Chapter 119: Chapter 118: Mr. Men

A door of some unknown material appeared abruptly.

Intricate patterns, like ancient seal script, were carved around its edges.

If you looked away, you would find you couldn’t recall the patterns at all.

Carved into the door itself were the myriad states of all living things—their joys, angers, sorrows, and delights.

There were also rampant evil spirits, terrifying monstrosities, and frequent natural disasters.

Maniacal laughter, furious roars, ambition, cruelty, viciousness, despair, miracles.

All of this was expressed vividly upon a single door.

He Xiaotian narrowed his eyes, staring intently at the bizarrely appearing door.

His muscles tensed, and he gripped his hammers, ready to strike.

The moment something seemed off, he would erupt and kill!

"CREAK!"

The door was pushed open from the inside.

"STEP."

A foot wearing a blue cloth shoe stepped out, followed by a living, breathing person who emerged from within.

The man wore silken robes, his jet-black hair tied up with a bamboo hairpin.

His face was scholarly and refined; he looked like a teacher.

Of course, He Xiaotian wasn’t naive enough to think he was actually a teacher.

This door had appeared out of thin air, and now a person had walked out of it.

One could imagine this was not someone to be trifled with.

He took a deep breath and then spoke. "A familiar scent. The curse of Gluttony has always been so delectable and alluring."

Those words made the hairs on He Xiaotian’s entire body stand on end.

He had learned from the beefy man that the Gluttonous King’s curse acted like the world’s most delicious seasoning, attracting all nearby evil spirits and monstrosities.

Like moths to a flame, they would come for him ceaselessly, fearlessly charging to their deaths.

For this man to immediately mention a "familiar scent" and refer to the Gluttonous King simply as "Gluttony" suggested they were on intimate terms.

’Is this motherfucker a thousand-year-old demon?’

"Don’t be so tense."

His voice was soft, as if greeting an old friend. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

He Xiaotian’s mood suddenly improved a bit. At least the other party was sending a signal of goodwill.

But of course, he couldn’t let his guard down. Who knew if this guy was like him—the way he’d treated Wu Li from the Gourmet Kitchen, chatting amiably one second and turning murderous the next.

Then, the man’s next sentence almost made him smash a hammer into his face.

"I’m here to kill you."

"..."

’Gan Liniang!’

If he weren’t so unsure of this person’s strength, He Xiaotian would have definitely taught him why flowers are so red.

’Believe it or not, I’ll smash your face until it’s pockmarked!’

"However, I’ve changed my mind."

’You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?’

He Xiaotian’s expression was a sight to behold. It was the first time he’d met someone who could back him into a corner like this.

’Would it kill you to not pause so dramatically between sentences?’

’I’m not angry. I’m not angry. I absolutely cannot lose my cool. Hotheads always die the most miserable deaths.’

He was usually a bit reckless, but that was always based on the foundation of his own superior strength.

Now he’d run into this master of unknown depth, who’d emerged from the Bronze Sect—a door that was clearly no ordinary object. If he chose to remain reckless, the outcome likely wouldn’t be good.

"I didn’t think that besides people from the Netherworld, people of the Real World also practiced martial arts. You remind me of a friend. A very interesting friend. It’s a pity, though. He’s dead. I killed him."

The refined man had a reminiscent look on his face.

He Xiaotian: "..."

’I have no idea how to continue this conversation. You may not have paused dramatically this time, but how can your words be so damn creepy?’

"Gluttony said that if I killed you, he would prepare a King’s Banquet for me for a whole month. I agreed. After all, he’s the best chef in the Netherworld," the refined man said with a smile. The desire in his eyes when he mentioned the King’s Banquet was unmistakable.

He Xiaotian was horrified. ’The Gluttonous King is the best chef in the Netherworld?’

’Just what in the world are you?!’

’And a King’s Banquet... that sounds like a big deal.’

’Does the Gluttonous King really hate me this much?’

’A super-big boss, just to get me killed.’

’He’s willing to be someone’s personal chef for a month.’

’He’s even willing to lower his status. Ptooey! Shameless bastard.’

’Holy shit!’

’Didn’t we just have a small war of words?’

’Do you really have to go this far?!’

At this thought, He Xiaotian was on the verge of tears. He hadn’t gotten rid of the curse in time, which had allowed this guy to follow the scent right to him.

’Shopkeeper, oh shopkeeper, you really screwed me over.’

’Why didn’t I go to XZ earlier?’

’If the curse had been lifted, maybe this guy would have gone after Zheng Peng instead!’

In the exclusive medical room for the Cleaners, the Ice Man sneezed.

"When you kill, I find it very admirable. Cruel enough. I like it."

A shiver ran down He Xiaotian’s spine.

"And your martial arts are quite different from those in the Netherworld. They seem to follow the exact same path as those people from the Real World a few hundred years ago. Of course, most of them were not as strong as you."

The refined man didn’t notice He Xiaotian’s hesitant expression and continued.

"Right, I almost forgot to introduce myself. You can call me Mr. Men, a pitiful person who wanders the borderline. Perhaps... I should still be considered a person, shouldn’t I?"

As his words fell, the corner of He’s mouth twitched.

’Bro, how am I supposed to respond to that?’

’What do you mean, "should still be considered a person"?!’

’Besides, you talk about "a few hundred years" so casually. If you look into your heart and say you’re a person, I doubt even you would believe it!’

"You remind me of that very good friend, so I’ve decided to give up."

Hearing this, He Xiaotian breathed a sigh of relief.

But Mr. Men’s next words made his heart leap back into his throat.

"I have a test for you. If you can pass it, you will receive a tremendous benefit. What do you say?" He was still smiling, his narrowed eyes completely devoid of killing intent.

"What kind of benefit?"

Not knowing the details of Mr. Men’s background or strength, the natural course of action was to play along.

Of course, this was all based on the premise that the man before him posed no immediate threat to his life.

If his life were threatened, He Xiaotian wouldn’t mind fighting to the death and tearing off a chunk of his enemy’s flesh before he died. ’I’d make my opponent understand: even if I die, I won’t let you have it easy. I have to at least leave a mark!’

"I can’t explain the specifics. In short, everyone has their own fantasies and aspirations. I hope you can seize this rare opportunity."

He Xiaotian hated people like this the most—always being evasive and acting all mysterious.

They acted as if they held some great secret, when in reality, they were just stringing people along.

’Mr. Men, is it?’

’You just wait. Once I figure out your secrets, if I find out I can actually beat you, I’ll smash that broken door behind you to smithereens.’

"Alright. I’ll be waiting,"

Mr. Men suddenly replied.

"?!"

He Xiaotian almost choked.

’So you heard everything I was thinking?’

"Of course. Reading a human’s mind... isn’t that a simple matter?"

’I f... Well, aren’t you just the best!’
