Chapter 486: Chapter 299: Sympathetic Detonation, Soul Capturing

BANG! WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH...

At a shift of his feet, Yu Fei’s figure flickered as he instantly escaped.

He felt the pressure.

The exiled mechanical bodies he’d cleared out before hadn’t been this numerous. Now, in this mechanical city built from ruins, their numbers exceeded five thousand, and a large portion of them were ranged units.

A dense barrage of Energy-Gathering Light Columns, combined with ranged sniper fire, meant Yu Fei didn’t dare stay in one place for a second.

The greatest threat to him was a Tier 7 mechanical unit armed with a sniper rifle. Its rate of fire was extremely fast, and its accuracy was frighteningly high.

When it came to ranged combat, human Martial Artists really couldn’t compare to these machines.

As for close combat, the techniques of these Tier 7 machines were inferior to even a Tier 7 Desolate Beast. They were no match at all for Zhanming, which had been upgraded to a Spirit Armament and inherited his Spatial Penetration Skill.

Yu Fei summoned a dense swarm of countless Sword Qi, instantly firing them into the distance. He didn’t deliberately control where they landed; the goal was to saturate the battlefield with his aura, allowing him to teleport anywhere at any time.

After his spatial talent was upgraded to Gold-rank, Yu Fei’s teleportation was no longer restricted by beacons. As long as his own aura was present, he could teleport to it.

However, without a beacon to sustain it, this aura faded quickly.

The barrage of countless Sword Qi eliminated a large number of the fastest-charging wave of spider-like melee machines. They had the lowest energy signatures, most being only Tier 5, and even without Yu Fei’s deliberate control, the Sword Qi was faster than their reflexes.

A good number of the floating turrets in the air were also destroyed. When these things were destroyed, they would chain-detonate, taking out many of the surrounding machines as well.

With just a single attack, Yu Fei had eliminated nearly ten percent of the machines.

The bonuses from his many abilities gave him the combat power of a one-man army.

This was extremely rare among martial techniques. Most Martial Artists pursued ultimate destructive power, excelling at single-target attacks. Area-of-effect damage had always been a weakness for them.

With the first wave of Sword Qi providing teleportation anchors, Yu Fei’s figure moved like a ghost, leaping about unpredictably. Dense swarms of countless Sword Qi bloomed like lotuses, slaughtering the machines in droves.

The tougher ones, those that managed to dodge the countless Sword Qi, were simply approached and annihilated by Zhanming.

Zhanming, now a Spirit Armament, perfectly inherited Yu Fei’s Spatial Penetration Skill. Within a hundred-meter radius, it created an absolute kill zone. No one could dodge the omnipresent blade; every defense has a blind spot.

During this process, Yu Fei noticed something strange. All the machines attacking him were beings without talents—they were just lifeless objects.

Meanwhile, the machines that possessed talent gems were still holding back and observing.

’This is strange,’ he thought, a theory forming in his mind. ’Perhaps these exiled machines without talent gems aren’t alive at all. Maybe they’re just lifeless things controlled by programs or some other method. Only the machines with talent gems are truly alive.’

’One piece of evidence is that when I kill a machine without a talent gem, the aura from my Invincible Divine Intent doesn’t change at all. But when I kill one *with* a talent gem, it slowly strengthens.’

’Once you have life, you have weaknesses. That’s probably why they’re hiding in the back.’

’Only true living beings have emotions, worry about their own survival, and weigh pros and cons.’

From what Yu Fei could see, very few of the machines actually had talents, and most of those were low-rank.

The one with the highest-ranked talent in this group was the Tier 8 machine. It had a purple gem on its head. Another Tier 7 machine also possessed a purple gem. At this moment, those two were secretly lurking at the edge of the battlefield, apparently observing him.

After a moment’s thought, he stopped unleashing his countless Sword Qi. Instead, he started fighting the machines head-on, rarely using his teleportation and feigning exhaustion.

Sure enough, the frequency of communication between the two lurking machines increased significantly.

’So damn cagey!’

The constant PING PING of artillery fire on the battlefield gradually subsided until it disappeared completely. He had eliminated almost all of the floating turrets.

Those things looked unassuming, but they were actually a huge threat. The beams they fired seemed to be Energy-Gathering Laser Pillars, which could be discharged from any point on their spherical shells. The beams struck with incredible speed, and the damage from multiple hits would even stack.

Even though Yu Fei never stopped moving, he was still hit several times.

Fortunately, his Red Lotus Battle Armor was of excellent quality, so he wasn’t injured.

This just went to show how troublesome they were. Even with his teleportation, a talent for predicting danger, a skill that multiplied his reaction speed twenty-fold, and his Divine Sense for detecting threats from all directions, he still couldn’t dodge everything.

The floating turrets’ attack patterns were impossible to guard against completely. They gave no warning, and their firing intervals were erratic.

If it weren’t for that talent’s damage prediction, Yu Fei would have had to tank most of the Energy-Gathering Light Columns. Even then, the sheer number of floating turrets made it impossible to pinpoint the source of every attack, forcing him to constantly teleport around the battlefield.

If a Warrior from the Shenxiao Army had been here, injuries would have been unavoidable, which would have made clearing out these machines much more difficult.

He focused his countless Sword Qi on two Tier 7 melee machines, overwhelming and destroying them.

An ink-blue blade suddenly tore through the air. With a flash of the sword, a rust-spotted mechanical hand was severed. Before it even hit the ground, it erupted in a shower of sparks, emitting the smell of burnt wiring.
