I Can Devour Spirits
Chapter 684 - 422: Return to the Peak (Part 3)
Although the corpses of the two Primordial Beasts were large, Lu Geng was a Martial Artist of the Fourth Level of Primordial Qi Realm, and Wang Yue was also a Martial Artist of the Second Level of Primordial Qi Realm. For them, such weight was nothing.
As for the seven blood sacks, Duan Rong was the one pulling them. Duan Rong had tied the seven blood sacks together with a thin chain, dragging them directly on the ground.
These blood sacks were made from the bladders of certain animals, though used for many years, they no longer smelled. However, they were extraordinarily durable, and ordinary dead branches and stones couldn’t scratch them.
The group followed their original path back, walking through the Dark Forest, and found they had already covered nearly half the journey. The Dark Forest became safer as they approached the outer edges, but the deeper they went, the more perilous it became.
At this moment, as they had reached this point, there was basically no danger left, at most just some small Primordial Beasts, akin to mosquito bites.
But suddenly, a scream erupted not far from them within the dense forest.
Immediately after, a figure dashed out from the forest, face distorted with extreme fear. Upon seeing Duan Rong and the others, he sprinted furiously towards them.
The others frowned deeply, not knowing what trouble this pest might have brought them. It was then they heard Fan Hongjiao’s voice, saying, "No worries, it’s only a lone dog wolf chasing him."
Fan Hongjiao’s Divine Sense encompassed the widest range among them, and her Divine Sense Investigation had long revealed the scene within the dense forest.
Wang Yue frowned, saying, "A lone dog wolf?"
Wang Yue’s doubt was justified, as dog wolves normally traveled in packs, rarely found alone.
Fan Hongjiao naturally discerned the skepticism in Wang Yue’s tone. The horrific scene within the dense forest also left her stunned.
More than a dozen adult dog wolves lay dead in the depths of the forest, among them were the corpses of four or five Inner Sect Disciples.
Fan Hongjiao said, "The rest of the dog wolves died in the depths of the forest."
Upon hearing this, the rest felt a chill in their hearts.
Dog wolves were pack-dwelling Primordial Beasts, and Inner Sect Disciples usually avoided provoking them due to inconvenience—their collective ferocity was likewise alarming and usually relentless.
The scene in the forest’s depths was so brutal, it seemed like the pack of dog wolves had engaged in a mortal combat with those Inner Sect Disciples. With a flash in her eyes, Fan Hongjiao vaguely discerned the reason. The disciples likely took the dog wolves’ cubs, probably killed them, and coincidentally got caught by the returning dog wolf pack.
The man had just burst out of the forest when a big, bloody dog wolf charged out behind him, breathing heavily and viciously attacking him once more.
That man had long been exhausted, yet still desperately rushed towards Duan Rong and the others.
Seeing he was less than half a meter away, he suddenly jumped to his feet near Duan Rong and the others. But the dog wolf behind him leaped up and crunched, severing his arm.
The man fell in pain, and the dog wolf came at him again, this time aiming for his throat.
The man saw death approaching, but suddenly a whip shadow flashed past, the dog wolf got whipped in two.
Fan Hongjiao just shot a glare at the man with the severed arm and coldly said, "We’re leaving!"
The others promptly moved forward, leaving the place shortly afterward.
Fan Hongjiao acted merely because she recognized the man with the severed arm as an Inner Sect Disciple affiliated with the Internal History Department under Yunfu Peak. But for them to provoke dog wolves was truly idiotic.
