Chapter 70: The Demon King’s Gift
Chapter 70: Chapter 70: The Demon King’s Gift
It was like a scene straight out of a disaster movie, plunging humanity into wave after wave of relentless despair. Just one of these monsters had left people completely helpless and caused catastrophic destruction. And now, there were a full five of them!
Even the people inside the city could hear the distant roars. Earth-shattering vibrations followed as massive, hill-like bodies came charging forward. There was a minotaur-like monster wielding a blunt weapon, a beast crawling on all fours breathing scorching flames, and a serpent-like creature slithering across the ground... The five largest ones were each bigger than the Doctor from earlier, standing at least twenty meters tall!
"It’s too late to launch missiles!"
"Evacuate the civilians quickly! Save as many as we can!"
"Is there any way to contact the Master of Thunder?"
"Prepare low-yield nuclear warheads as a last resort!"
The entire command system of the United States fell into instant chaos. They didn’t know who had just spoken, where the enemy came from, or how many there were. But they knew one thing for certain: if they couldn’t stop this, today would become the most tragic disaster in American history.
The problem was that in at most seven or eight seconds, these monsters would crash straight into the city.
At that moment, Shen Yun’s voice suddenly echoed throughout the entire city. "Everyone, try to fall back. Don’t panic. If this is all they have, the monsters won’t be able to get in."
As soon as his voice faded, lightning from the high sky crashed down with the intensity of a torrential downpour. The deafening thunder and the roars of the monsters intertwined, creating a breathtaking and awe-inspiring scene.
Shen Yun stood alone at the edge of the city, lightning dancing all around his body. He looked as majestic and powerful as Zeus, the legendary King of the Gods.
"Everyone in the east of the city, quickly evacuate to the west!" a TV anchor shouted at the top of his lungs during a live broadcast. "Let us put our faith in the Master of Thunder!"
Shen Yun’s voice brought immense comfort to the panicked masses. This was a country that highly worshipped individual power, and its people had a blind reliance on any hero who would step forward.
However, Shen Yun wasn’t as relaxed on the inside as he appeared, because he hadn’t yet located the real enemy.
"Master, other than the monsters and the enemy’s Divine Thought and Spiritual Power within the black mist, I haven’t seen their true body," Little Nine’s voice sounded a bit urgent.
"Since there is Divine Thought, the main body must be hiding somewhere. There’s no rush, we can just take our time finding him." After a brief thought, Shen Yun suddenly raised his voice. "You must be Ludwig from the earliest video. What, do you only dare to speak from the shadows? Are you too afraid to show your face?"
"You killed Annie!" A voice filled with agonizing grief seemed to echo from all directions. "That poor child... he had the hope of becoming the third-generation Demon King, yet you killed him! I will extract your soul and make it my slave! I will turn your body into my servant and make you suffer endless agony for the rest of your life! Ah—my beloved Annie!"
Ludwig’s sorrow was genuine. He had adored that child deeply, no less than he loved his own creations. But the boy had died so easily.
"This sort of howling from a beaten dog not only fails to anger me, it actually makes me want to laugh." Shen Yun chuckled aloud as he reached out a hand. "You aren’t naive enough to think that numbers mean anything to me, are you?"
Suddenly, the lightning around him flared with blinding brilliance. Five metal projectiles, carrying terrifying kinetic energy, shot fiercely toward the bodies of the five monsters. This time, he used spike-covered Dum-dum Bullets, which possessed a tearing effect several times larger than their caliber. In an instant, they blasted holes the size of a human body through the beasts.
Several agonized howls rang out almost simultaneously. The camera of an arriving news helicopter perfectly captured this shocking scene.
The five massive monsters wailed as they collapsed to the ground.
"Why! How could you find their cores?!" Ludwig’s voice instantly turned exasperated and frantic, sounding as if his heart was bleeding.
These were not creations made in this world, but masterpieces brought over from his own. Each and every one of them was the culmination of his life’s blood and sweat.
"Is it supposed to be hard to find?" Shen Yun’s voice remained flat and indifferent.
Although they were corpses animated by Black Magic, given their colossal size, the Black Mage couldn’t possibly provide all the Spiritual Power himself. Instead, much like magical artifacts, they relied on cores to control Arrays that powered their movements. And in front of Little Nine, there was simply no way to hide such things.
"This is truly astonishing, my friends!" The TV anchor grew impassioned once more. "An instant kill! Another instant kill! Our Master of Thunder has easily discovered the monsters’ weaknesses! Did you hear the enemy’s unwilling howls? I believe the victims of this tragedy can find solace in heaven today!"
"SHUT UP—!" Ludwig roared furiously.
A flying monster lunged viciously toward the helicopter, but it was struck down mid-air by a bolt of lightning.
"He’s angry! He’s angry!" The anchor became even more thrilled, leaning half his body out of the helicopter to aggressively flip the middle finger. "Do you know what this is?! I’m not afraid of you! Come and kill me if you have the guts!"
Even Shen Yun cast a slight side-glance at the man. This guy... wasn’t he stealing all of his thunder? However, it seemed to be highly effective, because a sound like a torn rag flapping wildly in the wind began to constantly emanate from within the black mist.
WHOOSH, WHOOSH—
For a mere ant to actually dare say they weren’t afraid of him! It was an utter humiliation the likes of which he hadn’t experienced in hundreds of years. His idol was the Demon King. A terrifying entity whose true name people didn’t even dare to speak aloud! But if even an ant like this dared to curse at him so brazenly, his prestige would be entirely swept away, turning him into the greatest laughingstock.
"You reckless, ignorant humans—drown in despair!" Unable to endure it any longer, Ludwig shrieked at the top of his lungs.
An insidious old monster like him would never have shown up if he didn’t have a trump card. Even if it was only a half-finished product, it would be more than enough. Because—this was a gift bestowed upon him by the Demon King!
BOOM!
The sudden sound of the earth shaking rang out. It felt like a massive earthquake. With just this single tremor, the already damaged buildings within the city came crashing down.
The TV anchor stopped talking. Or rather, he couldn’t speak at all anymore, because he felt true terror—a trembling that originated from the very depths of his soul.
Emerging from the black mist were eerie white bones. Gigantic white bones, several times larger than any of the monsters from before. It was nearly a hundred meters tall! When this colossal silhouette finally revealed itself entirely in front of the camera, everyone couldn’t help but gasp in horror.
It was, astonishingly, a White Bone Tyrant Dragon!
With razor-sharp teeth and thick, muscular hind claws, it towered into the sky, blazing blue flames burning fiercely within its eye sockets.
"Hahaha! Do you feel the terror?" Ludwig’s voice carried undisguised excitement and awe. "How beautiful... How moving! You lowly beings, weep and tremble beneath the dominance of the Demon King!"
