Chapter 363: Chapter 237: The Security Bureau’s Predicament: Surprise Attack
The dinner party was a pleasant affair for all, and Song Cheng introduced him to each of the people responsible for security.
The team consisted of three Gang Qi Realm Martial Artists and nine Divine Realm Martial Artists, a group that included Taolang. There wasn’t a single Inner Qi Realm Martial Artist among them.
Yu Fei sized them up and discovered that the most talented person present was Taolang, who had orange-level talent. Two of the Gang Qi Martial Artists were purple, and the rest were blue.
’Looks like the Security Bureau really isn’t all that strong.’
Song Cheng explained that the Jingshan Province Security Bureau actually had more Gang Qi Martial Artists than this. It was just that work had been hectic recently, and these were the only ones they could transfer over on such short notice.
Yu Fei also met Mei Shasha. She was an ordinary person, currently holding a storage device and working on decrypting it. She had personally added a great deal of ciphertext to the contents, and the decryption method—which required a physical process—was something only she could remember. As a result, it would take some time.
Mei Shasha was also well aware that the sooner she produced the list, the sooner she would be out of danger. The moment that list was revealed, it would be the assassins in hiding who would need to figure out how to escape.
After the dinner party, Song Cheng didn’t bring up the specific mission reward, only saying that Yu Fei would surely be satisfied and not to worry about it.
Yu Fei didn’t press the issue. He no longer cared much about any so-called reward. The people of the Security Bureau were fighting on the front lines, ready to lay down their lives. Since he’d stumbled into this, he felt he had to help, no matter what.
For the next three days, everyone remained at the manor villa. During this time, thirteen more people arrived as reinforcements, including five Gang Qi Realm Martial Artists. With their defenses suddenly much stronger, everyone felt a great deal more at ease.
Mei Shasha was more than halfway through her decryption and looked to be on the verge of finishing. Just then, Taolang suddenly gave a warning. Their informant had sent word that assassins from the Night Owl Mansion were about to attack, and the message included details on the enemy’s numbers.
After reading the message, Taolang’s face went deathly pale.
"We... should prepare for a fight to the death!"
Song Cheng took the message, his expression grim. "Fifteen in the Gang Qi Realm, over forty in the Divine Realm, and... more than seventy in the Inner Qi Realm?"
"Heh... They’ve brought a fucking war party!"
As he said this, Song Cheng looked up toward the second-floor atrium with a complicated expression. That was where Mei Shasha was working on the decryption.
Song Cheng took a deep breath and said slowly, "Looks like we’ve really hooked a big one this time. The data Mei Shasha is decrypting must contain the true identity of a Grandmaster. I wonder which bastard is about to have their cover blown; that’s the only reason for such a massive show of force!"
"And for them to dare make such a brazen move within the country, they’re bound to leave a trail. There must be some power that controls the borderlands helping them evade detection. Damn it, a pack of villains!"
Song Cheng sighed heavily, then turned to Yu Fei.
"Yu Fei, you should leave now. The enemy has mobilized such a massive force... it might not be just one Grandmaster. If the worst happens, I can’t guarantee your safety."
Song Cheng’s face was grim as he said this.
"Mr. Song, what was the reward you originally planned to give me?"
Song Cheng was stunned. He thought Yu Fei wanted to collect his reward before leaving, and he felt a pang of disappointment. But on second thought, Yu Fei had saved Yang Meng’s life, and he wasn’t even a member of the Security Bureau. It was only right that he be paid before he left.
The others also looked displeased but said nothing. After all, Yu Fei wasn’t a member of the Security Bureau; it was only natural for him to leave at a time like this.
His throat dry, Song Cheng said:
"I was planning to give you a suit of armor. It’s from my personal collection, called the Heavy Mountain Armor. I don’t have it with me, though. So how about this: I’ll give you a set of keys and proof of ownership. You can go to my home to retrieve it now. The address is..."
Yu Fei cut him off. "I do like armor, and as it happens, my last suit was destroyed. So, we have a deal. After this battle, Mr. Song, you will give me that Heavy Mountain Armor."
Song Cheng asked in surprise, "You... you’re not going to get it now?"
"The job isn’t done, so how could I leave? Anyway, Mr. Song, we should be discussing tactics right now—how to wipe out this brazen pack of scoundrels!"
Song Cheng exclaimed in excitement, "Excellent!"
