Chapter 504: Chapter 308: The Final Arrival of Yuwen’s Calculation
Although Yu Fei couldn’t fly, he used his Sword Qi as beacons, allowing him to teleport much faster than a Grandmaster.
This time, he learned his lesson and teleported with all his might to intercept the forces ahead. Even after catching up to their rear, Yu Fei didn’t attack. Instead, he used his continuously projected Sword Qi to slip past the Yuan Demons, ignoring their slow attacks.
Like a phantom of light and shadow, he constantly appeared in their blind spots, bypassing one rearguard unit after another.
Led by an 8th-order Yuan Demon, this interception force was much stronger than the last. From what he had sensed earlier, there were more than thirty 7th-order Yuan Demons.
Yu Fei could teleport as fast as he could project his Sword Qi—a speed far beyond that of the 7th-order Yuan Demons.
Before long, he had bypassed the largest company of Spider Demons and was in hot pursuit of the five 7th-order Yuan Demons fleeing up ahead.
A moment later, the Yuan Demons realized they couldn’t escape. In their desperation, they turned back to launch suicidal attacks against Yu Fei.
They forsook all defense. The five figures arranged themselves in a formation—three in front and two behind, spread out vertically—and attacked simultaneously, their attacks covering the entire breadth of Matie Road.
The power system of the Yuan Demon Royal Family was not entirely the same as that of humans. The saber Gang and sword glints they manifested, along with their peculiar Sound Wave Patterns, produced effects very similar to those from human Martial Artists’ Cultivation Techniques, but they lacked domain abilities.
Judging by their physical traits, they more closely resembled the Dharma Idol Grandmasters of humanity’s past.
They possessed extremely strong regenerative, offensive, and defensive capabilities.
They were like a group of Dharma Idol Grandmasters who had cultivated a lesser form of a Dharma Body, which made their head-on combat prowess even greater than that of human Martial Artists.
In large-scale confrontations, however, they were no match for the overlapping domains of human Grandmasters.
In a one-on-one fight, a Dharma Idol Grandmaster was stronger. But when the number of combatants surpassed a certain threshold, the power of Dharma Idol Grandmasters was merely additive, whereas the strength of domain-wielding Grandmasters multiplied by a certain factor.
If their respective domains were compatible, this factor would be amplified many times over, like a lever.
Thus, while the combined attack of these five Yuan Demons seemed immense, they actually lacked any real coordination.
Aided by his sensory abilities, Yu Fei had long since detected their intentions.
He did not evade the battle. Instead, he continuously poured boundless Sword Qi into his sword, Zhanming. Facing their immense, world-enveloping attack, he brought his sword down in a single slash from above, as if tearing the very heavens asunder.
These 7th-order Yuan Demons were far weaker in every aspect than an 8th-order one; they weren’t qualified to make Yu Fei retreat.
This sword strike, which held the might of a Grandmaster, descended with unstoppable force. The first two 7th-order Yuan Demons to bear the brunt of the attack were pulverized into dust, their fragments dissipating into mist.
In an instant, Yu Fei closed in on the remaining three. Zhanming swept through the air, effortlessly reaping their lives.
He then scanned his surroundings carefully. After confirming no one had escaped, he turned back, intending to encircle and annihilate this mob of Yuan Demons with the members of the Yulin Army.
After Yu Fei’s departure, Feng Hua was already leading the others against the remnants of the Yuan Demon forces.
This time, however, they were able to gain the upper hand.
This was mainly because there were no zither-wielders among the attacking 7th-order Yuan Demons this time. Without their strange crowd control and healing abilities, Feng Hua could act as a mobile skirmisher, Qingshan could serve as the main tank, and the rest could provide support.
In a short period, they successfully slew four Yuan Demons.
Against the Gang Qi Martial Artists of the Celestial Pride Class, the Yuan Demons’ advantage wasn’t so pronounced. In a head-on clash, most of the fourth-year students could at least hold their own, even if they couldn’t secure a kill.
Under Yu Fei’s leadership, they had built up momentum. The lingering apprehension in their hearts dissipated with every step forward, and their attacks grew several degrees sharper.
Meanwhile, Yu Fei charged in from the rear, once again wielding his Sword Qi that shone like a river of stars. He swept through the hideous Spider Demons—enemies he once had to face with caution, but could now kill without the slightest effort.
Like a river of stars pouring down from the heavens, the Spider Demons on Matie Road vanished in droves. Even the pungent green mist they left behind after death was scoured away by the Sword Qi and gales of Gang Qi, leaving not a trace behind.
Caught in a pincer attack, the remaining Yuan Demon forces were rapidly wiped out.
Perhaps sensing there was no escape, the remaining 7th-order Yuan Demons led the Spider Demons in a suicidal charge. They abandoned all defense, intent only on taking Feng Hua and the others down with them.
In response, Feng Hua and the others changed their tactics, holding the line firmly and switching to a purely defensive strategy, refusing to advance rashly.
Given their strength, the Yuan Demons’ counterattack was completely ineffective as long as they held their ground. The narrow terrain of Matie Road had restricted the Celestial Pride Class’s offense, but it now restricted the Yuan Demons as well. Its "easy to defend, hard to attack" nature applied to both sides.
Yu Fei noticed this as well through the mental network, and his movements quickened.
Before long, he had successfully carved a path from one end to the other, slaying the dozen or so remaining 7th-order Yuan Demons one by one.
The red, vaporous Qi dissipated, and all manner of armor and weapons clattered to the ground. The gear left behind by the Yuan Demons was a valuable resource. After being remelted and processed, it could be forged into low-to-mid-tier standard-issue weaponry or given to Tianwen University for basic materials research.
In truth, after so many years, Tianwen’s research into the material sciences of the Borderlands had all but stagnated. Without exception, these spoils of war possessed some form of uncrackable protective technology, meaning they could only be melted down for their base materials.
After the victorious rendezvous, Qingshan and the others were visibly excited. They had now completely broken free from the shadow of Yu Wen Baji’s influence. If they fought their way out of Matie Road now, they were certain to become a force that could impact the main battlefield.
