Chapter 738: Chapter 222: Ten Thousand Gu Insects (2)
Shen Bai said, “If this Gu Village is the one with the problem, that would be excellent. If not, then we’ll check the other one.”
“As you command!” Ding Quan said with a cupped-fist salute.
His superior had spoken, so Ding Quan didn’t insist any further.
After saying he would obey, he left the five-story building and began making arrangements.
By the time Shen Bai came down from the five-story building, Ding Quan had already selected fifty people each from Divisions Jia and Yi, for a total of one hundred Celestial Spirit Realm masters, who were now waiting in the courtyard.
This time, the group of masters was led by Ding Quan, while the Yi Shou of the Yi Division remained behind to guard the Observatory.
When the crowd saw Shen Bai, they immediately lowered their heads and called out in unison.
“We greet Lord Shen!”
Shen Bai waved his hand. “Move out!”
The group followed behind Shen Bai, exiting the Observatory and heading for the Calamity Source Mountain Range.
Along the way, many Jianghu People who saw the Observatory’s procession stared with wide eyes.
They guessed that some Demonic Force was about to suffer a terrible fate.
…
「Calamity Source Mountain Range」
Dark clouds hung thick and low. Sunlight was a rare sight here year-round, and the area was seldom visited by people.
Due to the swarms of venomous insects and its remote location, very few common folk ever set foot here.
But now, a group of people had arrived at the Calamity Source Mountain Range.
Shen Bai stood at the entrance to the mountain range and said, “Everyone, equip your items.”
Ding Quan and the others took out an Incense Bag from within their robes and wore it on their persons.
Inside the Incense Bags were medicinal herbs that repelled venomous insects.
Although they couldn’t repel Gu Insects, they would prevent a lot of other trouble.
Everyone enveloped their bodies with Qi, and with the added effect of the Incense Bags, much of the poisonous mist in the mountains dispersed before they even stepped inside.
Ding Quan asked, “My lord, are you not going to wear one?”
Shen Bai shook his head. “I don’t need to.”
The term “Gu-poison” contained the word “poison,” which happened to align nicely with his Poison Avoidance and Spirit Recovery Skill.
This poisonous mist posed no threat to Shen Bai at all.
Once everyone was ready, Shen Bai led Ding Quan and the others into the Calamity Source Mountain Range.
This was Shen Bai’s first time entering the Calamity Source Mountain Range. He hadn’t expected an entire mountain to be filled with toxic gas that made everyone want to keep a wide berth.
From time to time, they would see snakes, insects, rats, and ants, each one a highly venomous creature.
Shen Bai didn’t need to act; the members of the Observatory took it upon themselves to clear away all the poisonous creatures blocking their path.
Although the forces in the Calamity Source Mountain Range were unique, the Observatory had its own intelligence. The people leading the way knew exactly how to proceed.
After overcoming every obstacle in their path, they heard voices up ahead.
Through his Void-breaking Red Eye, Shen Bai saw a small river not far ahead.
The river’s water wasn’t clear like an ordinary river; streaks of emerald green swam within it. Every now and then, a completely emerald-green frog would leap out of the water—a creature that was obviously extremely poisonous at a single glance.
Two young women in short blouses were squatting by the riverbank, collecting river water in porcelain vials.
The slightly older one, who looked to be in her early twenties, was speaking softly to the younger girl. “Xiaofei, don’t take too much. We won’t be able to use it all. The little darlings have just been nurtured; they can’t eat this much.”
Xiaofei, who was about ten years old, let out a soft “oh.” She then vigorously stirred the river with her porcelain vial, causing the emerald-green frogs in the water to start croaking.
“Sister Chang Yue, let’s catch this frog and take it back to feed the Gu.” Xiaofei’s eyes lit up as she stared at the frogs in the river.
Chang Yue rolled her eyes and pinched Xiaofei’s cheek. “Don’t be so naughty. These frogs are the treasures of the Gu River. Many Gu Insects are raised on the water they produce. If you do that, your father will spank your bottom raw when we get back.”
Xiaofei yelped in pain and immediately begged for mercy.
As the two girls were bantering, the sound of footsteps approached from behind them.
Chang Yue froze for a moment. She instinctively turned her head and saw a strikingly handsome young man, leading a hundred others who exuded a terrifying aura, already close by.
“Who are you? Why have you trespassed into the Gu Village!”
She reacted quickly, pulling Xiaofei behind her with one hand while her other hand retrieved a short, emerald-green flute from her ample bosom and brought it to her lips.
Chang Yue could sense that every single one of these people was powerful enough to establish their own sect if they were out in the world.
The young man leading them, in particular, radiated a terrifying presence.
Moreover, the fact that this group was led by someone so young made Chang Yue exercise extreme caution.
Shen Bai glanced at Ding Quan.
Ding Quan immediately understood and stepped forward. “We are from the Lingyun Dao Observatory. You are from the Gu Village. Take us to your village. We have urgent business and need to see your Village Chief.”
‘The Observatory?’
Only then did Chang Yue notice the tokens hanging from everyone’s waists. These tokens were the unique symbols of identity for the Observatory.
Xiaofei peeked her head out from behind Chang Yue, curiously sizing up Shen Bai with a frightened expression.
Shen Bai frowned.
He couldn’t sense the slightest hint of bloodlust from the two of them.
Countless people had fallen at Shen Bai’s hands, and he had long been able to glean information with a single glance.
Coupled with his Void-breaking Red Eye, he discovered that these two young women had, surprisingly, never taken a life.
Chang Yue said cautiously, “The people of the Gu Village have never offended the Observatory. May I ask what business you esteemed sirs from the Observatory have here?”
Ding Quan said coldly, “I told you to lead the way, so lead the way. Cut the chatter. If you’re unwilling, are you going to make Lord Shen find it himself?”
‘Lord Shen?’
After hearing those two words, Chang Yue looked at Shen Bai, her long, slender neck shrinking back slightly.
Even though she rarely left the Gu Village, she had heard stories about Shen Bai from her martial brothers who often went out.
A man of noble status in the Great Zhou Country, one of the Twelve Unparalleled Young Masters, Overcoming Adversity and Attacking Upward…
