"
A chill ran through Fang Xing.
’Great Wei’s number one Demon Sect has already infiltrated the Southern Border. It looks like they’ve reached an agreement with the Demon Alliance.’
’Their ambitions probably aren’t limited to a single state or province. I’m afraid they want to use the Southern Border to set their sights on all of Great Jing.’
’But the higher-ups have probably already learned of this.’
’When the sky falls, the tall ones will hold it up. For now, this has nothing to do with me.’
Fang Xing told himself, calming down.
’My strength is nothing in the face of such behemoths.’
’These are not giants I can deal with.’
’Soldiers fight soldiers, generals fight generals, and kings fight kings!’
’There will naturally be more powerful beings to deal with them.’
"Commander."
Just as the two of them stepped out of the residence, Wei Qing appeared, striding forward quickly. "Reporting, Commander. Everyone has arrived. They are all at the Observatory Platform waiting for you."
Hong Miaojin nodded. "Let’s go."
"This way, Commander!" Wei Qing said respectfully, and Hong Miaojin strode forward with purpose.
Fang Xing followed closely behind her.
A short while later, the trio arrived at the Observatory Platform.
The Observatory Platform was where the Observatory gathered for important matters.
In the center stood a fifteen-foot-high platform.
Below the platform, many figures had already gathered.
They were divided into four columns.
All primary and deputy officials were present.
The hierarchy was more or less complete.
They were almost all at the True Qi Realm or higher in their Cultivation.
The other three Marshals and several Vice Marshals were also present.
It was a grand scene!
The faint smell of alcohol lingered on many of them.
When Fang Xing and the other two arrived, the once-bustling crowd immediately fell silent.
The area became so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Hong Miaojin swept her gaze over the crowd. Her eyes were calm and her face betrayed no emotion as she stepped onto the central platform.
Fang Xing stood to one side below the platform.
"It seems you’re all in high spirits. Every one of you is flushed and glowing."
Hong Miaojin’s voice rang out, her tone flat.
But despite the flat delivery, her tone was filled with a creeping chill.
The four Marshals lowered their heads in silence.
The faces of the Commanders and Vice Commanders turned pale.
They had only realized the new Commander had arrived when they were summoned to assemble, and she had happened to catch them right in the act.
"What, have the people of the Observatory all become useless winos?" The voice rang out again, a thunderclap that echoed in their minds.
Below the platform, the expressions on the crowd’s faces shifted, but not a single person dared to make a sound.
In the presence of a Celestial Martial Saint, a mere wisp of her aura was enough to make it difficult for them to breathe.
They had been caught red-handed by the newly appointed Commander; there was no denying it.
The timing, the circumstances—it was all too much of a coincidence.
"A mere Demon Evil Cult, a pack of ghouls and goblins, has made you lose all your courage? If you’re going to live in a drunken stupor, then what’s the point of staying in the Observatory?"
"Does the Court pay you just to be useless freeloaders?"
"Since when did Great Jing become a land ruled by Demons and Monsters?"
"Or is it that some among you have willingly degenerated and are colluding with Demons and Monsters!"
Each reprimand was like a thunderclap exploding beside their ears.
But at her last sentence, the faces of the crowd grew even paler.
Even the four Marshals’ expressions changed.
Yet no one dared to speak.
Even while being berated, they had to take it.
After all, this was indeed the reality of the situation.
They had no grounds for rebuttal.
Besides, she had just taken office. No one wanted to incur the wrath of a Martial Saint.
Throughout the entire assembly, the only one who seemed perfectly at ease was probably Fang Xing.
...
After her tirade, Hong Miaojin’s expression returned to normal.
Her gaze fell upon the crowd. "I can overlook what happened before. But if something like this happens again, I will hold you accountable and see you severely punished!"
Hearing this, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief, the four Marshals included.
