I Can See Experience Points
Chapter 123 - 122: Gate of Greed
Chapter 123: Chapter 122: Gate of Greed
The people in the conference room were utterly speechless.
The deputy chief, who used to curse out anyone he could get his hands on, was now fawning over a civilian prodigy.
It was truly a first for everything.
For some reason, seeing Roger in such an awkward spot just felt so satisfying to everyone.
He Xiaotian stretched his limbs, glanced at the constantly flashing red dots on the detector on his arm, bent his knees, and shot forward in an instant.
On the large screen in the Cleaner conference room, they saw the surrounding buildings rapidly retreating into a blur. Everyone was dumbfounded.
’Wasn’t this guy a triple-system prodigy?’
’Why is he so fast, too?!’
"Use X’s portable detector as a signal source and send a message to everyone on Huayang Road. Warn them not to let themselves be caught in the darkness. Also, tell them to be on guard against the aberrations in the shadows."
The aberrations, their bodies covered in twisted, hard bone spikes, were clearly no match for He Xiaotian’s heavy hammer.
These things were just ordinary pets before they died.
Even though they had been enhanced in every way by the Shadow that Devours the World, they were still pathetically weak.
[Ding! You have killed a Bone Cat and gained 100 Experience Points.]
[Ding! You have killed a Frenzy Dog and gained 150 Experience Points.]
With the notification messages constantly scrolling in the top-left of his vision, He Xiaotian went about his reaping with even more gusto.
The security doors of the good people of Huayang Road were in for a world of hurt.
He Xiaotian didn’t have time to go door-to-door, knocking and waiting to be politely invited in to hammer the aberrations.
As long as a red dot flashed on his detector, he would just kick the door down, walk in, and kill the reconstituted pet with one blow of his hammer, right in front of the owner.
Of course, the city’s Cleaners had already explained in the message that they would be sending someone to deal with these aberrations, and to please not panic or take any drastic actions.
Because there was a very real possibility that you might get hammered, too.
It was a good thing they’d given a heads-up and people were mentally prepared.
Otherwise, a lot of people probably would have pissed their pants in fear.
A muscle-bound brute taller than Yao Ming, shimmering with golden light and wielding a vicious-looking hammer.
Wasn’t that scarier than the aberrations?
It was expected that Shanghai’s security door and home renovation markets would see a boom tomorrow.
"We can’t keep this under wraps anymore."
Roger watched He Xiaotian swiftly killing the aberrations and sighed, shaking his head.
How many people lived on Huayang Road?
Trying to silence them all would be difficult.
Besides, the higher-ups had been leaning toward publicly disclosing information about evil spirits and aberrations recently.
These days, there was no shortage of young people who dared to court death.
He believed that in a few days, an announcement would be made, followed by a nationwide inspection.
This was actually why the Cleaners hadn’t made a big fuss about investigating He Xiaotian’s identity.
After the Pujiang Giant Crocodile incident, Department 037 had conducted a population survey.
They had secretly screened everyone who had moved from Z County to Shanghai, but the results were not good.
They hadn’t found anyone among them who had awakened.
So they had no choice but to shelve the search plan.
Sooner or later, it made no difference anyway.
Just as He Xiaotian was happily hammering aberrations, the mysterious portal carved with strange patterns descended once more.
This time, it wasn’t the mysterious Mr. Men who walked out, but four burly, well-built men.
They were dressed in armor that resembled that of an ancient army, and they all wielded standard-issue steel sabers.
"Just one Martial Artist from the mortal world. Why did the Lord dispatch the four of us?" one of them muttered, rather displeased.
"Shut up. Are you questioning the Lord’s decision?" The other three’s gazes instantly turned dangerous.
You could tell that if his answer was the slightest bit off, they would have hacked him to pieces.
"No, no... that’s not it. I just think any one of us is capable of killing the target."
This slightly fawning remark made the other three’s expressions soften considerably.
It was a classic case of mutual back-scratching; you couldn’t just go and chop someone up for praising you, could you?
"Within the Gate of Greed, the Lord’s will is the will of us all. There’s a reason he sent the four of us. Besides, I’d also like to see for myself one of these so-called Martial Artists from the mortal world."
BOOM!!
A loud bang came from not far away.
"I smell blood. Let’s go take a look. I hope it’s our target so we can return to the Netherworld sooner. Then we won’t have to be on edge in this Shadow that Devours the World," the leader said with extreme disgust.
He was clearly repulsed by the darkness.
"Don’t worry. The power the Lord bestowed upon us is enough to resist the Shadow that Devours the World until dawn."
As soon as he finished speaking, the four of them sped toward the source of the sound.
Their speed was even faster than some newly awakened speed-type prodigies.
He Xiaotian looked at the man cowering in the corner who had pissed his pants in fear and really wanted to give him a taste of his hammer, too.
’Who keeps a vicious dog in a residential complex?’
’And that’s not all, the fucking owner didn’t even have it on a leash.’
’There was only a cage at home, but unfortunately, an iron cage couldn’t stop a Tibetan Mastiff that had turned into an aberration.’
’If I’d known, I would’ve shown up a little later and let it bite you to death!’
"M-m-my... My Fluffy is a very good boy."
The dog owner seemed to have read He Xiaotian’s expression and explained haltingly.
’The fuck are you talking about?’
’A "good boy" doesn’t need a leash?’
’A beast is a beast because it lacks the ability to control its emotions.’
’Once it goes berserk, it wouldn’t matter if you were its owner or its own father—it would still eat you alive.’
’Haven’t you seen the zookeepers who’ve been tragically mauled to death by tigers?!’
"Roger, you see this? Memorize this guy’s face. After this is all over, arrest him, take him to the police station, and lock him up for eight or ten years! And if you’ve got a tiger bench and some chili water, use them on him, one after the other."
’The deputy chief in the conference room desperately wanted to grab He Xiaotian by the collar, turn into a hairdryer, and just blast him with hot air.’
’Do you think the police station is your personal property?’
’Arrest who you want, when you want? Lock them up for eight or ten years just because you say so?’
’You’re even bringing up tiger benches and chili water? Using private torture these days will land you in court and then in jail!’
’You’re so damn badass, why don’t you just ascend to the heavens?’
"No problem. Anything you say. As long as you can protect the people of Huayang Road, we’ll do whatever you want," Roger said, changing his tune the moment the words reached his lips.
He had no choice. He was counting on this bigshot, He Xiaotian, to resolve the matter for him perfectly.
At a time like this, the guy was basically his daddy; he had to be coddled.
As for whether the dog owner would be arrested or locked up afterward, that would depend on whether he’d done anything illegal in the past.
Sigh!
’Everything I, Roger, have done today is for the safety of the masses. That’s why I’m enduring this humiliation.’
’It’s definitely not to avoid punishment from the Capital City headquarters.’
The group looked at their deputy chief’s ’profound’ eyes and nodded hurriedly in agreement.
As for what they were agreeing to, they had no idea.
Sucking up was all that mattered!!
He Xiaotian had just walked out of the residential complex, ready to go to the next location to farm Experience Points... I mean, save the masses.
He ran headlong into the four burly men.
The men had unfriendly expressions, and one by one, they drew the steel sabers from their waists.
They quickly spread out, subtly forming an encirclement.
???
Utterly confused, He Xiaotian was a bit dumbfounded.
’What’s going on here?’
