Chapter 67: Chapter 67: Lightning Weapon Arts

From that point onward, everything became smoother.

The timing improved.

The synchronization became cleaner.

The more they practiced, the easier it became to understand each other’s intentions.

Soon they weren’t just repeating the same thrust.

They began experimenting.

"What if we compress it even further?"

Freya answered immediately.

The next thrust became thinner.

Faster.

Sharper.

It left only a tiny hole in the stone wall.

But the hole went much deeper.

Damon nodded.

"Pure penetration."

Another attempt.

This time Freya adjusted the flow herself.

Instead of compressing everything into one point, the lightning spread outward the moment the thrust landed.

BOOM!

Electric arcs burst across the nearby rocks, covering several meters.

Damon whistled.

"Better against groups."

They continued from there.

Each variation became a little more refined.

Sometimes they focused on speed.

Sometimes on piercing power.

Other times they traded both for a wider area of attack.

The more they trained, the more natural it felt.

It was no longer Damon wielding Freya.

Nor was it Freya moving Damon.

They were fighting together.

Eventually Damon lowered the spear and smiled.

"I think these deserve names."

Freya immediately became excited.

Sylphie flew closer too.

Damon looked at the spear in thought.

Then he nodded.

"Lightning Art..."

He pointed the spear forward.

"Flashpiercer."

The compressed thrust shot out instantly.

A clean, deadly strike built to pierce through the toughest defenses.

He nodded with satisfaction.

"The wider one..."

He swung again.

Lightning burst outward across the ground.

"...Stormburst."

Another variation.

A blur of silver.

"The fastest one..."

"Lightning Art: Flashstep Pierce."

This version sacrificed a little power for speed, making it perfect for catching fast opponents before they could react.

Freya absolutely loved the names.

She hummed happily through their connection.

Sylphie chirped over and over as if applauding.

Damon couldn’t help laughing.

"Don’t make me sound cooler than I actually am."

Neither of them listened.

He smiled before raising the spear once more.

"Lightning Art..."

"Flashpiercer."

CRACK!

The thrust exploded forward with perfect timing.

No hesitation.

No delay.

Only one will.

Damon took a deep breath.

"So..."

"This is what a real weapon Art feels like."

His heart raced.

He wasn’t simply using a weapon anymore.

He was fighting beside a partner.

That feeling alone made every hour of training worth it.

Still...

Neither Damon nor Freya planned to stop there.

They exchanged another look through their contract.

There was still plenty to improve.

Freya soon nudged another idea into his mind.

Defense.

"Let’s see what you’ve got."

Damon planted the spear before him.

Freya began storing lightning along the shaft instead of the spearhead.

Their first few attempts failed completely.

Sometimes the lightning escaped too early.

Other times it discharged into the ground.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Finally...

CLANG!

Damon deliberately struck the shaft with a broken piece of the Wyvern’s horn.

The stored lightning exploded upward.

CRACK!!

The current raced straight through the horn and into his arm.

Even though he expected it, Damon instinctively let go.

His hand tingled.

"...Ow."

Freya giggled through their connection.

Damon rubbed his palm.

"Good."

"If that were someone’s sword..."

He smiled.

"They’d lose their grip immediately."

He nodded.

"Lightning Art: Thunder Rebuke."

Satisfied, they moved to the last technique.

This one took even longer.

Instead of thrusting, Damon spun the spear around his body.

The movement was awkward at first.

The lightning scattered everywhere.

Sometimes it hit the ground.

Sometimes it simply disappeared.

Freya adjusted.

Damon adjusted.

Little by little, the rotation became smoother.

Faster.

The spear whistled through the air.

Then...

The lightning finally followed the circular path.

WHOOM!

A wide ring of silver current burst away from the spinning spear.

The electric arc skimmed across the ground before jumping toward nearby rocks without even touching them.

Every stone it reached exploded apart.

Damon slowly stopped spinning.

A wide grin spread across his face.

"Now that’s useful."

Freya proudly hummed.

He nodded.

"Lightning Art: Tempest Ring."

Perfect against groups.

Perfect for creating space.

Perfect for keeping enemies away.

Damon rested the spear across his shoulder and looked at the battlefield they had turned into a training ground.

Broken rocks.

Burn marks.

Deep spear holes.

Signs of countless failures.

And proof that every failure had been worth it.

He looked at Freya’s spear form and smiled.

"We’ve only just started."

The spear buzzed softly.

It was almost as if she was smiling back.

Damon and Freya continued training for a little while longer.

Now that they had created their first Weapon Arts, the next step was simple.

Refine them.

The two practiced each variation again and again until every movement became smoother than before. Their timing improved with every thrust, every parry, and every sweep. Damon could already feel how much easier it had become to understand Freya’s intentions through their contract.

Eventually, both of them reached their limit.

Damon lowered the spear with a satisfied smile.

"I think that’s enough for today."

Freya happily agreed.

The lightning around the spear faded before it shrank back into her familiar fox form.

She immediately hopped into his arms.

Damon laughed.

"You worked hard."

He rubbed behind her ears before taking out a healing potion.

"Here."

He took a small sip first before holding it toward her.

Freya eagerly drank her share.

Her tired eyes brightened almost immediately.

Sylphie flew over at once.

"Crii!"

"I know," Damon said with a chuckle. "You helped too."

He opened another bottle for her before placing several bags of snacks on the ground.

That was all the invitation the two spirits needed.

Freya buried herself in the snacks while Sylphie picked hers more neatly, eating one piece at a time.

Watching them always made Damon smile.

On the battlefield, they were fierce enough to challenge powerful A Rank beasts.

Right now...

They were just his adorable little companions.

Damon sat down cross legged nearby and began cultivating.

His white core slowly absorbed the surrounding Aether while the two spirits enjoyed themselves beside him.

But this peaceful moment couldn’t last forever.
