I Can See Experience Points
Chapter 93 - 92: [Why Is My Face Swollen?]
Chapter 93: Chapter 92: [Why Is My Face Swollen?]
Then, He Xiaotian felt a headache coming on.
It was basically confirmed that no one in Zhou Family Village had survived. There was no telling how many of these weakling corpse ghouls were lurking about.
If they weren’t eliminated immediately, they could wreak havoc on the entire region.
’If one or two escape, how many innocent victims will there be?’
But he couldn’t just ignore Lei Yang and the others, either.
If some evil spirit suddenly appeared and wiped them out while they were seriously injured and unconscious, that would be a real disaster.
And so, He Xiaotian raised his sinful hand.
He swung it right at Lei Yang’s face.
"SLAP!!"
The crisp sound of the slap echoed throughout Zhou Family Village.
He Xiaotian had held back his strength with that slap. Otherwise, Lei Yang’s head would have been blown clean off.
After all, thirty-six points of strength converted to over 28,000 jin of force.
"Who is it?!"
Lei Yang was jolted awake instantly. It hurt like hell.
He felt his left cheek go completely numb.
And it was swelling up, turning red before his very eyes.
"Ish id obah?" Lei Yang asked, looking at the familiar mask. "Huh? Whad’s wong wiff my fayth? Why can’d I feel my lef’ cheek ad all?"
"Ahem." He Xiaotian coughed awkwardly. He hadn’t expected to use that much force. "Don’t worry about the details. I just wanted to wake you up. Do you have any strength left? There are still a lot of evil spirits in the village. If we ignore them, they might escape and cause chaos in Shanghai. I plan to go clean them up and resolve this whole thing perfectly."
That’s what he said, anyway. What he was actually thinking was, ’Fifty Experience Points might not seem like much, but when the numbers stack up, it’s pretty substantial!’
How strong was that crocodile at the bottom of the Pujiang River?
It was worth fifty thousand points!
But here in Zhou Family Village, wiping out the Mirror Spirits and Dream Eyes had netted him over a hundred thousand Experience Points.
And that was only because Lei Yang and Captain Su had injured many of them first.
Otherwise, by He Xiaotian’s estimate, if all the Mirror Spirits had been at full health, he could have at least doubled that hundred thousand!
So these days, it was better to kill minions than fight bosses.
Not only did he not have to risk his life, but it was also much safer.
"Yoo go on, I can shdill hol’ on. Wai’, wuzz id yoo dat shlapped my fayth?"
"...Yes. In the movies, they always slap unconscious people to wake them up." He Xiaotian couldn’t bluff his way out of this one and could only bite the bullet and answer.
Tears streamed down Lei Yang’s face. ’What did I do in my past life to deserve this?’ he thought.
’Isn’t slapping someone’s face a method used to keep them awake in a frozen wasteland?!’
’I was just unconscious! Couldn’t you have been a little gentler?’
’Besides, you actually believe the stuff you see in movies?’
"HISS!!"
The thought made his left cheek throb even more painfully.
And it felt like his teeth were a little loose, too.
’Don’t you have a goddamn clue what kind of weapons you use?’
’Two giant iron hammers as tall as a man! Your Divine Power is clearly Unrivaled.’
’Couldn’t you have hit me a little lighter?!’
’I, Lei Yang, am a Level 2 Police Inspector, a deputy section chief, for crying out loud.’
’Don’t I have a reputation to maintain?!’
"You rest up. I’ll be right back."
He Xiaotian’s scalp tingled under Lei Yang’s resentful glare.
He immediately turned and ran off to clear out the corpse ghouls.
"Wai’! Dage dis."
Lei Yang gritted his teeth against the sharp pain in his left cheek as he spoke, pulling a tablet from his coat.
He then turned it on, verified his fingerprint, and opened an application that could detect evil spirit signatures.
He Xiaotian’s eyelid twitched. ’So this thing has a fingerprint scanner.’
’Damn, just what you’d expect from the R&D guys. So cautious.’
’I can understand how Zhou Yun’s tablet survived unscathed.’
’After all, that woman was practically a bystander the whole time.’
’But you’ve been in one fight after another, and this thing doesn’t have a single scratch on it. What is it made of?’
"Shpeshal alloy."
Lei Yang seemed to have noticed the question in his eyes and answered through the pain.
"Fighn!"
He Xiaotian was speechless at his response.
Special alloys were military-grade materials; you couldn’t buy them even if you had the money.
It might just be the casing for a tablet, but it was worth at least a hundred thousand, if not more.
If every city Cleaner was issued one of these, the expense would be enormous.
The so-called Cleaners were definitely not a phenomenon unique to Shanghai.
He Xiaotian turned, looked at the red dots on the tablet, and began his "cleanup" operation—or rather, his "Experience Point farming" expedition.
Lei Yang watched his retreating back, a frown creasing his brow.
’I vaguely remember him being over two meters tall before, right?’
’But now he looks a lot shorter.’
’Around 180cm?’
’Are you made of sponge or something?!’
’Able to expand and contract at will.’
’No wonder Department 037 has been investigating for days without a single clue.’
’With a height that can change like that, only a ghost could find the real guy!’
Lei Yang reached his right hand into his coat, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, took one out, lit it, and took a long, hard drag.
He looked at Captain Su, as well as Zheng Peng and the other two, lying beside him and smiled.
’It’s good to be alive.’
"BOOM!"
A loud crash came from a one-story house on a street in Zhou Family Village.
[Ding! You have slain a corpse ghoul. You have gained 50 Experience Points.]
He Xiaotian looked at the corpse ghoul he had smashed to pulp with a single swing of his hammer and shook his head helplessly.
’The reward is too low!’
This was the ninetieth one he had killed. He had been at it for half an hour and had only managed to get 4,500 Experience Points.
"Last spot!"
Holding the tablet in one hand and a hammer in the other, he walked back to a familiar place.
[Kui Family Inn]
The shattered doors and walls, along with the cratered street, all indicated that a great battle had taken place here earlier.
Entering the inn again, he walked to the end of the first-floor hallway.
"The red dot is right on top of my position. Does that mean the main target is below me?"
True to form, He Xiaotian aimed at the floor and swung the hammer in his right hand down with all his might.
"CRASH!"
The concrete shattered, and he fell straight through the hole.
"WHOOSH!"
Azure flames immediately erupted, illuminating his surroundings.
It was a basement of about forty square meters. The surrounding walls were all covered with large yellow cloths, on which strange-looking talismans seemed to have been drawn with cinnabar.
In the very center sat a mahogany coffin, surrounded by white candles arranged in the pattern of the Early Heaven Bagua.
Seven figures, dressed in sackcloth and mourning attire, knelt before the coffin with their heads bowed in a penitent pose.
If they were living people, they would have probably jumped up in fright when the ceiling caved in.
Each of these bodies was bound with red hemp rope.
"What’s that smell?"
He Xiaotian frowned as he walked closer to observe them carefully.
"Injected with mercury? To preserve the bodies? No, that’s not right. In folklore, bodies injected with mercury can trap the soul inside. The red hemp ropes seem to signify the same thing—sealing the soul."
