Chapter 195: Chapter 135: Gu Nan: I’ve Caught the Big Fish, Do You Dare to Eat It?
As hairtail fish came up one after another, the second small cooler was soon full.
The electric reel was more efficient, allowing him to fish effortlessly.
However, it was already almost 1:30 in the morning. The other two shareholders were just there for fun, not professional anglers, so once they’d scratched their fishing itch, they went back to the cabin to rest.
"Ah Nan, why don’t we call it a night? We’re going for big bonito around eight tomorrow morning. We’ll get to see you in action then," Wang Junhe advised, seeing how engrossed he was in his fishing.
Hearing this, Gu Nan was a bit puzzled. "Brother Wang, how can you guarantee we’ll catch big bonito?"
Guo Xiao, who had just finished putting away his fishing rod, walked over. He laughed at the question. "What kind of question is that? Of course we know a good spot for big bonito, or we wouldn’t be so confident. We were originally planning to go there tonight, but we happened to run into this school of hairtail and decided to stop here to catch a few for a fresh meal."
"..." Gu Nan listened, then patted his head, feeling a bit foolish. ’I got the wrong idea.’ He had thought they had intel on a big bonito run, but it turned out they were just heading to a known fishing spot where bonito frequented.
"I’ll just fill one more cooler. It should only take about half an hour. If you guys are tired, you can head back and get some rest."
Guo Xiao nodded. "Alright, we’ll head back first then. The room in the cabin with the open door is for you. It’s a single room, you know. See how well I treat you!"
"I’m not holding my breath for a giant hairtail, so just get some sleep soon!" Wang Junhe joked before turning to head into the cabin.
Just then, a force far stronger than anything before shot through the rod in Gu Nan’s hand, and the tip bent down sharply.
He froze for a second, then immediately yanked the rod up to set the hook.
The pull was much stronger than the previous hairtail, but for someone like him, who was used to landing big fish weighing dozens of pounds, it was nothing.
However, the way the fishing rod reacted caught Wang Junhe’s attention, and he stopped in his tracks.
Guo Xiao saw it too, but he didn’t know what it meant. Wang Junhe, on the other hand, did!
With the other hairtail, the rod had only bent slightly. It had never reacted this strongly.
He immediately rushed over, excited. "Well, I’ll be damned. Don’t tell me you actually hooked a giant hairtail?"
"Judging by the feel, it’s probably a hairtail." Gu Nan’s hands were a blur as he spun the reel’s handle at high speed.
’So what if it’s a giant hairtail? Best case, it’s only ten or so pounds. And because of their body shape, they don’t have much fight in them.’ Naturally, Gu Nan could reel the fish in quickly.
After about three minutes, a long steel bar broke the surface.
The fish looked incredibly long, at least over two meters, but its thin, pointed tail accounted for at least half a meter of that length.
Based on its appearance, it wasn’t one of the other varieties. While you can catch some exceptionally large hairtail in the East China Sea, they look distinctly different.
Several species of hairtail look quite similar, but they have different tails.
The Zhoushan hairtail, also called the Tianzhu Hairtail Fish, has a long, slender tail. They are typically between half a meter and one meter long, but the largest can grow up to 2.35 meters.
Other types of hairtail have a small, forked tail.
Beside him, Wang Junhe was ecstatic. It really was a giant hairtail! Fearing something might go wrong, he quickly grabbed the large landing net and scooped the fish aboard.
"Tsk, tsk. This has to be over two meters. A hairtail this big is a rare catch this time of year!" Guo Xiao said as he picked up the fish after it was brought on board.
The fish had only just been caught, but he was already thinking about how to have it cooked.
That’s right—they would hire a professional chef to prepare it. To cook it themselves would be a criminal waste.
"You’re the man, Ah Nan! A man of your word. Now I’m even more confident about the fishing competition," Wang Junhe praised him again and again. After all, Gu Nan had caught this fish for him, having promised a giant hairtail right from the start.
He chuckled as he took the hairtail from Guo Xiao, removed the Tenya jig from its mouth, then held up the fish and asked Gu Nan to take a picture of him.
Gu Nan didn’t mind. ’I’m sure I can catch another two-meter hairtail in the future. No need to rush to get my own show-off picture.’
After filling one more cooler with hairtail, he finally returned to his room to rest.
Fearing he would oversleep for the trip out to sea, Gu Nan behaved himself that night.
The main reason was the comfort of the luxury fishing boat. Sleeping in his room felt every bit as good as being on shore; the slight rocking of the hull was like being in a rocking chair, making it incredibly relaxing.
...
The next day, the sea was, as expected, calm and sunny. If the weather hadn’t been this good for the past couple of days, Guo Xiao and the others wouldn’t have set out.
Caution is baked into the bones of the Chinese; they don’t go looking for trouble like foreigners do.
Gu Nan went out on deck to enjoy the sea breeze. Even though it was summer, the mornings this far out at sea weren’t hot.
It was only 7:30 AM, but Guo Xiao was already steering the boat toward the big bonito spot.
Although the plan was to fish for big bonito, the area was actually rich in marine life, with all sorts of deep-sea fish.
When the club’s other two shareholders got up that morning and saw the giant hairtail, they were left speechless. They had thought of luck as something too abstract and unreliable, but the proof was right in front of them.
Now they were skeptical, thinking it must have been a coincidence.
But since they were already out here, they were going to fish regardless.
Another ten or so minutes passed, and they seemed to have reached their destination. The fishing boat began to slow down before coming to a stop.
Gu Nan looked around but didn’t see any reefs or islands. ’There are fish here?’
He curiously made his way to the cockpit. When he saw a school of fish a hundred meters down on the fish finder’s screen, he understood this was the spot they had mentioned.
Gu Nan slyly glanced at the navigation system to see the coordinates, then brazenly pulled out his phone right in front of Guo Xiao and jotted them down.
