I Can Devour Spirits
Chapter 680 - 421: Sinister Grounds (Part 2)
However, that three-headed creature, clearly had yet to discover Duan Rong and Fan Hongjiao on the tree beside it. It sniffed the air, seemingly having detected some scent, and headed towards the stream not far away.
There was a patch of blood there, left by Wang Yue’s recent slaying of the young Arrow Boar.
The three-headed creature sniffed at the bloodstain, all three heads showing puzzled contemplation. It scanned its surroundings with its three heads and walked over to a tree not far away.
Though the creature’s three heads were of a terrifying bluish-black color, it walked with a hint of elegance.
It stopped under a tree not far off, which happened to be where Wang Yue and Lu Geng were hiding.
Both were hiding in the canopy, feeling very tense. Wang Yue had a bag beside him filled with the corpses of several small Primordial Beasts, and though the bag was tightly sealed, it couldn’t entirely mask the faint scent of blood.
Suddenly, a drop of blood dripped from the bottom of the bag.
At the moment the blood dripped, Lu Geng swiftly and deftly extended his foot, catching the drop with the top of his foot. Otherwise, the drop would have fallen through the cracks between the branches and landed right on one of the creature’s heads.
Fan Hongjiao, observing everything with her Divine Sense, clenched her teeth, feeling a strong urge to whip Wang Yue to vent her frustration.
The three-headed creature lingered under the tree for a while, apparently detecting nothing, and then walked away with its graceful strides.
So horrifically ugly, yet walking so gracefully, it resembled an ugly creature walking a runway.
Watching the three-headed creature depart through her Divine Sense, Fan Hongjiao breathed a sigh of relief. By this time, her forehead was dotted with cold sweat.
Fan Hongjiao wiped the sweat off her forehead and said to Duan Rong, "That thing is called a Three-headed Green Boar. Its venom is potent, capable of eroding Primordial Qi. Even a Martial Artist of the Qi Vortex Realm would find it troublesome if bitten, while a Martial Artist of the Primordial Qi Realm would die instantly upon contact!"
"Die instantly upon contact?" Duan Rong heard this, eyes wide with shock, feeling a pang of fear as he realized he had just brushed past the Ghost Gate.
Seeing Duan Rong’s startled expression, Fan Hongjiao continued, "This venomous creature is nurtured in the complex environment of the Dark Forest, with its dense Primordial Qi and chaotic Laws, making it far more terrifying than the creatures of the Mortal World!"
Duan Rong peered through the branches at the spot where the Three-headed Green Boar had drunk, the black froth already dispersed by the flowing stream.
After the Three-headed Green Boar left, Fan Hongjiao pulled Duan Rong along as they swiftly leaped into the branches of another large tree. The previous tree’s branches had partly withered, no longer providing a safe haven.
Just as the two landed in the canopy, Duan Rong was about to speak when Fan Hongjiao suddenly clamped a hand over his mouth, whispering, "It’s here!"
Duan Rong didn’t know what ’it’ Fan Hongjiao referred to, but he sensed not fear or tension, but excitement in her eyes and voice.
It seemed the prey they were waiting for had arrived. Fan Hongjiao must have seen something through Divine Sense to react this way.
Indeed, Duan Rong saw through the branches a massive shadow approaching the stream.
It turned out to be a giant lizard, dwarfing the young Arrow Boar Wang Yue had just slain with a single claw.
The giant lizard crawled to the stream, dipped its head, and drank heartily.
Duan Rong was astonished to discover that the lizard had a vertical cyan eye on its back, which rolled about observing its surroundings while it drank, giving an indescribable eerie horror.
Cyan-eyed Giant Lizard?!
Though the giant lizard’s size and the bizarre eye on its back filled Duan Rong with dread, Fan Hongjiao was obviously thrilled, not tense like she was when facing the Three-headed Green Boar.
"Let’s go!"
Fan Hongjiao suddenly yelled and seized Duan Rong, leaping out.
As Fan Hongjiao pulled Duan Rong out of the canopy, he saw Wu Shidao, Wang Yue, and Lu Geng all leap out simultaneously.
Several shadows flashed horizontally, forming a triangle around the Cyan-eyed Giant Lizard as it drank by the stream.
Wu Shidao held an Iron Ruler, forming one flank.
Wang Yue and Lu Geng, each wielding weapons, guarded another flank.
Fan Hongjiao, with Duan Rong, defended another flank.
Upon landing, Fan Hongjiao pulled Duan Rong behind her. Through her shoulder, Duan Rong could see the Cyan-eyed Giant Lizard by the stream, appearing panicked.
Fan Hongjiao could barely hide the joy in her eyes.
This Cyan-eyed Giant Lizard was huge, with rich, succulent flesh, and though it was strong, its clumsy movements were no match for Fan Hongjiao and Wu Shidao, both strong Qi Vortex Realm Martial Artists.
But just then, splashes of water erupted from the stream, and a shadow leaped out!
The sudden event startled everyone!
At the moment the shadow emerged, Wu Shidao, by the stream, grimaced, shouting in alarm, "Two-legged Frenzied Python?!"
Hearing Wu Shidao’s shout and seeing the slight tremor in Fan Hongjiao’s back in front of him, Duan Rong swiftly retreated without a second thought.
The creature that suddenly leaped from the stream was evidently extremely dangerous.
