I Can Devour Monsters' SSS Talents
Chapter 622: No Way Out
In one section, official mages and researchers were examining the surface of the wall.
A group of guards had also been stationed around the area to prevent people from gathering in an uncontrolled manner.
As Lian walked past them, he heard parts of their scattered conversations.
"The permits aren’t reacting at all."
"Is the connection to the outside still down?"
"Yeah, only the channels within the area are working."
"Then do the people outside know what’s happening?"
"We don’t know, we still haven’t received any replies."
He thought about the last sentence for a moment.
If the external communications were down, the officials outside the curtain might still not have accurate information about the situation inside.
Of course, it was possible that the change in the wall’s appearance could also be seen from the outside, but whether the people outside knew about the sun’s awakening or Amélie’s death was another matter.
Rindo walked toward one of the officials at the entrance.
The man appeared to be the same person who had checked the Chosen’s entry permits that morning.
"Has the exit situation been confirmed?"
"None of the passageways are working for now, and leaving is impossible." The official raised his head.
"Since when?" Rindo asked.
"Almost at the same time the sun changed. At first, the flow of the curtain slowed down, then its structure became compressed, and all the passageways closed."
The man looked clearly exhausted, but he was still trying to speak calmly.
"Everyone has tried to leave, but it doesn’t work at all."
"I’ll try." Lian looked at the wall.
The official hesitated for a moment before nodding.
"Just please don’t use any offensive skills without coordination. We still don’t know how this structure will react."
"There is no need to attack it."
He then walked toward the wall, and from up close, its golden surface looked even stranger, not a single wave moved across it.
There were no gaps between the strands of light, and unlike that morning, he could no longer feel the gentle flow of Mana across its surface.
Lian reached out with his right hand, and his fingers touched a hard barrier, so he applied more pressure for a moment.
However, the wall’s surface did not change even slightly, and the feeling of touching it was more like touching very smooth stone than energy.
He pulled his hand back.
Then he activated True Sequence.
The flows and structure of the thing in front of him became visible, and he almost immediately realized that the wall’s structure was far more complex than he had imagined.
Multiple layers of energy were stacked on top of one another, some extending upward, while others went deep into the structure to an unknown depth.
Some were also so dense that it was difficult to identify their flows.
He tried to follow one of the paths.
However, after a few moments, he realized that the farther he went into the structure, the more new paths appeared in front of him.
What an incredible structure.
He did not know who had created this wall.
But just by observing a small part of it, he could understand that breaking such a structure with a punch or an offensive skill was almost meaningless.
Even if he managed to destroy one layer, he had no idea how many more layers existed behind it, and more importantly, he still did not know what would happen if he damaged the wall.
Lian deactivated the skill, but he did not immediately step back, and two different kinds of energy, both black, formed around two of his fingers.
Eclipse Energy.
End Energy.
His fingers touched the wall, and for a moment, it seemed that the structures on its surface had begun to break apart.
However, it took only a few seconds for the layers behind them to literally devour his two demonic energies.
’Well, this is new.’ Even he was surprised for a moment, as he had not expected something to be able to destroy the power of two Demons so easily.
He moved away from the surface and looked up, as flying over the wall did not seem like a reliable solution either.
The structure’s actual height was unknown, and its upper part disappeared beyond the clouds.
Even the Wings of God, despite their extremely high flight speed, could not guarantee that he would be able to bypass such a barrier from above.
On the other hand, there was no sign that the wall ended at a certain height.
Something that could destroy the power of two Demons so easily certainly could not be bypassed simply by flying over it.
So leaving through this route is impossible for now.
He turned back toward Rindo.
"Its structure has completely changed, I can’t even determine the actual depth of its layers."
"Can we break it?" Rindo looked at the wall.
Lian shrugged slightly.
"With enough power, anything is possible, but for now, we don’t know how much power it would take, or what would happen if we damaged it."
Rindo nodded, as he found this answer reasonable.
Neither of them wanted to attack a structure that surrounded the entire land without understanding it well enough.
The young Vorhelm looked at the people around them for a moment.
"Well, it seems we have no way out for now."
Rindo stared at the height of the wall.
"And we don’t know how long that will last."
At that moment, a familiar voice came from behind them.
"Lian! Rindo!"
Both of them turned around. ℴ
Noah Laurent was walking toward them through the crowd.
His long, folded umbrella was in his right hand, and unlike his usual behavior, he did not have a very bright smile on his face.
When he came closer, he let out a short breath.
"I finally found you two."
His gaze moved between them.
"Ever since that thing appeared in the sky, I’ve been trying to figure out where you were."
"We were near the southern springs." Lian nodded.
"Oh? So Amélie was with you? As far as I know, she went that way too." Noah paused for a moment before asking.
Rindo looked at him.
"Yes."
The young Frenchman looked behind them for a moment, as if expecting the girl to appear from the crowd.
"Ever since that sun suddenly changed, I’ve been trying to contact her, but I haven’t heard anything."
When he turned his gaze back to the two of them, he noticed their silence, and his faint smile disappeared.
"What happened?"
Rindo looked at him for a few seconds before answering in a calm but completely direct tone.
"Amélie is dead."
Noah froze, and for a moment, he did not even seem to understand the meaning of the sentence.
Then his eyebrows drew together slightly.
"What?"
"The thing that awakened in the sky identified Amélie. It made several accusations and then carried out her death sentence." Rindo continued.
The young Frenchman turned his gaze toward Lian.
"Is that... real?"
"We saw it ourselves." Lian nodded.
Silence fell for a few seconds, Noah shifted his fingers around the handle of his umbrella before slowly asking.
"How?"
The young Vorhelm looked at the sun’s black pupil for a moment.
"An energy structure connected to her body and soul, and after the sentence was announced, that same structure destroyed her existence. No body remained, not even a trace that we could recover." ⅇ
The young Frenchman’s gaze slowly lowered, he stared at the ground for a few moments before gripping the handle of his umbrella more tightly.
"I talked to her this morning."
His voice had become much quieter than before.
"Before we chose our routes, she asked me if I would like to see a sample if she found a good medicinal plant."
A very small smile appeared on his face, but rather than showing happiness, it looked more like he was remembering an ordinary moment.
"I told her I probably didn’t know much about plants, but she said it didn’t matter, she would explain everything herself."
Noah looked at the golden wall for a moment.
"She even wanted to make medicine from some of the samples after we returned."
"She spent the entire day doing exactly that." Lian kept his gaze on him.
"Really?"
"Yeah, she even found several resources whose value we probably wouldn’t have noticed without her." The young Vorhelm paused for a moment before continuing.
"For someone I’d only just met, she knew far more about plants than I expected."
"Yeah... that sounds exactly like her." Noah let out a slow breath.
Silence fell for a few seconds.
The sound of officials talking and equipment clashing could be heard around them, but none of the three paid any attention to it.
"Can I ask you something?" The young Frenchman finally raised his head.
"Ask." Lian replied.
The Frenchman hesitated for a few moments before speaking in a low voice.
"When it happened, was there no way to stop it?"
His question was neither hostile nor did it sound like an accusation, he seemed to genuinely want to know what could be done against such a danger.
Lian also let out a sigh.
"We tried, much harder than you might think, we used everything we had, Rindo tried to cut the energy path, while I examined the structure of the sentence and managed to disrupt part of its connection for a moment."
He had also used the Wings of God and even Eclipse Energy, he had made use of everything at his disposal, but it had still been useless.
The sentence had been carried out in the end.
And when the sentence was carried out and he experienced a small part of the power of the Hollow Sun, he understood that with their current power, they had no chance against that entity.
"So you managed to affect it?" Noah raised his gaze.
"A small part of it, yeah, but the main flow was being supplied from somewhere beyond our reach, the sentence was carried out before I could fully examine its path."
The young Frenchman thought about this explanation for a few seconds before asking.
"So if someone else is chosen, we still don’t know how to stop it?" They had all heard the sun’s final words.
And now that he understood how powerful the sun was, he could not stop himself from worrying.
"Not for now." Rindo answered.
This time, Noah said nothing, and his gaze moved toward the sun, whose black pupil was still at the center of the golden ring.
However, what interested Lian was the change in the young Frenchman’s behavior, he was no longer trying to lighten the mood with a smile or a pleasant remark.
Instead, he seemed to be putting together the information he had heard.
He said nothing for a few seconds before quietly murmuring.
"So tomorrow, at this same time..."
He left the sentence unfinished, as there was no need to continue, all three of them knew what he meant.
"Well, at least we know one thing." After a while, Noah looked at Lian again.
"What?" Lian raised an eyebrow.
