Chapter 120: Chapter 96: Are These People Really Migrant Workers?

Wu Hai was one of Chen Hu’s most capable subordinates. He used to follow Chen Hu and made a name for himself in You City, earning the nickname Hai.

In the past, people would cower at the mere mention of his name.

But not anymore. He had to keep a low profile; the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

Act tough and you die first.

However, he was only keeping a low profile. It didn’t mean he’d gone soft.

Guys like them usually laid low, but now was the time to act.

This rival construction team was working so hard it was putting them out of business. So, just as Hu said, it was time for a confrontation.

As night fell, Wu Hai led a dozen or so men into Li Yuan Farm, heading straight for the construction site. He was even carrying a club for intimidation.

After dark, Li Yuan Farm was empty of tourists and eerily quiet. But as they neared the site, the distant clamor of construction reached them.

The men with Wu Hai started to complain:

"Hai, are these guys crazy? Why aren’t they resting?"

"Yeah, it’s just a construction project. Why are they killing themselves over it?"

"..."

"That’s why Hu sent us to put a little fear into them," Wu Hai said, already leading his men onto the site.

Not far away, Chen Hu was watching the scene unfold through a pair of binoculars. Using the light from the Li Yuan Farm construction site, he could see Wu Hai and his men arrive.

He was eager to see if this rival construction team would still dare to work so hard after his men delivered a "warning."

After leading his men onto the site, Wu Hai took a moment to compose his features, making himself look more ferocious.

After all, he’d gotten soft from the easy life of contracting and couldn’t summon his old ferocity at a moment’s notice like he used to.

After a moment, feeling his expression was sufficiently menacing, he gripped his club, strode further into the site, and bellowed, "Who’s in charge here?"

The construction workers glanced at him, then went back to their work as if nothing was wrong.

Instead, a worker who seemed to be on watch duty stepped forward and said, "Sir, this is a construction site. Authorized personnel only."

This reminder left Wu Hai dumbfounded.

’Am I not looking menacing enough?’

’I’m here with a dozen guys, obviously looking for trouble, and they can’t see it? They’re actually warning me about unauthorized entry?’

"Who’s your boss? Get him out here," Wu Hai demanded, his voice turning vicious. He even gave the worker who had warned him a hard shove.

But with that one push, the worker pulled out a whistle, put it to his lips, and blew a sharp blast.

The moment the whistle sounded, Wu Hai witnessed a startling scene. In perfect unison, the construction workers all stopped what they were doing, turned to face his group, then grabbed their nearby tools and started to surround them.

The atmosphere suddenly felt wrong.

Wu Hai found himself subconsciously swallowing.

’How could their movements be so perfectly synchronized?’

’It’s like they’ve had military training.’

More and more of them were coming. The entire crew from the site was gathering around them.

"Who do you think you’re scaring?" Wu Hai was a veteran of the streets, after all. Knowing he couldn’t show weakness now, he roared at the crowd, trying to intimidate them with sheer bravado.

THUD!

Suddenly, Wu Hai felt himself being flipped and slammed to the ground.

It was the worker who had blown the whistle.

Before he could even react, two other workers had pressed sledgehammers to his head.

He was completely fucking stunned.

’How was I taken down in that split second?’

’I couldn’t even put up a fight.’

Shouts and agonizing screams filled the air.

When Wu Hai was hauled to his feet, he saw that all dozen or so of the men he’d brought with him had been taken down. Every single one was pinned to the ground.

"This..."

Wu Hai’s face went pale. Before he had time to process what was happening, the workers brought out ropes and tied him up. His men were given the same treatment.

Watching from a distance, Chen Hu’s jaw dropped. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

He’d sent his men to cause trouble, not to serve themselves up on a platter!

He knew what Wu Hai and his men were capable of. This shouldn’t be happening.

’Are these guys fucking ordinary construction workers?’

Meanwhile, Zhang Lin had just gotten home when a notification for a special event appeared in his mind:

[Urgent Event at the Campsite Construction Site: A dozen or so thugs were causing a disturbance but have been apprehended by the construction crew. Please call the police immediately!]

Zhang Lin checked the game map in his mind, and sure enough, an exclamation point marking an urgent event had appeared over the campsite.

’But why would someone be causing trouble at the campsite this late at night? It couldn’t be those bastards from Kailin Investment, could it?’

’Either way, a matter like this should be handed over to the police.’

With that thought, he took out his phone and dialed his cousin, Zhang Zhao.

A dozen thugs causing trouble at a construction site was already a public order issue, and stopping them would be a nice bit of credit for any officer. But for them to be causing trouble at the site of a business the county was paying close attention to? That implicitly raised the stakes, and the credit for handling it would be that much greater.

So, when it came to a gift-wrapped achievement like this, of course he’d think of his cousin.

The call connected quickly, and Zhang Zhao’s voice came through. "Lin, what’s up this late? I’m in the middle of a major life event here!"

"Zhao, are you on a date?" Zhang Lin asked with a laugh.

"If you have something to say, spit it out," Zhang Zhao said irritably.

Zhang Lin got straight to the point. "A dozen or so thugs came to cause trouble at my farm’s construction site, and the workers caught them. I’m calling to let you know so you can come pick them up."

"Thugs were causing trouble at your site?" Zhang Zhao shot up from his seat. "I’m on my way with my team."

This was intolerable. What century was this, that thugs were still allowed to run wild? And they had the gall to do it on his own cousin’s farm.
