Chapter 474: Chapter 293: Virtual Combat?
Seeing that Yu Fei didn’t reply, Ren Feng changed the subject and asked him the purpose of his visit.
This wasn’t something that couldn’t be said.
"I’m under orders to head to the Tiangong Ruins and train with the Shenxiao Corps for a while."
He had discussed it with Ye Shuping, and as it happened, he was quite curious about this unknown junction domain, so he’d decided to tag along with the Shenxiao Corps to broaden his horizons.
With his current combat strength, he wouldn’t be slowing them down.
"The Shenxiao Corps? Isn’t that a Grade-A corps? I remember the Tiangong Ruins having a lot of out-of-control entities. They must be the ones doing the cleanup work.
However, the environment there is extremely harsh. If you go exploring, you must be well-protected. The residual radiation and various exotic particles in the Tiangong Ruins are harmful to the body. Only a very small number of individuals with Dharma Bodies can avoid the effects."
Yu Fei was aware of this, and it was one of the reasons he was looking for Ren Feng.
He could buy a suitable protective suit himself, but using Ren Feng’s connections—a man on the inside—would be more reliable.
"Do you have any good channels you can recommend? Or better yet, can I just procure one through you?"
Ren Feng suddenly grinned, and a shiver went down Yu Fei’s spine. He felt like he was being sized up.
"Come on, we’re brothers! A mere protective suit is nothing. I’ll give you the very best one, on me."
Yu Fei paused. ’This guy is definitely scheming something, but I don’t sense any ill will from him.’
"Really? That would be amazing, thank you!"
"Ah!"
Ren Feng waved his hand dismissively. "Don’t mention it. But honestly, I’d recommend you don’t use a protective suit. That thing gets damaged easily in a fight and can’t be repaired. One wrong move and you’ll be exposed to the environment. While it might not be a problem right away, it’s ultimately bad for your body."
Yu Fei’s brow furrowed.
"From the sound of it, you have a better alternative to recommend?"
Ren Feng thumped his chest. "Of course. I’d suggest you get a suit of meta-energy armor. The protection is excellent, its defensive power is dozens of times greater than a protective suit, and it allows us to fight without holding back."
"More importantly, this thing can fly. A three-hour charge of its meta-energy gives you about fifteen minutes of flight time at supersonic speeds—faster than the average Grandmaster!
In complex terrain, it’s a god-tier tool for both chasing targets and escaping. For us Martial Artists who aren’t Grandmasters yet, its practical value is maxed out.
These meta-energy armors are still lab prototypes, not available for public sale, but your brother here can hook you up with a set!"
Listening to Ren Feng’s pitch, Yu Fei figured out what the guy was up to. He was clearly looking to make a profit.
"Alright, but I’ll need two sets!"
As soon as the words were out, Ren Feng’s eyes lit up. He was desperately short on cash.
Even though his father was a Martial Saint, the man was still very strict with him. He had always provided Ren Feng with cultivation resources, but his father wanted him to be self-sufficient. This was especially true since Ren Feng was pursuing research, and his various experiments burned through money at an alarming rate.
At this thought, Ren Feng’s tone became sincere. "Brother Yu Fei, two sets are no problem at all. I’ll have my professor use the best materials and configurations for you. It’s just... the manufacturing costs aren’t low, and I..."
Yu Fei clapped him on the shoulder. "You get me the best, and I’ll give you a 10% commission!"
Ren Feng was taken aback. Logically, for cultivators like them, faster progress meant more expenses. Yu Fei’s level of power must have cost a fortune, so how could he be so magnanimous?
"Bro, the commission is unnecessary. I have my own ways of benefiting when I ask my professor to do something. Taking a cut from you on top of that would be too much!"
Yu Fei waved his hand dismissively. "I came into a small fortune recently and don’t have any pressing needs right now. You’re doing me a favor, I can’t let you do it for free. It’s fine!"
"No needs?"
Ren Feng’s mind raced. ’Logically, the cultivation path before becoming a Grandmaster is the most expensive part. How could he have no needs?’ He couldn’t help but ask in astonishment:
"Don’t tell me you’re already preparing to break through to the Grandmaster realm!"
Only for Grandmasters did the usefulness of merit points diminish. At higher levels, it was mostly about bartering goods for goods.
"Not that fast!"
"You brat! Back in our year’s Celestial Pride Positioning Competition, you had the lowest realm. I never would have thought you’d be so far ahead of everyone today."
Ren Feng’s tone held a hint of jealousy, but he still advised:
"Let’s get you one set to try first. It’s a new product, after all, and it’s not cheap!" ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
But Yu Fei still insisted on two sets.
"They aren’t both for me. One of them should be a woman’s model. I’ll give you the measurements later."
A smirk played on Ren Feng’s lips as if he understood everything. "Ooh~"
Seeing Ren Feng’s lecherous expression, Tang DanDan couldn’t help but kick him from behind.
After a series of twists and turns through an underground railway, the group entered a laboratory. Ren Feng couldn’t wait to begin his introduction.
"Well, here we are. This is the new, upgraded Holographic Docking Pod. It can replicate 90% of a Martial Artist’s power data and uses the most advanced physics engine. The core of this bad boy is the spirit-soul interface system; it can basically replicate all of a Martial Artist’s various attributes and abilities."
"So, wanna give it a try?"
Yu Fei asked thoughtfully, "This thing doesn’t have a data backdoor, does it?"
Ren Feng nodded. "Of course it does. We’re in the testing phase right now and need to collect as much specific data from Martial Artists as possible. But don’t worry. Yours is a custom-built model, so you can choose to keep your data private. It won’t be uploaded!"
"Besides," Ren Feng added, "we’re in a phase of rapid power progression. This thing can only give a rough estimate at best."
Yu Fei had to agree. Besides, a Martial Artist could hardly avoid combat. The moment you made a move, your true strength would be revealed anyway. If you wanted to stay ahead of the pack, the only way was to keep getting stronger.
