Chapter 496: Chapter 304: Bizarre Shackles, Yuwen’s Ability

"Yuwen, are you really not going to give them this chance? If we have them guard Matie Road, this group will miss their opportunity for revenge. It’s bound to throw their state of mind into turmoil.

Denying someone their path is a life-or-death grudge!"

Wang Kai cautioned.

Ever since Yu Wen Baji ascended to the rank of Grandmaster and slew a member of the Tier Eight Primordial Demon Royal Race, he had grown increasingly ruthless. It was a name Wang Kai would never dare to use again: Xiaoji.

Yu Wen Baji stuck his hands in his pockets, the cigarette dangling from his lips igniting on its own.

"What the hell are you afraid of? None of those rookies can put up a fight. Feng Hua is the only one who’s even remotely interesting. Me? Afraid of their revenge? Do they think they’re worthy? Even with a lifetime to train, they’d never be my match. I’m doing it my way, so what can they do to me? Heh, if they don’t like it, they can just stay in their corner and stew!"

Wang Kai was still hesitant. "But what if the academy..."

The mere mention of the academy set Yu Wen Baji off, and he smacked Wang Kai on the back of the head.

The motion wasn’t fast, but his raised palm seemed to carry an unseen force. Wang Kai could only watch, horrified, as it descended upon his head, completely unable to resist.

Even though Wang Kai was a Grandmaster himself, and a graduate of the Celestial Pride Class, he couldn’t even dodge Yu Wen Baji’s casual blow. If that palm had been the Greedy Wolf Straight Blade, his head would have hit the ground in an instant.

Yu Wen Baji, however, paid no mind to Wang Kai’s reaction, cursing aloud, "For fuck’s sake, you’ve already fucking graduated and you’re still scared of the academy? Still scared of the teachers? What a wuss!

I’m doing things by the book, who dares stop me! Besides, it’s not like I don’t have powerful people backing me. You know what? That Jee Yang fellow has already caved. After this is over, I’ll be the Vice-Commander of the Celestial Tiger Corps. And once I advance to Grandmaster, Jee Yang will step down, and the Celestial Tiger Corps will be the Brotherhood’s."

"This corps has a shitty name, too. It’s gotta be changed later. We’ll call it the Blood Tiger Corps!"

Wang Kai said nothing. ’Blood Tiger doesn’t necessarily sound any better than Celestial Tiger,’ he thought. ’It’s about on the same level as our Brotherhood’s name.’

"We head to war the day after tomorrow. What’s the headcount look like?"

"Over a hundred independent squads have arrived as reinforcements. Our front line can hold against a charge from the Spider Demons. We’re just a little short on Grandmasters. As of now, we only have a little over three hundred. But we still have two days. Counting the reinforcements from the Celestial Phenomenon Corps, we should have the fighting strength of 500 Grandmasters by then!"

Yu Wen Baji exhaled a perfect ring of smoke that held its shape, a smirk playing on his lips.

"That’s enough!"

Wang Kai, however, still looked worried. "The Primordial Demons have bolstered their ranks significantly of late. They have nearly a thousand Tier Sevens, and over a dozen Tier Eight Primordial Demons. Without the help of those five Celestial Pride Classes, won’t our forces be a little lacking?"

To his surprise, Yu Wen Baji just flashed a grin of absolute confidence.

"Do you think I’m an idiot? If I wasn’t sure I could win, would I be the one initiating this attack?"

"This contingent of Primordial Demons only gathered because of unprecedented tremors in the Thousand Ridge and Lianhe Mountain Ranges. That’s what forced them to group up and allowed them to overrun our main camp at Celestial Sword Gorge."

"And guess where our people who were originally in those two territories are?"

Wang Kai’s eyes lit up with understanding. "You mean...?"

"That’s right! It’s exactly what you’re thinking. Relax, this is a guaranteed win! Why else would I sideline Feng Hua and his crew? I might not think much of them, but even though his class is only at the Gang Qi Realm on average, they can still be used like Grandmasters—and fairly strong ones at that."

"On the Spider Demon battlefield, those three small teams of juniors are a blade of extreme Sharpness. When they work together, they don’t even fear the Tier Seven Primordial Demons lurking about. But since I’m guaranteed to win this battle, I have to put some pressure on them!"

"If I can pull Feng Hua and his people into the Brotherhood, we’ll be more than halfway to building the foundation for a super-corps!"

Wang Kai opened his mouth to speak, but then hesitated.

"But what if they still don’t want to join us after this battle is over? What if they just go to another front?"

Exasperated, Yu Wen Baji kicked him.

"Kai, how can you be so stupid? After all these years following me, you still don’t get it?"

"Get what?"

"Idiot. How many people in the Brotherhood do you think are actually following me out of genuine loyalty?"

Wang Kai met Yu Wen Baji’s expectant gaze—or rather, his expectant right eye, the only one visible. It always made Wang Kai a little uncomfortable. ’Those long, purple bangs practically serve as half a mask. No matter how many times I see it, I’ll never understand his sense of style.’ Unfortunately, power was everything, so he could only force himself to say:

"The brothers are all happy to be together. Everyone follows you sincerely..."

But Yu Wen Baji just scoffed. "Bullshit! That’s only because they can’t beat me. They have no choice but to work under me!"

"I know you probably think I’m full of shit, but I’m telling you, I am their inner demon. Until the day they defeat me, they can never escape my control!"

"If they choose to run away now, their martial will shall be forever flawed. They can forget about ever advancing to become a Martial Saint!"

Wang Kai grew even more confused. "So being forced to join us *doesn’t* affect their martial will?"

Yuwen was at a loss for words. But seeing as the guy had been with him for so long, he explained with what little patience he had left:

"What’s that saying again? ’Though my body is in darkness, my heart yearns for the light.’ All I want is to be the boss. Any brother who joins can challenge me anytime. I don’t play dirty; I guarantee a fair fight.

For every person forced into the Brotherhood, as long as they don’t give up on the idea of beating me, their martial will won’t falter. It might even grow stronger. But if they run... heh heh, a person like that cripples themselves!"

Wang Kai was speechless. ’What does he mean, "in darkness, but the heart yearns for the light?" That’s a terrible analogy.’

He felt like what Yu Wen Baji said made a twisted kind of sense, yet at the same time sounded like total bullshit. But Yuwen was his boss, and he chose to trust him.
