Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Fighting from the Rear

A small possibility had crossed their minds, but none of them dared to mention it.

The thought of him arriving here and displaying such overwhelming strength was something they could hardly accept.

They had seen him as a failure for so long that imagining him as the one leading this reinforcement felt almost impossible.

"There’s no point guessing," another elder finally said. "We’ll find out once they reach the frontline."

He looked toward the battlefield reports.

"How far are they from us?"

"Based on the speed of their advance, they should reach the frontline soon if they maintain their current pace."

The elders exchanged another glance.

They still didn’t know who was coming, but the reports were enough to give them a little hope.

"Then we hold on until they arrive."

Meanwhile, Damon and his group continued their advance through the beast tide.

The battlefield was even more chaotic than he had expected, but the situation was unfolding much as he had predicted.

Attacking the beasts from behind had disrupted their formation and forced some of them to turn away from the frontline. More importantly, the sheer number of monsters gave his group plenty of opportunities to test their abilities.

Damon moved ahead with a calm expression, his eyes constantly observing the battlefield.

"Shiro, block the ones on the left. Sylphie, keep the air clear above us. Freya, help me deal with the larger beasts."

His spirits responded immediately.

Shiro stepped forward, his deep blue eyes glowing as a wave of cold spread from his body.

"Frostbound Sanctuary!"

A vast field of ice spread across the ground, freezing the legs of the approaching beasts. Thick ice formations rose between them, slowing their advance and forcing the monsters to bunch together.

Several Thunderfang Wolves attempted to leap over the frozen ground, but Shiro raised his head.

"Frost Chains!"

Numerous chains of ice shot out from the ground and wrapped around their bodies. The wolves struggled, their lightning crackling against the frozen restraints, but the chains held long enough for Damon to act.

He lifted one hand.

A dozen ice spears formed in the air around him, their sharp tips pointed toward the trapped beasts. At the same time, lightning gathered around each spear, creating a layer of crackling energy along their edges.

With a small movement of his fingers, a powerful gust of wind swept forward.

The spears shot out.

They pierced through the wolves in an instant, and the lightning spread through their bodies before they could break free.

Damon didn’t even pause to admire the result.

More beasts were already approaching.

"Let’s try something else."

He raised his other hand, and several thick pillars of ice erupted from the ground. The first few beasts crashed into them, while the others tried to move around the obstacles.

Damon watched their movements closely.

"Freya, now."

Silver lightning flashed beside him.

Freya appeared with a playful smile, her nine tails swaying behind her as silver sparks danced across her fur.

"Leave it to me!"

She leaped forward, and her tails spread wide.

A powerful surge of silver lightning burst from her body, spreading across the ice pillars Damon had created. The electricity raced through the frozen structures and struck the beasts surrounding them.

The monsters convulsed as the lightning surged through their bodies. Several collapsed immediately, while the larger ones tried to endure the attack.

Damon’s smile widened.

"Still standing?"

He stretched his hand forward and Freya responded.

A silver spear of living lightning formed in his grasp, its nine trailing ribbons twisting through the air. He swung it once, sending a powerful arc of lightning through the remaining beasts.

The attack tore through their defenses and sent their bodies crashing to the ground.

Damon glanced at the spear.

"You’re getting better at controlling the output."

"Of course I am!" Freya replied proudly. "I wouldn’t let you do all the interesting things."

"Good. Keep it up."

He turned his attention toward another group of monsters.

Above them, Sylphie soared through the air, her six wings spread wide. Her emerald feathers shimmered as she gathered the surrounding wind, creating a powerful current that swept across the battlefield.

The beasts were forced to slow down as the wind pressed against them.

Then Sylphie folded her wings slightly and descended.

A series of razor-sharp wind blades formed around her, cutting through the monsters below. She passed over the group almost silently, leaving a trail of swirling air in her wake.

Several beasts attempted to attack her from the ground, but Sylphie simply tilted her wings.

The wind shifted.

Their attacks were pushed aside, and the beasts lost their balance as the air currents twisted around them.

Damon took advantage of the opening.

He formed a large ice spear and sent it forward, while a layer of wind gathered around its body. The spear accelerated as it crossed the battlefield, striking a massive Stormclaw Boar directly in the head.

The impact sent the beast tumbling backward.

Before it could recover, another spear struck its body, followed by a burst of lightning that finished it off.

Caelia watched the sequence with a complicated expression.

She had already fought alongside Damon and his spirits for some time, but she was still adjusting to the way he approached battle.

He didn’t simply rely on powerful attacks.

Every obstacle became an opportunity. Every enemy movement gave him something to work with, and he constantly adjusted his arts to make better use of the battlefield.

Even now, while facing an enormous tide of beasts, he was experimenting with different combinations.

And the results were terrifying.

"Snow, Forward!"

Caelia raised her hand, directing her Frost Lynx toward a group of approaching beasts.

Snow darted forward, leaving a trail of frost beneath her paws. Several icy chains emerged from the ground and wrapped around the monsters, holding them in place.

Caelia followed with a wave of ice spears.

They shot through the air and struck the restrained beasts, while Snow moved between them, using her claws to finish off those that survived.
