I Can Fish Up Everything!
Chapter 198 - 135: Gu Nan: I’ve Caught the Big Fish, Do You Dare to Eat It?
Chapter 198: Chapter 135: Gu Nan: I’ve Caught the Big Fish, Do You Dare to Eat It?
And the 190-pound fish he’d just caught was proof of that.
Gu Nan turned to Wang Junhe and Guo Xiao, who were staring blankly at the fish, and teased, "Brother Wang, Brother Guo, I caught this big fish for you, but do you dare to eat it?"
"Hey, you’re underestimating us, aren’t you? Not only do we dare to eat it, we dare to eat a lot of it," Wang Junhe retorted, snapping out of his daze and lifting his head proudly.
"You’re kidding. It’s just an oilfish!" Guo Xiao said with the exact same expression.
The corner of the boat owner’s mouth twitched. "You two, stop fooling around. You want your asses to leak oil?"
Guo Xiao said grimly, "Old Zhang, compared to being kicked out of the house for three days, what’s a little oil leakage?"
"When that happens, just bring out that luxury yacht of yours, and we’ll all get together."
The boat owner froze for a second, then his eyes lit up.
The diving instructor nearby quickly raised his hand. "Count me in!"
"Hiss..." Gu Nan immediately took two steps back, distancing himself from this group of men in their thirties, soon to be forties. ’Their wives are terrifying!’
’Sure enough, I need to catch more big fish to keep myself in shape. Otherwise, in a few years, I won’t even dare to go home either.’
The boat would be heading back in the afternoon, so Guo Xiao simply took Wang Junhe and the others and started processing the enormous oilfish.
Gu Nan, however, wasn’t concerned about the oilfish. He set up his electric reel rod and started fishing for deep-sea species.
The flesh of this thing was snow-white, looking very similar to cod or hake, and some unscrupulous vendors even sold it as cod.
But Gu Nan couldn’t do that. If something went wrong, it would ruin the reputation of the shop he had worked so hard to build.
Still, once Guo Xiao was done preparing the fish, he could try a little. At least he could say he’d experienced it.
Eating just a small amount was actually fine; it wouldn’t cause any... leakage. That only happened when you ate too much.
Gu Nan watched the electric reel, wondering what other kinds of fish were down in the deep.
He also needed to gauge the efficiency of the electric reel to decide whether he should use his other fishing rod as well.
Deep-sea fishing with a manual reel was too strenuous. Your arms would get sore after just a few fish, and Gu Nan didn’t want to exhaust himself like that.
It was just that deep-sea fishing wasn’t very fast. From dropping the line to hooking a fish and reeling it in took three to five minutes, even on a quick catch. It couldn’t compare to the efficiency of fishing for schools in the upper water layers.
He reeled in a giant scorpionfish. Gu Nan held it in his hand; it felt like it weighed a good two pounds.
You could only catch a scorpionfish this big far offshore.
It wasn’t the same species as the scorpionfish found near the shore, though, just from the same family and genus.
But the electric reel’s efficiency was just so-so today. Since that was the case, he decided to use his other rod as well. Gu Nan picked it up, baited the hook with a sardine, and cast it into the water.
At that moment, he failed to notice anything amiss—for instance, that the baited hook was so large that no small fish could possibly bite it.
A moment later, the electric reel rod got a bite, and Gu Nan went over to reel it in.
He was still in the middle of reeling in the line when the rod in his hands suddenly bent sharply. Another pull, with a force similar to the oilfish from before, shot up the line.
Gu Nan’s mind went blank. ’It can’t be another oilfish, can it?’
The four men nearby, who were still processing the first oilfish, heard the commotion and looked up in unison. When they saw his stance for battling a big fish, their minds went blank too.
Again and again.
Good grief, these big fish were coming one after another, like they were strung on a skewer!
"Brother Wang, come help me with this fish!"
Gu Nan gritted his teeth and threw all his strength into his arms, managing to lift the fishing rod just a little.
His stamina hadn’t fully recovered from catching the last big fish, so this time he had to use every last ounce of his strength.
He couldn’t lift the rod as high to set the hook this time, nor could he forcibly drag the fish back a bit like before. He just didn’t have the stamina to follow through.
Fighting a big fish burns a huge amount of energy. After the last one, he’d only drunk some rather expensive mineral water and hadn’t eaten a thing.
As soon as this new fish hit, after just a few pulls, he felt a pang of hunger and a wave of weakness. The small breakfast he’d had was long since digested; his body was crying out for energy.
The big fish was charging relentlessly, but thankfully, it wasn’t diving for the bottom.
Still, Gu Nan couldn’t control it. He had no choice but to lock the drag, hug the rod tightly, and let the fish wear itself out.
’I still haven’t unlocked enough of the map,’ he thought. Just two fish over 165 pounds had already left him completely drained.
After a short while, the fish’s charge died down. The other fishermen’s hands started to itch, and they gathered around one by one.
This time, it was Guo Xiao who spoke first. "Ah Nan, you must be tired. How about I give you a hand?"
Gu Nan had already had his fishing fix for the day and had already shown off his skills.
Besides, he was starving, so he didn’t insist on landing it himself like the last time.
"Brother Guo, first, untie the safety line from me and tie it onto yourself, then I’ll hand you the rod. This fish is really strong, so we have to be careful."
"Right, right, we have to be careful," Guo Xiao said, nodding repeatedly. He moved next to him to untie the safety line, grinning so wide his gums were showing without him even noticing.
’Yes! I finally get to see what fighting a big fish feels like!’
Hearing this, Wang Junhe quickly chimed in, "Ah Nan, you can’t play favorites! Let me have a turn later, too."
"Everyone will get a turn, everyone. After Brother Guo gets tired, you can all go one by one," Gu Nan said. At this point, he was more than happy to let them wear down the fish’s energy.
A fish over 165 pounds wasn’t easy to land. With the four of them taking turns, everyone would definitely get a chance.
Guo Xiao secured the safety line and gripped the rod with both hands.
"Ready?" Gu Nan asked, shifting his position slightly to make room.
Guo Xiao began to put his strength into it as well, nodding with a serious expression. "Ready!"
