I Can Devour Spirits
Chapter 667 - 416: The Mountain Forest Remains Unchanged (Part 2)
Why does Wu Shidao cling onto me like a plaster, refusing to let go?
And how did he know as soon as I came back, and moreover, he seems to know I’ve just chosen my weapon?
Duan Rong thought to himself, but suddenly his eyes narrowed. He recalled his servant glancing at the blade on his table as he left the doorway.
So it was him!
It seems there really are quite a few spies on Yunfu Peak!
However, Duan Rong was truly puzzled. Why was Wu Shidao so concerned about his matters?
Actually, it wasn’t entirely Wu Shidao’s fault. This was part of Zhu He’s routine duties assigned to Wu Shidao, to promptly report all matters on Yunfu Peak, including the cultivation progress of the disciples and the closeness of their relationships, to Zhu He.
This was no longer a secret.
Fan Hongjiao and Lu Geng both knew and were used to it. But Duan Rong had just arrived at Yunfu Peak and was unaware of this, which is why he was quite repulsed by Wu Shidao’s eagerness to pry into his private matters.
After finishing his meal, Duan Rong stood up once again, pulled the rope behind the door, and then sat in front of the table, picking his teeth with a toothpick.
Before long, that servant appeared at the doorway again.
As soon as the servant reached the door, he was taken aback. Usually, when he came to collect the dishes, Duan Rong would already be lying on the bed behind the screen, but today Duan Rong was sitting there picking his teeth.
"My lord!" the servant respectfully called out from the doorway.
Duan Rong didn’t even lift his eyelids and said, "Collect the dishes."
The servant replied affirmatively and then stepped inside to tidy up the table.
Duan Rong suddenly asked, "Why is it always you? Is it fixed which room you serve?"
The servant said, "That isn’t the case. It just happens to be, and it’s my luck as well, showing that there’s a connection between us."
Duan Rong snorted lightly through his nose, and suddenly, with a flash of his hand, the Frost Patterned Phosphor Crystal Saber on the table was already in his grasp. The beast hide fluttered down as the snowy blade sliced across the servant’s throat.
The servant only felt a cold sensation at his throat as the dishes he was holding tumbled onto the table.
In that moment, he thought he was dead.
A line of blood appeared at his throat, with several drops sliding down the line, leaving a few fine, shallow blood marks.
The servant, terrified, touched his neck and only after a long while did he realize he wasn’t dead. By this time, his trousers were already soaking wet.
Duan Rong suddenly leaned forward, and their faces closed in instantly, just an inch apart.
Looking at Duan Rong’s face, so close, the servant felt a powerful pressure making his heart pound wildly. His face, originally pale, turned a liver-like color.
"Even if I kill you, it won’t cause any trouble!"
Duan Rong was Zhu He’s disciple, and in the entire sect, an Elder’s disciple was already a direct disciple.
Killing a serving servant, the Judgment and Rectification Department might just ask a question, and Duan Rong could easily brush it off with any excuse. No one would go against a sect’s direct disciple for the sake of a servant.
"This slash is just a warning! You know exactly what I’m talking about! I hope there’s no next time, because you won’t get a second chance!"
Duan Rong spoke lightly and slowly. But the servant couldn’t stop himself from trembling, and he knocked a bowl off the table, but his body no longer obeyed him.
Duan Rong reached out swiftly, caught the bowl, placed it back on the table, and said, "Clean up the dishes and get out."
The servant wanted to acknowledge, but he was so flustered that he couldn’t utter a word for quite some time.
Duan Rong holding the Frost Patterned Phosphor Crystal Saber, bypassed the screen, and lay down on the bed to sleep.
He had devoured dozens of Artifact Spirits and was still digesting them in the Sea of Consciousness, so he had to sleep!
If he didn’t sleep, Duan Rong estimated it would take two or three days to fully digest these dozens of Artifact Spirits.
The servant took a long time to recover, fear in his eyes as he glanced at the screen, then collected the dishes and ran out of the room.
Duan Rong snored loudly on the bed, while in another pavilion on Yunfu Peak, Wu Shidao was at the Document Library of the Internal History Department, flipping through materials.
The various materials in this Document Library were categorized, and Wu Shidao was long familiar with all of them. Normally, if Zhu He needed to find some materials, he would let him search.
Wu Shidao was currently looking through the detailed records of hundreds of weapons within a stone chamber on Gu Mountain.
His gaze was focused and bright as he flipped through the pages of the bound booklet with a rustling sound.
Suddenly, he stopped on a page, where at the top was drawn the blade and the name beside it was the Frost Patterned Phosphor Crystal Saber.
And under that weapon was a whole page full of tiny introduction texts.
Wu Shidao read carefully.
After reading the introduction, Wu Shidao was still quite shocked.
The original owner of the Frost Patterned Phosphor Crystal Saber was Gu Daoling.
This Gu Daoling was Zhu He’s junior brother, and by seniority, he called him Shishu.
However, having followed Zhu He all these years, he hadn’t even seen this Shishu once. But he knew very well the weight this junior brother held in Zhu He’s heart.
Every time Zhu He mentioned this junior brother, a faint smile would appear on his face.
Wu Shidao lingered on that booklet page for a long time, speculating whether Duan Rong deliberately chose Gu Daoling’s Frost Patterned Phosphor Crystal Saber, or if it was merely a coincidence?
